The Mummy

We are going to Universal for the first time. My daughter is 21 and likes thunder Mountain Railroad Disney space Mountain but doesn’t like expedition Everest because of the going backward part. What is your opinion of the mummy for someone who likes thunder mountain and will write it multiple times? We’re just trying to determine if it’s worth putting her on or just having her go and do something else while we write it. Thank you in advance I try doing a search but I’m on my phone and it doesn’t work the best for me.

She should try it. It's the only way to know. It is my favorite ride so I am biased. I think it'd be a shame to miss it though. If she hates, she can blame me.

as an fyi, there IS a backwards part. No where near as fast, but it's there. My gut is that if she doesnt' like everest because of that (a thrill feeling) she will not like the mummy. Some pretty intense images in comparison to thunder mountain, much fast feeling, dark, loud. I love it, but i have family members who sound like they are similar to yours, and I know they'd hate it.

The backward part is straight back, no dips and is short, unlike Everest. It is one of my favorite rides. My only complaint is the ride is too short. We ride it at least 3 times in a row.

Mummy is definitely a ton of fun. It has to be my favorite ride in both parks and I don't consider myself a coaster fanatic. The largest drop is like 20 feet max, so that is good in my book.

For comparison, I really enjoy Big Thunder Mountain--but will not get on Space Mountain (once was enough!) and have never attempted Everest. I enjoy the Mummy and ride it each time but consider it the "peak" of my comfort zone. I didn't even remember there was a backward part until it was mentioned because it's just the ride slowly rolling back (no drops or steep inclines during this part).
I think your daughter should try it. As mentioned above, it's a very short ride, so if she doesn't like it, it will be over very quickly.

I am bothered, a lot, by the backwards part of EE. So, I know what your daughter means.
But, I have ridden the Mummy a few times and NEVER had a problem with the backwards part. I can't even remember it now. As a PP said, it is straight and short and did not bother me at all, which is saying something.
It's a great attraction, so I hope she doesn't miss it.

Mummy is one of my favorite rides but I'd consider it more intense than BTMRR. The hill seems larger and it pulls you up the hill at a quick speed so there's some fast movement and your butt lifts off the seat. There are a few points on the ride where it stops and starts again, so it's not constant and the intense parts are somewhat brief. My 68 year old dad rode it during our visit a few weeks ago and he enjoyed it.

I am bothered by backwards rides too! EE is edgy for me but I do it because I like the rest of the ride. The Mummy ride in Orlando is fantastic and the backwards part is slow and very tolerable.

However, the Mummy in Hollywood has a much more intense backwards segment and once was enough for me. If you've only ever been to the Hollywood version of the Mummy, try the Orlando version too.

I'd say she would probably be ok on it. Honestly the intensity isn't really much more than Big Thunder or Space Mountain. There is a backwards section but it is very short and nothing at all like Expedition Everest. There is no big hills or anything mostly speed and turns with a few small dips. It is nicely themed though and has some dark ride elements in addition to the coaster segments.

We have a daughter that doesn't like the backwards part of EE and won't ride anymore, but she loves Mummy. For each of the 5 of us, Mummy is probably in our top 2 in Orlando.

The Mummy is awesome! So says my then 8 and 10 year old as well. We had no idea what to expect and I think that was a good thing! But, I agree with others: there's no way to know until you try it. Rides are so individual. I have nightmares about Soarin' but I loooooooooved Flight of Passage.

My daughter does not do coasters unless they are mild. She hates EE but is willing to do The Mummy. Just to give you an idea...if you have ever been to Silver Dollar City....she cried on Fire in the Hole. Fire in the Hole only has one dip but it is a surprise other wise it wouldn't even be considered a roller coaster but she will do The Mummy. Her knuckles are white and she is breaking your hand...but she will do it. LOL. By the way, she is 17 now but this was when she was about 13. Fire in the Hole was 5th grade.

The backwards part on the Mummy does feel much like EE at all. Not intense on Mummy. Loved the Mummy....I told my wife it was like Space Mountain but in Hell.
