The Mother/Daughter Polynesian Surprise **NEW 5/1 I'm back!

That's really neat! Not sure if I'd follow that plan to a T, but at least it gives me an idea what I can get in. My actual ADR time is 9:55am so perhaps we can fit in a ride on Snow White... or maybe not. I might end up wanting to check in early for CP. Depends on our hunger pains by 9:30am. What are the tips that are mentioned in that plan? Tip #1, 2, etc.

Tip 1 says something about cutting through Tomorrowland Noodle Station as opposed to the Tomorrowland entrance, to get to Space Mountain faster.

Tip 2 is which side of the stretch room to wait on to get through faster, tip 3 is which side of the line is quicker.

It's probably that there are too many other restaurants on the to-do list. We don't usually do the breakfasts though, either....just grab something and go.

I can understand. Sometimes the breakfasts can take away your touring time. Especially during the crucial mornings when the lines aren't terribly long.

CP was one we threw out early on. For a while I was excited about it, but then after thinking about it, it just didn't make sense for us. I am simply NOT hungry until around 10:30, then POW! I want real food- BIG food. Also, if you do EMH AM, there's plenty of "empty park" to bask in. I didn't want to pay $20 to get a shot of the castle and not eat breakfast. Just me though. :hippie:

Right on! Your words speak the truth. I can't deny that I had the urge to experience it at least once, even if it did cost the $20  Nowadays I'm not hungry that early in the morning either. Hence the switch in ADR times.

Hey! I've finally caught up. Whew! Your "April" PTR took on a life of its own, huh? It's so great that you've been able to go on so many WDW trips!

:welcome: So glad to have you. :goodvibes Yes, indeed my April PTR turning into a November PTR and now a Feb PTR. Sooner or later it will JUST be my April trip. :rolleyes1 Hope I'm not confusing anyone!

I have a small confession - that makes me look like a big doofus, but here goes. It took me most of your report to figure out what TA really stood for. The whole time I was wondering, why would a Teacher's Assistant get Disney discounts? Then suddenly, this huge lightbulb went off & I finally realized you're a Travel Agent! Duh! :rotfl2: I blame the chemo brain, I really do. :snooty:

Oh no! I was worried that confusion would happen when I just said I was a TA. :headache: I guess I should've made it more clear. I'm glad you eventually figured it out though. Don't worry. You're not a big doofus for thinking that way. If you got confused, others might have too and just not said so. Perhaps I will skip the short form and fully write it out to avoid anymore confusion.

I haven't been over to your Nov. TR yet, but hope to get to it. My dream resort is the WL. I'm hoping to be able to swing a Christmas-time trip there this or next year.

Here's a little help to make that happen pixiedust: WL is even better at christmas time.

Your Feb plans sound great! I'm sorry to hear about Bubba not getting the extension she wanted. Why does drama always have to ruin things, hmm? At least the Great American Roadtrip sounds like a lot of fun! Get your kicks on Rte 66! :rolleyes1

Let's just say whining and crying never gets you anywhere. And it's not Bubba who was doing the whining and crying.... :sad2: Stupid drama! It's going to be a trip of a lifetime for her, for sure. I just wish I could join her :sad1:

You get a free cruise?!? Lucky Ducky! I'm so jealous. I've not been on a cruise yet, but it's on my list of things to accomplish soon. Be sure to post a TR so we can all live vicariously through your trip! :thumbsup2

One of the perks being in the travel business. Like I said (or at least I think I did) this will be my first cruise ever. I'm going with a bunch of people from my company so at least I'll feel comfortable. I'm definitely going to write a TR about my cruise. Stay tuned for that :thumbsup2

Your April trip sounds like it's coming together, too. You & your mom will have lots of fun. It's the time of year Somer & I go each year & you just can't beat the weather, low crowds, and F&G Festival. We stayed at the Poly last year - I think you'll really like it! We had a Garden View room on the 3rd floor outside corner of Tahiti - really nice!

Right! I forgot about the F&G festival. It's so refreshing to go to Disney at that time after enduring a long, cold Canadian winter. Brrrr! Thanks for the pic from Poly. I can't wait to stay there. My mom just might pee her pants when she finds out :rotfl2:

Tip 1 says something about cutting through Tomorrowland Noodle Station as opposed to the Tomorrowland entrance, to get to Space Mountain faster.

Tip 2 is which side of the stretch room to wait on to get through faster, tip 3 is which side of the line is quicker.

