Looking forward to hearing this new version :) Lots on the news about the recording yesterday and the row between Justin Hawkins and Bono - Apparently they have now settled with Bono's version of "Well, tonight thank God it's them instead of you" :)

Certainly a Christmas Number one that I will be buying, how about you??

Cant wait to hear it either!- I loved the original (not that I was around then mind you!) and its probably one of the most played christmas songs for me! and with the people involved it cant (in theory!) fail to be excellent.

I'm looking forward to hearing that too:Pinkbounc Will be in my shopping trolley:Pinkbounc

Michelle::yes::

I've still got the original 45" single - in it's wee original sleeve!!!

Looking forward to hearing it - and probably buying it!!:D

I've still got mine too Cath - somewhere  ! I think we only played it once!!

I can't believe that was 20 years ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm looking forward to hearing the new version - I'll still buy it whether I like it or not.

Always hated the song but totally agree with the cause,So Ill buy it
I love The Darkness but No way can Justin deliver that line better,It belongs to Bono!

Looking forward to hearing it.

Will certainly be buying it.

Heard this on the way to work on the Chris Moyles show.

I know this is for a good cause etc and people should buy it anyway BUT.....

I think the production of the record is very poor, you can tell that this has been rushed. . It sounds like they recorded it and pressed straight to CD without any work. I may get slated for this, but as i said above-buy it anyway

:chat:

I heard it this morning too, I was a bit disappointed as it didn't have that familiar intro, the new one has a piano start. I definately prefer the old one (yes I have the original single too) but I will of course buy it as it's for such a good cause.

I guess it will appeal to a whole new generation who will want Busted, Sugababes and more recent artists on it, to be honest it would be like someone else bringing out 'Merry Christmas Everybody', Slade is always gonna be the best (IMHO).

Anyway after a few Breezers, I'll be singing along to anything -LOL:drinking:

I heard it this morning on Chris Moyle's too :)

The first time he played it, I thought..."Oh No, why have they let Dizzee Rascal do that silly rap and ruin the song"

The second time I hear it, I thought...."Oh No, why have they let Dizzee Rascal do that silly rap and ruin the song"

Other than that I didn't think it was too bad :)

The original is still the best though! :teeth:

Alan.

Still haven't head it yet, but I think the video is on TOTP this week :)

I heard this today for the first time - can;t quite make my mind up on it. I like it (I think) up until the rap bit.......then the Feed The World bit at the end........no, I don't like that.....

I'll definitely buy it though!

Looking forward to getting Live Aid on DVD for Christmas!!!

:D

I heard and saw the video for the first time today :) I really enjoyed it!

I must admit to asking DH who some of the people were in the video LOL ;)

I heard it today too when they showed the video at six o clock (talk about blanket coverage! ) and yes the old intro was better, what WERE thaty thinking with the rap and I wish someone had told them when to stop the last note of the lline "Feed the Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooorld"
with the last word going on forever each time it was sung!

Edit: Ive realised what makes it sound like that now, theres lots of "let them know its christmastime's" 'missing' from the end compared to the original- my fault for not listening!

.............apart from that  the new version is quite good- and I suppose people would have moaned if they had just copied the original exactly.

:rockband:

Me and Martyn sat watching it lastnight it was on at 5:50 on most of the channels, we prefer the older version to be honest but I will buy the c.d it's for a very good cause, it shown very moving clips, and joss stone crying watching a video of them poor children.
It hit me, and I am definately going to donate this xmas!

I hate the rap part also, I didnt know who he was who was doing it LOL! but it does kinda ruin the tone of the song but I agree it will appeal to people in the young ages!

I must admit the rap made me laugh! I like the beginning - it is more soulful and sad, but I think it's a bit of a mish-mash from the rap onwards ......... however, I think the harrowing clips of the starving children is VERY moving and helps to drive home what this is all about.

I'll probably not play this one more than once either!
