We plan to tour lightly - a bottle of water, a light jacket, and a small camera so we won't have to lug a backpack around.

Someone posted earlier in this thread asking if anyone knew DCL's cancellation policy for their excursions. I called and asked this question last week and I was told you must cancel 3 days from the sailing date or you will lose the entire amount of the excursion price. Even though you don't pay upfront when you book, you will still be charged it on your room bill.

So do you know what if you don't book excursions until you board...or do you think thats a bad idea. I am only sold on 3 excursions right now. I am waiting for the trip reports for people before me to see if there are any others. Anyone have opinions on this? Safe or not?

Thank you I was wondering about that.

I dont mind the 3 days before the excusion , but 3 days from the sailing date that is seriously making me think about booking only a couple and then going to the excursion desk the day before each one when on ship.

I have a back problem - sometimes im fine other times not -I can't predict what is going to be like.

If I were to wait until I was onboard to book, how likely is it that many, if not most, of the excursions will be filled up?

I just took a look at the DCL page for the 11-night Med cruises and some of the ashore and onboard times have changed. For example, my confirmation page (printed by Disney when I booked on board) says Naples is 6:30 am to 7:30 pm, but the website now says 7:30 am to 7:30 pm. The biggest change seems to be Marsellies. My confirmation says 7:30 am to 7:00 pm, but the website says 8:00 am to 9:30 pm.

On one hand this worries me because we are planning a few private tours and time changes might mess those up (or at least cause me to have to contact the guides and adjust our times). But on the other hand, I am REALLY hoping for more time in La Spezia, so perhaps these changes are a hopeful sign . . .

I second that. A number of people had asked about the possibility of taking two different excursions on the same day. One in the morning, and one in the afternoon. But the timing info isn't available yet.

I wish but I'll be carrying stuff for our children as well. I don't want them to carry their own stuff. Plus, I have Digital SLR camera that I won't travel without. Some of the tours I was looking at said no bottle water too. So you'd have to leave that on the bus but I won't leave my camera on the bus.

I bought 2 large waist packs for my husband and I. They are larger than most.Three zippered pouches. Got them from TravelSmith.com. The waist strap has steel band inside so it can't be cut by thief. They come in many colors. But the main thing is they'll hold a lot.

hmmmm... I'm with you. I was gonna book several that included my kids but I was gonna cancel if they didn't feel like coming. I guess, they will be going on all the excursions with us.

Just saw the latest times. That's awful late to be in Marsielles. I'm not sure there is anything there we want to see. So, does anyone know how long by express train it would take to get to Paris? Cannes? Someplace else?

Yes we already have our cards inside our passports. I applied on line and found it so much easier than the forms from the post office.

Just saw the latest times. That's awful late to be in Marsielles. I'm not sure there is anything there we want to see. So, does anyone know how long by express train it would take to get to Paris? Cannes? Someplace else?

There's no way you would have to time to get to Paris from Marseilles on that day, but we plan to take the train up to Arles. It runs about 20 times a day and takes about an hour. You could also go to other areas in Provence like Avignon or Les Baux via train from Marseilles. Another option is to rent a car in Marseilles and just drive through several small towns in Provence -- that would be lovely.

We are interested in going to the Provence areas. One of the Disney tours says that most of the shops will be close on Sunday the day we go. Do you think it would still be worth it? I love the photos I've seen of the different cities online.

Call DCL, they have the times. I called to get more info and they told me the tims for some of the excursions. They couldn't tell me any times for the Villefranche excursions, but I got Marseille, Cadiz and couple other...

My favorite thing to do when in Europe previously is just to roam -- it always seemed that you stumble upon the most beautiful places you never would have seen if you had planned it . . . I wouldn't worry about shops being closed.

Yeah, I'm starting to talk myself into the car rental idea (after thinking I had settled on the train to Arles)! With more time in Marseilles, it becomes a real possibility.
