We will be in AB section of POR March 25- April 1st. We should meet at the pool bar for drinks! Anyone have daughters around 8-13? My kids are very outgoing!!!

I am so jealouspopcorn:: , sorry just kidding:rotfl2: we are going to be at POP for 8 great days from the 24th of March to the 2nd of April. When we were planing our trip It was between POP and POR,and because of the time that we spend at the resort and the money we went with pop and no means Is this bad,we love pop. But I personal love POR,the whole south theme, the boat to DTD along with the river. You will absutley love your time there,I hope you folks can meet up, Its always nice to see the people here get together.

I am so glad to read this. I've been sweating gettting stuck in AB, in one of those buildings in the boonies. I'm a 'Scarlet' more than I'm a 'Tammy', lol. :rotfl: Some of you know what I'm talkin' about...

As far as I could tell all Mansions are being occupied. There seemed to be maids carts and guests roaming all of them. As far as the pool area goes, I would venture to say that it should be done soon. When we arrived on the 7th there were large holes drilled into the gunite on our last day those were repaired and technicians were intalling what appeared to be new pool lighting fixtures in the places. I've never seen what the pool looked like at night before the work but I'd guess the it will be quite a bit brighter now. those fixtures looked pretty large. The support structure for the slide appears to have been completely redone. I really didn't notice the old one go down, I was somewhat preoccupied, but one day I noticed it and the wood looked pretty fresh as well as all the bolts and joiners. I have pictures of all of that I'll post when I can. They are also replacing areas of the decking around the waterwheel which appear worn and splintered. I didn't poke about any of the alligator bayou buildings much but I didn't see that any of the quiet pools were closed. That's about all I can remember right now.

We were in building 25 in Sept. At first I was disappointed to be so far away from everything but it turned out to be okay. There was a bus depot (west) just a short walk away that was the first pickup (at least at the time)and we were by a quiet pool so we had the laundry room very close by too.

I'm so happy to have discovered this thread! We'll be there March 1-6 and I'm getting sooooo excited! We've always stayed at Values, so this is a real upgrade for us. I do have one question that I can't seem to find the answer too - are there lifejackets for children at the pools? We stayed at Pop last year and my DS used them daily. I'm just wondering if I should bring his own since his favorite thing is to swim around "by himself" and make new friends in the pool!

Hi all!

Can you remind me if we get shower gel in the rooms at POR? Just planning my packing list and it would be great to leave something off! Thanks

Unless it has changed since Aug., they only leave bar soap.

Glad you're finding my thread helpful, I'm happy to be able to help whenever I'm able.

The answer to your question is yes, you can indeed get free floatation jackets for kids at POR - just ask the pool Life Guards who will be able to help you.

And in reply to Pooh's Honey Pot: sorry, you don't normally get shower gel provided at POR, just two sizes of bar soap and small bottles of combined shampoo/conditioner.

Hope you both have great trips,

Andre

Hey all - LOVE the thread (Andre - YOU ROCK!)

We're heading back to POR in 2 weeks - this time bringing along DS 8 and DD 6. What cool things for kids that age is there to do?

My family will be there from 3/28-4/4 - I have 2 daughters 9 and 11!! We should meet up so they have some new friends to play with during the week!!

I was wondering the same thing - do I need to bring a life jacket for my 3 year old son or does POR have them there?!?

We are also at POR from March 28th through April 4th!! We arrive at about 9am and plan on spending the whole day on the 28th exploring and enjoying the resort!

Staying here in September. After staying at CBR in December and dealing with the long walk to the bus stop (and everything else) I am looking forward to the smaller resort. Thank you for all of the information. :)

FYI: Port Orleans Riverside will NO LONGERbe serving breakfast at Boatwright's Restaurant starting Feb. 22.

Is there any word on the status of an ETA for Old Man's Island being done with refurb'ing and will be open?

I just got off the phone with POR, and the CM stated that Old Mans Island is still being refurb'ed and there is no exact ETA, but that it is still standing at "Late Feb". I am not sure about the PP who said on another thread that is was done...but I just talked to the CM there about 15 mins ago. Perhaps it is still in the final phase of refurb. or perhaps someone jumped the gun on it.

I just thought I would share, for those who don't know, that bell services does have cold storage available if your room is not ready. This was actually my main reason for calling because the shopping service is delivering our food at 1pm, and if the room is not ready for us, we will need to leave it with bell services until we get into our room, and we have perishable food being delivered. Just an FYI in case anyone else wondered about this. :wizard:

About the pool, I would trust our fellow Dissers over the CM at a call center. Disney is not the quickest about getting information out, even to its own CM.

It actually was not a CM at a call center...I called POR directly, it was a POR CM who told me. I would hope they would know if the pool there was open! I hope it is open though, however I would feel a bit weary of staying at a place, Disney or not, who did not know if their pool was open! :lmao:

Maybe will run into you at the pool or piano bar!!! My daughters are 8,9, and 12. I'm sure you'll hear us coming!!! They do not know we are going yet. My youngest has had a tough 6mo. and is having minor surgery on Monday morning and we plan on telling her that morning to give her something else to think about and then we will let her share the news with her sisters when they get home from school that day! Can't wait to go back to POR, we were just there in Aug. but convinced DH to go back with the 4/3 deal. It took some convincing but we're going!!!
