The Mine Train Stratagy

I find the popularity of the Mine Train interesting. We rode the ride a couple of times the week it opened, and found it to be pretty so-so. I wonder how many people who ride it return?

Had read about this attraction on this board ever since it opened and had a VERY low expectation going in. We were pleasantly surprised. Now it wasn't Rock'n Roller Coaster, though it sure was much better then the goofy roller coaster, which is what we expected. They could have done a little more in the beginning, with an inside portion building the story, but besides that, it's a perfect stepping stone up from the Goofy Roller Coaster, for younger children. We rode it twice, (3 adults, wife, daughter and myself) and we'll ride it again when we go back.[/QUOTE]

Getting into the standby line about 10 minutes before the park closes is one way of getting to ride a popular attraction.

We tried this first week of November in Epcot for Frozen. We got there a few minutes before 9:00 on a regular 9:00 close evening and the wait was 1.5 hours. We did not wait and didn't see it our whole vacation. We have AP's so hopefully will get to see it the next time we are down.

Its important to note that posting "hugely-inflated" wait-times on the attraction signs
is a VERY long-standing practice of how Disney CMs discourage late-riding guests.

That is very possible, makes sense, - but we did not wait to find out. We did ask and that is what was posted and that is what they said - but I wouldn't doubt they inflated the wait time.

For future reference (and for those following along,) if very near closing time you see an attraction queue with an extremely long wait-time posted (an hour or more,) if you want to try to ride... get into the queue and wait to see what happens in 5-10 minutes.
Many, many times, you'll find that the line just moves right along and you can get to the boarding area in a MUCH BRIEFER time than the sign posted.

If NOT, then you can simply exit the line and be on your way.
All you did was invest a few minutes in research.

But, if you DO get to ride in short order... SCORE!

We had a FP+ last November when we went. My daughter, then 15, was not impressed. We saw it several times with a shortish line and I asked her if she had any interest in riding it again. She said nope. It was very meh.

We had never experienced the castle being closed off at rope drop either until November 20.

We were headed to Peter Pan, so going left around the castle didn't slow us down any, but it was sort of disappointing not being able to start our trip going right through the castle, since we had two first-timers with us.

that was a filming date for the holiday shows, I think it was only closed because they had the additional setup for that in place. I was at an MVMCP party the day before it started to tape and the middle of the hub was closed off with all types of lighting rigs, cherry pickers and it was really annoying.
