I didn't see this posted here, but the info is from Andre's website:

The latest information regarding the Port Orleans Riverside room refurbishment project indicates that work will commence on 26 June 2011, starting with the Acadian House mansion building (building 80).

Also, the 512 rooms which will receive the new 'Royal' makeovers will definitely be located, as previously expected, in Oak Manor and Parterre Place (buildings 90 and 95) and work on those will commence in late January 2012.

Nothing has yet been confirmed regarding any specific start dates for work on the Alligator Bayou lodges, but the estimated completion time for the whole resort is still being quoted as April/May 2012.

I hope that you mean if someone really does have a medical issue to let Disney know. In order to get my handicap room close to my preference, I was told that I had to pay for the preferred rooms.

But seriously, please don't claim a medical need unless you really need it.

If I have totally misunderstood this post, please accept my apology.

The PP edited their post but yes they had a child who used a walker. Even if you don't need a handicapped accessible room they do seem to block out close rooms in each room category for folks with specific types of medical issues. On the same stay at Pop on our arrival night we booked standard and got the closest STD room but not the closest room A's those were preferred.

Yes I edited my post. My DD1 uses a walker when she walks and is getting braces fitted for her next week. She will be wearing them when we go. She can't walk more then 5 to 10 minutes without becoming really tired.

I'm getting very nervous with the new poly quiet pools depth changed to four feet or so. The six foot pool was the only thing I liked about the place. I talked to someone on phone who said magnolia bend pool was rehabbed last month. Has anyone been recently???? And are the alligator bayou pools still 6 feet. We love to go to deep pools after day at parks and if bayou pools are deeper I will try to switch from riverview to preferred. I am so excited but need real info. Will be soooooooooooo appreciative. And when I go I will answer any questions.

We've yet to see what they do at Riverside, but at POFQ they basically closed whole buildings at a time - with a few exceptions where a whole floor might have been opened up before the rest of the building was fully completed.

Andre

Thanks Andre for your reply. Guess I'll just hope to get a new room in Acadian then. Our first visit we were in Magnolia Terrace, and I loved the location! Last Jan we were in Parterre Place all the way at the end of the building. Any farther and we'd be in FQ

Glad I found your answer, I've been sick for a few days.

Has anyone heard what the new room design will be? I saw the FQ rooms in Jan. and they looked wonderful. Very upscale. Loved the new vanities and bathroom too. Not interested in the Princess rooms :sad2: Wonder why they took out the ceiling fans?

And are the alligator bayou pools still 6 feet.

I've heard no talk of changing this, and I don't think the pools have been closed for long enough for such major work to be done, so I think you're safe at the moment.

The three Alligator Bayou quiet pools are shallower at either end, and 6 ft in the central section. The two Magnolia Bend pools are shallow at one end and 5 ft at the other. None have zero-entry by the way.

Andre

Were in on POR - actually swapped a couple months back.

Thanks Andre for all your time and info - it has helped with everything! :thumbsup2

June 23 for 8 nights down on the Bayou.

So we have 5 in our family. My son is 13 and about as tall as I am. It's been six years since we've visited WDW. He won't fit on the trundle bed. Will they give us a a roll away?

Rollaways are first come, first served, so you may/may not get one.

I would suggest an air mattress with a small air pump. You can lean it up against the wall by the bed during the day.

i have a question... I hate to ask this but I read this and i was wondering... has anyone had problems or heard of problems with bed bugs at POR Riverside??? this is where we are thinking of staying next time. just wondering. I saw it on bedbugregistry.com

There have been no confirmed cases of bedbugs at POR, or any of the other resorts.

A lot of people posting on that website don't even know what bed bugs look like.

One person even posted that they returned from one of the resorts and posted on the bedbugregistry because she had what she thought were bug bites around her ankles.

Turned out what she had was heat rash; people get it quite often down there - it is a reflection off the pavement (often also referred to as golfer's rash) that cause irritation to the skin.

I would take anything I read on that website with a grain of salt.

I was kind of thinking that too. there were other posts on there regarding different disney hotels as well. It is a problem everywhere even in the best hotels. I was just wondering if anyone has encountered this first hand. still going anyway!! im sure if a situation arose, disney would handle it properly, no worries

We were able to get one bit were charged an extra $15 per night.

question about the boat from POR riverside to Downtown - can you get a wheelchair on the boat? my daughters wheelhchair does not fold in half. we were able to get it on the shuttle boat from FW campground to the comtemporary last time by taking it apart. does anyone have any pics of the boat entrance??? thanks!

The water taxi can accommodate a wheelchair.

I don't have a pic of the water taxi entrance; but it is a wide door that slides over and they put down a little ramp for the wheelchair to go inside from the dock.

I have had that rash before and it is quite painful. I have only gotten it when at WDW though. Now I am careful to sunscreen my legs and ankles. I think it must be all the sand used in the concrete which makes it particularly reflective.

I know for me I have gotten it, because I go the week after Thanksgiving. I have been wearing jeans at home by then and I wear capris when I get to FL. If I don't use the highest SPF sunblock, I get it for sure.....
