I don't think it would fit. If it would it would be awful tight. We put ours the opposite direction at the end of the beds.

Are you able to move the beds at POR AB? We moved them a bit at CBR (wanted it against the wall so my ds2 wouldn't fall out) and that made for a more open feel, and we even left the twin air matress on the ground all the time.

You might be able to move the beds in AB a little, but not in the mansion buildings as there are wooden bases underneath.

I am so excited! We check in tomorrow. I wasn't thinking of making a request on the room, but we are going to get in late. (like 11pm) Should I consider calling ahead?

I would DEFINATELY call ahead with any requests, don't leave it up to check in, esp. if you aren't checking in until 11pm!!!
We learned the hard way about this when we checked into the POLY last Aug. and got there about 9:30pm, and we obviously were given what was left for a room (and this was in the concierge building) - the concierge told us they are assigned in a per check in manner -- meaning we got there too late. LOL We ended up moving rooms the next day,, but i would definately call with any requests -- it won't hurt!

Quick question -- do the trundle beds in AB come up off the floor at all? Or is it like a glorified mattress on the floor??

It's a typical trundle, it sits in a frame on rollers, under the bed. It rolls out and does not raise up.

ahhh.. thanks. I saw a pic, and it didn't look too high up -- i am use to the nice daybeds at the deluxe hotels, so this will be a bit of a change.. LOL

thanks so much, I will definitely call. I really just want to not be near the smoking section. With 5 of us, I assume we will be in AB room with a trundle..so not much wiggle room in the request there.

Thanks again!

We didn't try to move them, so I'm not sure. They are different than the beds at CBR though.

We always put the air mattress up on it's side during the day and slide it between the one bed and the bathroom wall.

Most likely, yes. The resort is pretty busy right now, but has quietened down a bit from the weekend. See the Eyes on Ears webcam running on the homepage of www.portorleans.org to see what the view is like right now.

Andrew Willy thanks for the ustream video over the past week :happytv: You have no idea how many time a day we would check in to take a look at what ever went by. Most people wore jackets and long pants, must have been cool.

I've never stayed a POP, but I did do a quick visit there. You'll appreciate the extra money you spent on POR. The two resorts are worlds apart.

I pay for the water view at POR mostly because I really did not want to be facing a Parking Lot. So for me it is worth it. If I was a POP it would be because I wanted to save money and I really wouldn't care about view. I got a free upgrade to waterview once at CSR and liked that a lot too. although, It occured to me that Disney's waterview has a very wide definition.

So Is It true that getting a water view might get you a view of the pool, that I would not consider it If we where getting a view of ther pool.

Moved my reservation from POP to POR. Going solo. Hope I made the right choice. From what I saw on Andre's site it was to good to pass up. Thanks Andre for one the most helpful sites I have ever visited. Ill be there Feb17-24th. Im sick of the cold and snow! Looking forward to it! :yay:

You're going to love POR! I have stayed at POP quite a few times and really enjoyed it but POR is awesome. I have stayed at CBR and CS and thought that POR was just lovely compared to the other two. And I didn't find anything wrong with the other moderates, POR just has something a little special.

Enjoy!

That's correct - although you can always request a River view rather than a pool view. We did last week and got exactly what we wanted, even down to the specific room number in fact (I faxed same example ranges of rooms that we'd like, and they gave us a lovely corner view overlooking the river and the carriage path). Did you see the webcam we broadcast of the view? There are some recordings of it on the ustream page.

I know this has been asked before but I cannot find it! :confused3

We are staying at POR in April. I put in a request for the building when I booked. When we called to make the final payment, I double checked and she said the building request is in the notes.

We may not be getting to the resort until after 9pm. If I do the online check-in, will that make a difference of what room we get? Will we get whatever is left-over? Do they assign rooms at the online check-in or just when you are physically checking in?
Does this make any sense?

I know it is just a request and nothing is guaranteed. However, I would like to make the odds in our favor if possible. :)
Is there anything else I should be doing?

I have the same question. Is online check in almost the same as checking in earlier in the day or is it something that just makes the line go more smoothly because they have your info up front. Just wondering if they only assign rooms when you actually get to the front desk regardless if you did online check in or not. Any ideas?

I received an email titled "Walt Disney Travel Company Reservation #xxxxxx" in the email I click on Reservation and it takes me to a site with my reservation details that includes my preferences.

I also received an email with my invoice but it does not show the preference details.

It is my understanding they issue to rooms on arrival, as in what is ready when someone is physically there to go to their room. I hope you get your room choice though!

I'm not sure whether online checkin is any better or worse for getting the requests you want. They must block those rooms out in advance of your checkin so that your keycard is ready, etc - but maybe only the night before? Otherwise, general checkins seem to get allocated from the 'Ready Room' pool when you arrive.

The online checkin desk at the resort has been relocated recently by the way, and is much better now. Before it was at the back, by the kids TV area, but now all of the checkin desks are along the right-hand side of the lobby, with the online positions nearer the front and standard checkin to the rear, with two separate queue lines. I guess too many people were having trouble finding it before.

We didn't use online checkin this time as we had two rooms booked via separate reservations, and they didn't seem to be linkable on the online form (although they were on the original bookings). The online form is very limited in requests, with ground floor and trundle bed being about the only special choices.

I faxed our request in a bit more detail mid-afternoon two days before we arrived and were allocated exactly what I asked for (i.e. our booking was not left to the Ready Room system but had been pre-blocked out for us). In case anyone is interested, after the pleasantries I re-confirmed the two linked booking numbers and wrote:

We will not be arriving until mid-evening on Friday due to our flight times from the UK, and because we anticipate that President’s Day weekend will be very busy at the resort we would be most grateful if you could ‘block’ out two river view (as opposed to pool view) rooms for us at this point, rather than leaving it to chance when we arrive to check in.

We’d love rooms in our favourite Alligator Bayou 14 if you can mange that, but I know there is a lot of demand for Accessible rooms in that location so we’d be just as happy with any of the directly river-facing portions of Oak Manor or Magnolia Terrace (e.g. rooms 8771–8774, 9271–9274, or similar). Connecting or directly adjoining rooms are not particularly necessary if you cannot allocate them – we’d all prefer to opt for nice central locations with pleasant unobstructed river views if possible.
We got exactly what I asked for when we checked in at about 7.30pm on the Friday - corner rooms 9271 and 9274 which had absolutely prefect views of the river. So a big well done to the POR room allocators, thank you so much for your help. I'm going to send them a message saying that too, as I was very impressed knowing how busy the resort must have been at the time.
