The Med Thread - All Sailings - Mediterranean

Is there an excursions forum yet? Should there be? I think it would be a good place for people to exchange information, ideas, etc about these side trips. What do you think?

Since I posted this, there haven't been any suggestions or references either way to an existing thread. If no one knows of any, I'll start one. That way all the talks about excursions can be discussed by everyone, with any new infomration, or old information for that matter passed along to every one.

Well, I'd sure like to hear some discussion about the excursions. There are so many offerings and so many decisions to make. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts ....but maybe it would be easier if someone started a new thread, just to keep everything in one place.

John,

We are staying in London one night before we come home after the cruise.

I have not booked a hotel as of yet. Can you please give me the info on your priceline success??? Which hotel did you get & how much. How are you getting from the airport to the hotel? Are you flying into LHR airport?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Patricia

Hi Patricia,

I'm happy to share. We are staying at Hilton Metropole and are paying US$80/night per room for two nights. We desired this hotel since it is near Paddingtion Station (Heathrow - Paddington express train). I was pretty sure I'd get this hotel and I got hints for how to bid on a site called biddingfortravel.com (add the www). I bid one area 4 star, rejected, then added an additional area and raised my bid to $80. It was accepted. Hope this helps and let me know if you have success.

John, that's a great rate for that hotel! Lucky you. It's in a perfect area too, we stayed there last march.

Greetings. Do I understand that a .pdf version of the excursions exists somewhere? If so, I would be grateful if you could pass it along. My e-mail address is klbramley@tecoenergy.com. I am sorry I don't know the rules of the forum and not sure how to request information. We are eagerly awaiting the May 26 cruise. Thanks for the help.:cool1:

Hope you island vacation was great. It has been very rainy here in Florida.

We need to make hotel reservations in Barcelona for Aug 8th and 9th. 6 of us.

Any suggestions? I would like to stay near the beach.

I can stay for free at the Mallorca Marriott Son Antem Golf Resort & Spa. How do you get from Barcelona to Mallorca? Is it only available by air? Is there a ferry? How far is it?

Your best bet is an apt. In Europe they have very few hotel rooms that hold more than two people.

Just a note to let you know I sent you an email with the pdf of the excursions. Have fun!

You can try here: Hispanos 7 Suiza. It's not near the beach - it's close to La Sagrada Familia.

Here is a review page on tripadvisor.

I know that I found an english version of their official web site but I can't do it today for some reason. So here's the link to the Catalan / Spanish version.

I agree - check out this website:

http://www.bcninternet.com/apartdet...ooms=2&pageNum_apartmentSet=6&apartmentid=263

That is the apartment we ( 4 of us ) are renting pre-cruise - there is a 3 night min. and we are arriving on the 5th and sailing the night of the 7th of July. Even with renting for 3 nights ( $651.00USD total all tax& fees included), it is still cheaper than 2 nights at the one hotel my TA said DCL was offering at $374 + tax per night - and we will have 2 bedrooms with a full kitchen and it looks like a great view. This company has been very nice and prompt to reply to my emails. They have many apartments available.

Wishing you lots of luck!

Best regards,
Sherri

Does this sound a little odd to anyone? Too good to be true? I’m trying to look at ways to go to Paris for a couple of days after the cruise then gets back to LAX and I found:

Spanair to CDG $139
Air India LTD to Newark $383 Has anyone every heard of this airline? Do we fly like Fred Flintstone on the wing?
Continental to LAX $174
Total $696

Just wondered if anyone has looked into transportation to hotel /port from barcelona airport?

Anyone know how far out the airport is?

We bought the DCL transfers to get us from port to airport but I'd like to know how far it is too-I can't figure it out from the Barcelona map.

Here is the information I found on Disney's website:

Getting to the Port on Your Own
The Port of Barcelona is close to the city of Barcelona and only eight miles from the airport. Exit the airport and take the road to Barcelona City. Once there, take the Ronda Litoral Highway and take the exit marked "Puerto." Turn right and continue to follow the signs indicating Puerto. Ships are berthed at Adossat Terminal (Moll D' Adossat). Guests board the Disney Magic® at Terminal C.

I got there by clicking on My Disney Cruise, then clicking on My Travel Resources, then clicking on European Travel Logistics. Scroll down until you find Port of Barcelona - Getting to the port on your own! Hope this helps!

The airport website says the airport is 3km from the port or a 20-30 min ride from the airport into downtown Barcelona.

Here's a map where you can see both. The Aeroport De Barcelona is in the lower left corner, and the Port De Barcelona is in the upper right.

I was told that it was about a 30-40 minute cab ride from airport to port. Depending on traffic. When I asked disney about using the transfer for "non" disney hotels they said that I could not do it. Only to/from airport/ship or disney approved hotels. So that puts myself and I am sure lots of others out! Especially after, I just wanted a one way ride from the boat to the airport, and disney told me you can't do one way. Oh well...still getting excited.

I am going to look at that spanair price as I want to go to paris afterwards as well and didn't see that good of a price.