Oh okay, mostly stuff I already knew :p

Too much time has passed since my last update. For that I sincerely apologize. Life has been crazy over here. Here's a quick jenbear's life update:

I've been having my ups and downs with DBF. Moving back in with my family has not gone over well with him. That's not going to change my decision though :snooty: This weekend, we made HUGE progress on the basement, where I'll be sleeping. I actually have a bed (before I was sleeping on a couch) , a desk for my spoiled Mac, and pictures of my favourite animal in the world, horses, have been hung. I'm so happy to be home :cloud9:

We also celebrated my dad's 50-something birthday this weekend with a pancake dinner, birthday cake and presents. He got some really nice Pluto and Mickey garden ornaments from Bubba. I'll have to post the pics of them later. To finish things off, we went to see the movie, Edge of Darkness with Mel Gibson. My dad's choice of course. Let's just say I did not realize what I was in for :scared1: With all the blood, guts, and gore, my stomach was doing somersaults by the end

End of my life update.

Before I start getting back into organizing my newly designed room, I wanted to jump on the DIS for another update. Lest we forget that I will be back in Disney in less than 19 days!!! I can't believe we're into the month of February already. Here is how Day 3 for Feb is looking:

23ued60.jpg

This is Mission: TSM day. I want to try and ride it as much as we can. Maybe not quite a million times but at least as many as we can manage. I have to beat Glen's score at least :p

Animation Academy will be our retreat from TSM madness. I want to get at least 4 drawings in throughout the day.

I've never met Sorcerer (or Fantasia, as I like to call him) Mickey. Don't think Bubba has either. Another character meeting to check off our list.

I'm loving the fact that we'll be on the dining plan. Buying lunch and/or a snack will be much easier. I hope churros count as a snack because they are mmmm-mmmm good. You think Campbell's will come after me for saying that?

I haven't decided yet but I might just try ToT. I'll probably chicken out.

This day is our Le Cellier dinner. This was the only time I could get but at least it's something. Really, I wanted a lunch slot but this will do. Mushroom filet and ice wine, here I come!

After dinner is our chance to do anything we didn't get to the day before. I especially want to spend time in Japan. Last time, I saw a Yoshi t-shirt that was screaming "BUY ME" but alas the store had already closed. I can't let this happen again! And if it's not too pricey, I might even try pick-a-pearl

Finally, we'll end our day with Illuminations. By the time I go, I should have the entire song memorized. Thanks bellebookworm9 ;)

I better get going on my room. There's tons of boxes to haul back into storage. Until next time, take it easy :cool2:

Not to butt in too much, but I think it's a good move moving in back home. If you felt in your heart it wasn't going well, then you definitely needed a break! So glad you are feeling "at home" there again.

Definitely NOT feeling the need to see the Mel movie. I hate blood guts and gore movies.

Your day is totally do-able!! I don't think there's going to be ANY speed walking at all here. Unless you oversleep or something, and even then no biggie! You'll just fewer times to beat Glenn's score! :lmao:

I'm calling Campbells toll free number right now, Missy! :rotfl2:

Ice wine is spendy stuff! Good thing you have the TIW card!! You'd be paying out the nose for it otherwise- esp at Disney!

You too! :cool2:

Sorry to hear about your life issues. Sounds like you're doing the right thing though. :thumbsup2

I didn't realize your trip was so close! That's great; I'll soon have TR material to read! (right?)

Hey, I saw that! Well, you better beat it by a lot because I'm going back in June and intend to improve!

To decorate your room?

Just take your time jenbear, just take your time.

Oh, one more comment. I see you have an early dinner at Le Cellier and so are just planning a snack for lunch. I think that's a good idea -- go good and hungry!

I forgot to comment on the pick a pearl! When you're there could you get prices on a couple ring settings for me?? I'm pretty sure I"m going to do the pearl, but am not sure if I can afford the ring/setting price. Let me know!!

You're not butting in. I appreciate any advice, especially from trusty DIS friends :thumbsup2 I truly wasn't feeling it. I was too stressed, crying too much, and just overall not happy. :sad2: Since I've started going home, I've been much better. Thanks for the comforting words

Definitely NOT feeling the need to see the Mel movie. I hate blood guts and gore movies.

Me too. Seriously, is it really necessary to have blood spewing all over the place? Is that even realistic? I understand it's the movies but really, come on. Don't be so overdramatic Mr. (insert director's names here who consistently make gorey movies i.e. 300, Gladiator, Sweeney Todd, etc.)

