I agree with you PAW and if I had lost a loved one in that crash, it would not comfort me one bit to look at a police cruiser or even the plane for hours.

Oh, and while I'm at it, if anything does happen to someone I love, no reporter had better shove a microphone in my face and ask me how I felt when I found out. I'm mild mannered but I swear I will just start shouting every dirty word I've ever heard in my life. Let them put that on the air. I think that is a disgraceful and cruel thing to do to people who are grieving.

Holy jaded television-viewer...

This is exactly why I left television news. I was a cameraman (er...woman), for a 24 hour news channel in NY for 5 years (I was even nominated for an Emmy for my work). I was there for 9/11. I lost friends. I left the business when I realized that I was no longer affected by it. When someone dies, and I am indifferent to it, then something is tragically wrong.

I am not at all indifferent to the tragic death of any person. But, I think we need some perspective here. You are talking about human interest. As much as i would prefer news sources to stick to information/NEWS, I am not naive to the fact that the bottom line with 24 hour news stations is keeping the viewers interested. The human interest impact is lost when you show a police cruiser in the snow for hours.

(btw, before you tell me that I didn't have to watch it for hours...I really didn't sit there watching it. It just happened to be on, across the room, and I didn't bother to turn it off. Just making an observation of the ridiculousness of it all)
