I think I've posted this before, but yes you can fit one (or even two at a push) half-gallon cartons of milk in the fridges. The resort shop does sell them - albeit for a lot more than WalMart!

I have a question... We have not stayed at Port Orleans since 2000! It was our very first trip and we stayed at what was then Dixie Landings. Our family has expanded since then by adding 2 more little ones. We are taking our 20th. trip this fall and thought it would be fun to stay here again! We have not even visited the resort since our first stay.

My question is... by the sinks is that a closet rack on the right. I want to bring some shelf holders to hang to put clothes and I need to know if that is a rack. I cannot tell very well from the pictures I have seen.

I was so glad to learn yesterday that the Electrical Parade has also been extended. We saw this the only time in 2000. It will be so neat if it stays around until November also.

I am having so much fun planning our 20th. trip and bringing back so many memories from that trip.

:)

Does anyone have a map or know which buildings at POR have roll in showers?

Also, are the rooms two doubles or a king or can you get either?

TIA

Roll-in show rooms are in various buildings, number 14 being the most common. They only have one King-size bed though, not two doubles.

There is a bar on the side next to the sinks where you can use clothes hangers. If you are talking about one of the shelf units you can hang from a closet pole, one should fit there.

We are planning to book a trip for April 2011. Does anyone know if there will be any construction going on then. We are bringing my parents and I want it to be perfect.

No-one really seems to know if there's going to be any construction next week, let alone in nine months time! :)

Safe to say there will probably be something happening somewhere in the resort, given the overall size of the place they are bound to be doing a spot of painting, some landscaping or other maintenance work somewhere. But don't worry too much, it's very unlikely to be anything that's going to spoil your vacation, just work to keep the place looking beautiful.

When I was looking at the new packages and pricing out our next vacation, I noticed that "preferred rooms" cost more.
Last time we stayed it was either "standard" or "waterview".
Does this mean if we want to stay in a closer building like #15, that we need to just choose (and pay for) "preferred" and we will get it? Do we still need to request? and I know requests are just that, a request. Can we choose "standard" and request a certain building with any chance of actually getting that building?
And what's the difference between "water view" and "river view"?

Thanks a lot!! I'd hate to get a room in the back 40. We used the food court and kiddie pool a lot last trip and without a rental car, it would have been quite the hike.

It looks like both POR and CSR has the new "preferred room" category. I'm assuming that it means the buildings closest to Riverside Mill (those ones people request all of the time) may now have an additional fee for a convenient location. "Water view" may mean facing one of the quiet pools. "River view" is facing the river.

I read today that part of POFQ may be getting Haunted Mansion themed rooms (similar to the Pirate rooms at CBR) and POR may be getting Royal themed rooms. Perhaps it's safe to assume that only 1 section at each resort will get the swanky rooms (with an additional fee, again similar to the Pirates rooms at CBR) and the rest of the rooms will get a regular rehab? Time will tell! I do hope that POR will be rehabbed before next summer.

Has anyone found out yet what buildings will be reverted to Preferred Location? I'm thinking about booking at POR for our next year trip.

Are you saying there is currently a charge for preferred location? Is there any info. on that anywhere? Thanks!

The rates are listed on the Disney website, when you search for a reservation.

The categories are now standard view, water view, river view, preferred location, and king bed.

When you pick each category, it gives a description. The preferred room states it is in close proximity to the registration building, dining, transportation and resort amentities. That leads me to believe it is close to the main building exclusively.

The water view, preferred location and king bed are the same upcharge. The river view is another additional upcharge.

Just got back from our first trip to POR and I have to say we were so happy with the stay.
Our past trips have all been to WL, so I was worried about going from a deluxe to a moderate, but the POR was BEAUTIFUL!

Such wonderful landscaping and pools. We loved the food court and gift shop. It was a relaxing and quiet place.
We were Alligator Bayou building 35. A little walk to the main pool and food court, but no more than 5 minutes.
We had a quiet pool and laundry building right next to us, which was great. We loved jumping in the quiet pool after a long HOT day at the parks.
Cannot wait to stay there again!!

I'm glad you ahd such a nice vacation!:goodvibes
I was originally thinking of requesting building 14 or something really close to the food court etc.. but I saw a picture of building 36 (AB) and I thought it might be nice to be out somewhere a little quieter. Now that you are saying the walk wasn't that bad I think I am coviced. I really don't mind a bit of a walk ( iwalk 3 miles a day for exercise now anyway).
Did you use the buses and if so how did you find those to be being on that end of the resort?:)

Subbing for updates.

So now, with the new preferred room charges... is that just for new booking into 2011? 'Cause we're booked there this fall (before any price changes were announced) and were planning on asking for one of the buildings that I'm assuming will be labeled as "preferred"... but I'd like to avoid extra charges if possible.

The categories are now standard view, water view, river view, preferred location, and king bed.

They seem to have removed King Bed as an option during these re-classifications, so the options at POR for next year are currently Standard, Water, Preferred or River. I assume the King Bed rooms will still be there on request, but not as a bookable option.

Has anyone found out yet what buildings will be reverted to Preferred Location? I'm thinking about booking at POR for our next year trip.

I spoke to a real nice CM today and he was not sure which bldg were preferred so he put me on hold to try to find out and came back and said they are not sure yet as it is so new(since Sunday). Guess we have to wait and see.I am very anxious to not be put way far a way but I hate to pay the extra so not sure what to do. Plus on the dates i want there is no preferred listed on the website, Jan 29-FEb 5 just standard and waterview.

Can anyone tell me if I rent an ECV from an offsite company will I be able to get into my room in AB. In the pictures it looks like there is a step up. I asked the CM and he said I could request a handicap room but I don't need the roll in shower and we have to have 2 beds so will this work out? I really like the feel of AB better than the mansions and could get a first floor room

Im sure this has already been asked but there are so many pages to read back through I thought *maybe* someone would be willing to answer :)

We'll be at POR Sept 12-17th. Is it too late to request a room bc our trip is already booked and paid for? Also, I could go ahead and try requesting a room but where?! We have 4 children, 9/6/2/1 yrs, and will have a stroller at all times. We'll also be haeding back daily for naps and a break for the big kids. Ideally being close to a bus stop would be awesome. I dont really plan on eating at the resort but instead plan on having small snack type things for breakfast or lunch, whichever meal we dont eat at the park. So, I'm not too worried about being close to the food court.

Really bus stop location would be my biggest concern.

Thoughts? Advice?
thanks!