Your day is totally do-able!! I don't think there's going to be ANY speed walking at all here. Unless you oversleep or something, and even then no biggie! You'll just fewer times to beat Glenn's score! :lmao:

Oh, I like that thought. No sleeping in allowed! There's no question, I will beat Glen. Period. :lmao:

I'm calling Campbells toll free number right now, Missy! :rotfl2:

Uh oh! I'm in trouble... Truly, your honor, I'm innocent

Ice wine is spendy stuff! Good thing you have the TIW card!! You'd be paying out the nose for it otherwise- esp at Disney!

I know, I know. Bubba was the one who introduced it to me! The bugger. Now I can't help myself every time I'm at Le Cellier. I just gotta end my meal with a glass of Inniskillin Ice wine :cloud9:

Sorry to hear about your life issues. Sounds like you're doing the right thing though. :thumbsup2

I sure hope I am :upsidedow It feels like the right thing to do anyway.

I didn't realize your trip was so close! That's great; I'll soon have TR material to read! (right?)

Of course! I'll post the link here (well not here, but on this thread) for the TR. :goodvibes

Hey, I saw that! Well, you better beat it by a lot because I'm going back in June and intend to improve!

Aw, crap. I'm going to need to put my game face on. Bubba is gonna think I'm nuts. There's no room for error! :3dglasses

To decorate your room?

Heyyyyyyy, I never thought of that. Good idea, Glen!

Oh, one more comment. I see you have an early dinner at Le Cellier and so are just planning a snack for lunch. I think that's a good idea -- go good and hungry!

Good point. I will change that to a snack. Hopefully one long churros can tie us over. This snack will need to be timed at the precise moment :scratchin

I forgot to comment on the pick a pearl! When you're there could you get prices on a couple ring settings for me?? I'm pretty sure I"m going to do the pearl, but am not sure if I can afford the ring/setting price. Let me know!!

I will make a note of that right now so I don't forget. You can count on me to get those prices for ya :thumbsup2

Day 3 plans look great! YAY for only 19 days!

I will make a note of that right now so I don't forget. You can count on me to get those prices for ya :thumbsup2

Just a simple ring setting. I know the pick-a-pearl is around $15.95, but the setting itself and the labor is way, way more. If there was something I could do for around $60 total I could swing that.

Thanks! Let's hope they don't change :lmao:

Wow that much just to pick the pearl? Are they actually worth more than that? I know nothing about jewelry so please, fill me in.

Random update:
I've been spending most of my day today transferring old home videos onto my computer. Through this process, I have discovered two Disney trips that I went on in '89 and '90. It's amazing how much has changed, and even how much has not. There was still the Skyway thingy in MK, 20,000 Leagues under the Sea, Dumbo was smaller and less extravagant, IASW was....still IASW  It was MGM Studios, not Hollywood Studios. The Backlot Tour took you onto the streets in New York. Character greetings = pandamonium. There were no CM "guards" (as I like to call them) back then. In the video, it's all my parents can do to get us in for a picture. Living with the Land had an actual CM narrating. Its surprising to see that our ways of growing crops hasn't changed since then  And the biggest thing, my parents were still together. I wonder how many more times we would've gone if they had stayed together? :upsidedow

Okay, I made it over! Now back to do some reading.... it might take me a while to get caught up;)

So, you were like, 4 years old? That must have been fun to watch. All of our home movies from when I was that age are of Christmas morning, and we're all squinting because the bank of lights that my dad put on the movie camera could have lit up a stadium.

Okay, I made it over! Now back to do some reading.... it might take me a while to get caught up;)

Hey Rebecca! :welcome: If it gets too overwhelming, just jump in at the Feb updates. Only 18 more days until I go :woohoo:

So, you were like, 4 years old?

Yup, the ripe, innocent age of 4

That must have been fun to watch.

It amazes me how I was. To put it frankly, very VERY shy. I can tell my favourite ride was Cinderella's Carousel, since we rode it twice in one day. I loved those horses. That's one trait that has carried through to adulthood.

All of our home movies from when I was that age are of Christmas morning, and we're all squinting because the bank of lights that my dad put on the movie camera could have lit up a stadium.

 Gotta love those old cameras. I found out that the video camera my dad was using to record all these movies cost $1049CAD. :scared1: Guess that was the going rate for technology back then. How times have changed.

Bubba has been suffering from a head cold these past couple of days. Fortunately, she is well on the mend. Thankfully she gets sick NOW and not on the trip. I just have to make sure I don't come down with anything *knock on wood*

There's been talk about possibly extending my stay an extra night. This is highly unlikely due to Air Canada's laughable fare increases. It would cost me an additional $140+ to change my return to a day later. I really can't justify the cost for an extra day. If I was going to do that, I might as well put that kind of money towards this pocket HD camcorder.

