Here is the map of the bike course for the Florida Half Ironman.

Am I correct in asssuming that MK lies south of Reams Road?

It looks like most of the course is on the outskirts of WDW. Is that right.

Just looking for someone who knows the roads near WDW.

Thanks in advance. :sunny:

can't help you, but just wanted to wish you luck. I have friends doing a full ironman here in two weeks - you're all bonkers but I hope you do well.

Yay! the map is up!!

Floridafam...see that part of the lake attached to the left of Bay Lake (it looks sort of like an anvil)? that is the seven seas lagoon, I am pretty sure.
And the RD told me it was going to be pretty flat.
I just booked an extra trip out there...I am not too thrilled on the idea of renting a car...though it would be nice to drive the course. Will let you know if I do that. :)

littlegreydonkey...my coach will be doing IM NZ...yay!! So, I'll be watching those results online. Friends and I are tossing around the idea of doing it next year!

Floridafam...you can look it up on mapquest...Reams road is to the north of WDW.

I'm pretty impressed with mapquest now...they have the lakes (bay lake, seven seas lagoon) and even the Sassagoula river all named!

Cheers,
betsy

My DH about fell off his chair when he was checking his age group participants the other day. Chris McCormack is going to be there. (I can't figure why they had him listed in an age group.)

He's like a god to my DH!

Tim DeBoom is also doing a 1/2 Ironman but not Ralph's. I wonder if he will show.

littlegreydonkey,

Don't congratulate me. DH is the one doing the race. I'll be the one watching from the sidelines and eating a Mickey Bar.:teeth:

Put an extra Mickey bar in the cooler for me, and I'll grab it when I run by!!
Oh, darn...I can't...against USAT rules. Save it for after the race! heehee!! :p

So, Macca's going to be there! whoa. I know Andrea Fisher and Jamie Cleveland are supposed to be going...but it's hard to predict for the pros.

Okay, I'll save you a Mickey Bar.

Didn't you say you have a P2K? DH may buy a new bike and he's narrowed it down to the Talon SL, the P2K, the Trek Time Trial or the Medone. Do you really like your bike?

I'm really getting excited about this trip. I hope everyone does really well.

Good luck everyone!

I do love my P2K...but really, it comes down to which one fits best and that your DH feels the most comfortable on.

It's getting warmer down here...riding outside now...It is so awesome! I wish good training weather for your DH. :)

I'm looking forward to this race...it's going to be just fun. Though I am bummed, 'cause I read that the Dinosaur ride will be in rehab while we're there. Oh, well...plenty of other fun around.

Will let you know if I manage to see part of the course when I go over there in March. (I planned an extra quickie trip, 'cause I have been really working my booty off at work and it was stressing me out!)

Have a good trip! I wish my DH could get down there earlier. Oh well. All he wants to do is enjoy himself that day.

No Dinosaur ride? I should look and see what's closed while we are there. Are you staying at Disney for a while after the race?

We're going to do MK on Monday morning and take a fireworks cruise on the Grand 1 that night and then we're off to Vero Beach.

Be sure to post if you are able to drive the course. I'd love to hear what you think of it. :sunny: :sunny:

ironz - wish I had some insider info to give your coach but I don't (ironman scares me - I'll stick to my half marathons thanks a lot - until 2009 when I'm running the disney marathon - there I've said it in print!). The only thing I think people don't realise about NZ is it's pretty humid here at the moment, I know he's going to be seriously clued up about hydration but just thought I'd mention it. Also, if you've ever heard the crowded house song '4 seasons in one day' it applies here: one minute its windy, the next it's pouring and seconds later it's steaming so dress accordingly. Wish him luck, he'll have a great time here

Thanks, donkey! :)
Actually, my coach is a woman...she's down there now training, and has done the race before. Hope she does well!

Weather sounds like Texas...just wait 30 min. and it'll change! :)

floridafam, I am leaning towards renting a car for the March trip...so will definitely let you know about the course. :)

I wish we were in Florida right now. DH almost took job in Panama City Beach a few months ago but then his Mom became ill.

Hopefully, we'll live in Florida one of these days and he can train whenever he wants to. He does train on his bike and swims but it's hard to fit a run in when it's icy outside.

I'm just afraid that all of the above, the heat and it being the first race of the season for him is going to make for disaster.

Have fun in March! Are you staying at WL when you go?