2e0qs87.jpg

I've had my eye on this thing all week after discovering family videos of Disney World back in '89. It runs a pricetag of about $190CAD. It's one thing to capture the moment in photographs but another thing entirely having things on video. The camcorder I have now is a decade old but hasn't been touched in nearly two years. Is it just me or do people use camcorders less and less these days? Would this purchase even be worthwhile?

I have been thinking about starting a travel blog (since I have a number of trips planned for this year) with possible video documentation as part of it. I could definitely use one of these for that purpose.

This little camera would have been very useful for the Spectacle of Lights

My digital camera let's me record videos, but only at one-minute intervals. It's a real pain trying to record any sort of fireworks show or.... well, anything in general. Plus the quality is crap.

Alright, I'll spare you with my ramblings about this silly camera.

Here's plans for Day 4!

mblmae.jpg

I forgot to slot in time for returning our fridge to LS. It shouldn't take very long, right? Maybe we'll pack it up the night before so we can get out of Pop that much faster in the morning.

We'll be transferring over to KIDANI VILLAGE! :yay: There's no doubt in my mind that our room won't be ready at this hour in the morning. If it is, I'll be rather surprised. At least I do not want to end up in another situation like last time at AKL (read my November TR if you don't already know) If the room is not ready, that's fine. I'd much rather a clean room.

Since we're over that way, this will be AK day. First stop must be EE since Bubba didn't get to go on it last time. We're going to make this our first stop. Might get a FP for the safari beforehand.... It is at opposite ends of the park so we'll see.

I'm going to try (emphasis on TRY) to sit through the Finding Nemo: The Musical. First time we saw this in '08 was a terrible experience. We got in just before it started so guess where we were? Yup, standing room only. It felt like they chopped up the storyline and we were half way through the movie within 5 minutes. Just didn't feel right to be cutting up a movie like that. We ended up leaving after about 10 minutes. Now, I'm thinking my understanding and appreciation for musicals has changed. I think we'll give this one another go.

Most of the day is open for relaxing and exploring Kidani. I really want to be able to experience this resort for all it's worth.

We have our Narcoosee's dinner, which will be paid for by the wonderful dining plan. :cool2: If I've done my math correctly, we should have enough credits for this dinner :teacher: I haven't even had a chance to look at the menu on AllEars, nor read any reviews here on the DIS. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a good review?

I'm sure this evening at "leisure" will turn into something crazy  But for now, it's supposed to be spent at the resort. We shall see.... :rolleyes1

Until next time, take it easy :hippie:

I would be shocked :faint: if your room is ready at that early hour. You're paying cash though, so the check-in times may be different. For DVC, check-in time is not until 4:00 pm! (Although they quite often get you in earlier.) Are you planning on taking your bags yourself, or having bell services deliver them? If you want to shepherd them, then by all means, go there first and they can store them until your room is ready. But if you're having bell services do it (which I did last time, it worked great), I'd just go directly to AK, enjoy the day, and come check-in at Kidani later in the day.

Nemo...haven't seen it yet. Looked like something down on the priority list for me last time. But I've recently read a couple of trip reports that were really complimentary of this show. So, I think we'll have to catch it (no fish pun intended) this year.

Haven't eaten at Narcoosee's either. I'm just not a lot of help here. I don't think this is the first time I've posted that on your PTR. :rolleyes1

And the camera. It looks way cool, I'll have to check it out in a store sometime. I say "yes" (but then again, I don't have to pay for it).

Nemo is a super wonderful show!! I would go again in an instant! The costumes alone make it totally worth it!

I made it all the way through, finally! Now I can keep up with ya, I think.

Well, first of all, I just wanted to say that I think its wonderful you have such a close relationship with your sister. I only have brothers, and they are much younger than me, so we've never been extremely close. I always longed for a sister. Were you two close growing up, or did you fight a lot? I watch my daughters now fighting with each other, but they have so much fun together too, that I have a feeling they will be close friends as they grow up.

Boy, you just keep adding trips all over the place! When I first started reading, it was just a PTR for April. Then, surprise, a trip in November. Then, surprise, another trip in February. And now you are going on a cruise in early April? Girl, you've got it made! Maybe I should look into becoming a travel agent, right? I hope you will give us a mini-TR (or heck, a full one) on your April cruise, even though it isn't a Disney cruise. I've never been on Norwegian, but I've heard very good things. And hey, free is free.

Oh, and I really like your spreadsheets for planning - very easy to read and keep track of everything. :thumbsup2

I say go for the camcorder! But, I never say no to new camera equipment for Somer, so maybe I'm a bit biased. :rolleyes1

I bought a little Canon camcorder for Somer for Christmas last year & we did use it some on our trip. I thought we'd use it more than we did, but we spent more time on still pictures. Still, the videos we did get I thought made it worth the investment. We've since used the camera to record several other events as well.

I liked the Finding Nemo musical when we saw 2 years ago. I enjoyed the costuming & the music & the "flow" of the show. But everyone is different. If you think you won't like it, I wouldn't waste the time on it. There's so many other ways to enjoy yourself in AK.

Your relaxing day at Kidani Village sounds good!

Since we'll have a car, if our room isn't ready, we'll just keep it all in the car. It'll save time unloading the luggage. Plus we won't need to worry what Bell services is doing with it.

Nemo...haven't seen it yet. Looked like something down on the priority list for me last time. But I've recently read a couple of trip reports that were really complimentary of this show. So, I think we'll have to catch it (no fish pun intended) this year.

That's what I've been reading too. We'll probably end up going. I'm really interested to see just how good this show is.

Haven't eaten at Narcoosee's either. I'm just not a lot of help here. I don't think this is the first time I've posted that on your PTR. :rolleyes1

Don't beat yourself up  That just means you need to get more done on your next trip so you'll be more help :p

And the camera. It looks way cool, I'll have to check it out in a store sometime. I say "yes" (but then again, I don't have to pay for it).

It's definitely easier to say "yes" when the money isn't coming out of your pocket :lmao: I'm leaning more and more towards getting it. I wonder if I order it in the next couple of days, it'll come in time for my trip :scratchin

Nemo is a super wonderful show!! I would go again in an instant! The costumes alone make it totally worth it!

See! Another good review. I must be missing out on something grand.

I made it all the way through, finally! Now I can keep up with ya, I think.

You think? No, no. You will

My sister and I have been close all our lives. Most likely due to our parents getting divorced. We only had each other to turn to at times. Our friends didn't understand because they weren't going through what we were. There was a period (teenage years) when her and I didn't talk much. Those were the worst years of my life. I went through the rebellous stage when she never really did. I guess there was just a misunderstanding between us. Now, we're like two peas in a pod. Now that we're both in our 20s, we've really come to an understanding of each other; more importantly an appreciation of one another. I love my sister wholeheartedly. I'm sure your daughters will grow to appreciate one another too. :goodvibes

And hey, free is free.

:rotfl2: When you put it all in one spot like that, it does seem a bit excessive. :rolleyes1 That's what happens when you're in the travel business, for sure. It can't be helped when you're dealing with people that are always going places. You start to feel a bit left out! I'm looking forward to the cruise. It's not going to be all fun, though. There's some seminars I have to go to. I will definitely be writing a mini-TR if enough of you are interested.

Oh, and I really like your spreadsheets for planning - very easy to read and keep track of everything. :thumbsup2

Thanks :goodvibes It seems to be the best format for me. I tried changing it but nope! Why change a good thing?

I say go for the camcorder! But, I never say no to new camera equipment for Somer, so maybe I'm a bit biased. :rolleyes1

Okay, now I'm REALLY leaning towards getting it. Talk about peer pressure :rotfl:

I liked the Finding Nemo musical when we saw 2 years ago. I enjoyed the costuming & the music & the "flow" of the show. But everyone is different. If you think you won't like it, I wouldn't waste the time on it. There's so many other ways to enjoy yourself in AK.

I still don't feel like I gave it a decent chance the first time I saw it. My step-dad and older step-sister (I have two step-sisters, one older, one younger, both from different sides of the family. Not to confuse you or anything) was with us and they seem to have... how to put this... short attention spans. Plus they're beach people. They were more interested in running through the parks, getting as much done in as little time as possible so they could get some sun. Neither my mom, myself, or my sister were very impressed. But I guess that's how you learn who to travel with and who NOT to travel with. Wow, that was quite the ramble

Your relaxing day at Kidani Village sounds good!

I'm really looking forward to extensive coverage of Kidani. If I end up getting the camcorder (which is likely) maybe I'll be able to share some video tours with you :yay:

I just finished reading your November TR. We were that week and it was crowded. We stayed at Kidani. So, I'm in for this trip too. Do you live in Toronto? I have a bunch of family there.
