BeenHereB4 I have to ask you does your screen refer to reincarnation?

Yes, it does. My ex-DH was part of my old name, RichnKatHolly. Figured new DH, new screenname! ;) I do think I've posted on this thread under that name as well.

I'm with you about the brushes. They are so much cheaper and do really look and feel the same as many makeup-specific brushes, but I just can't do it! Although I was seriously considering stopping at Michaels yesterday to have a look (ended up with 3 new Sonia Kushic (sp?) instead).

To save you gals the trouble, I did pick up a #2 and #4 flat, golden synthetic haired, artist brushes to apply eyeshadow & Colorstay liner with. (Never used them for painting.) They don't feel right. And my eye makeup looked like crap after being put on. I don't think there's enough "fluff" in them to blend well. :p

Thank you for the info. I'll stick to my Sonias from Target then. :thumbsup2

The ULTA ones are pretty good but they do not have a HUGE selection, it is respectable but not huge. When they are bogo it is a good deal except you really need to get two of the same type because the prices are not the same for the differnt styles. There is I think one 30 stippling brush but who needs two of them? If you have a friend with whom you can go halves it would be worth it. I got two angled liner brushes to help save me cleaning right away. They were 2 for 14 but I cannot tell if they are synthetic.

Also someone told me that ULTA shadows are made by MAC. I doubt it but I tried to research it on line but no luck.

Also I JUST found out that MAC (AKA Estee Lauder) has a huge warehouse sale each year. IN 2009 I think it was in Toronto but I think it moves around. I have been trying to find info. I also found out it is by invitation only. Does anyone know about this? Is it like the Vera Bradley sale where you need to PAY for a ticket to go?

NOT That I NEED it. However, if anyone has an info on either of the above topics I would love to read it.

Thanks for the ULTA info. There is one opening soon literally right at the end of my block. :cool1:

I love, Love, LOVE the MAC powder brush I got. I didn't get that $35 Sephora brush as I didn't know how well it was going to work.

I had a friend, who is a professional makeup artist on movie sets make me up with the MAC stuff she uses on sets. My face looked totally like it didn't have foundation on afterwards. She taught me how to use that brush properly to swipe on the finishing powder, (using the SIDE of the brush instead of the ends of the bristles) so that it doesn't sink into the lines under my eyes.

I used to avoid concealer before she put the MAC concealer on. Everything always made me look older as it emphasised my lines. :( So I either had no dark shadows but looked older, or I kept the shadows. I ended up buying the MAC powder brush from eBay. It was $50 at the MAC store and I got one for $27 off eBay. :cool1:

You HAVE to go to the opening. My friend went and literally walked away with a huge bag of makeup for free. Of course I am the one who thought I was getting a bunch of free stuff when Nordstroms opened:rotfl:

The thing is my friend went the night it opened and she said the freebies and specials were fantastic. If you go let us all know how you do.

YOur friend must be using the MAC PRO line. I do not know if us mere make up mortals can purchase that. My husband got me the MAC 138 for mothers day...52 dolllars. YIKES! It must be made of mink! I did buy the Mac Foundation brush when it was on sale a few weeks ago for 25% off. That made it in the 30's but still.

If you are a Costco memeber check out the Borghase brush set they carry each year at Christmas(watch this year they will not just b/c I am waiting for it). The brushes are great and I think you get like 12 different sizes for 25.00 it is a steal. I have gotten three sets (one for each year they have carried them) and plan to get another this year. It makes it easy to clean brushes every 3 days when using the more popular ones like the blending, and lay down brushes.

Oh, yippee!! This is very good to know. I'll be the first one in the door if at all possible. :rotfl:

I'll have to start doing a weekly check to see if they have an opening day planned yet.

Hi everyone! I had a wonderful vacation. We got back Friday around 1:30am. No one wanted to leave the Polynesian. It was H-O-T, with a couple gray days and rain. I didn't get any makeup in the Paris shop but I got a little Eiffel Tower to put on my dresser next to my bottle of Chanel #5. Now when I put on my makeup I feel like an extra pampered princess: :cloud9: Then I wake up this morning and see on the news about the monorail accident :sad1: My heart really goes out to that young man and his family, along with the driver of the other monorail.

The day we were at the Magic Kingdom was super duper hot but my Revlon Colorstay Active stayed put all day. I put my laura mercier primer underneath and it worked great, although I'm sure the monostat would have worked just as good. I set it with Too Faced Absolutely Invisable transluscent powder. I wore Revlon colorstay liquid liner and L'Oreal Double Extend mascara on my eyes. Instead of blush, I wore Smashbox Softlights in Tint. Softlights Tint is the BEST highlighter I have found. It's like a very soft bronzer. It's the only bronzer like stuff that doesn't make my face look "dirty". It was quick easy and lasted all day.

I hate to be home but the good news is no more no/buy! Tuesday is 20% off for college students discount at Ulta (I still have few more courses to take for my associates degree next spring) and the 20% is off the good stuff too. Sooooo, I think I may head up there to have a looksie. If you have a college ID, you should go. They do it every first Tuesday of the month.

*WAVES HI*

I'm so happy I found this thread!!! I am in dire need of makeup help. I recently found out that I have a severe reaction to most eye makeups, and the only ones that do not cause my eyes to swell/blister/puff up are Bobbi Brown and MAC. Of course, they're crazy expensive at times. So, what would be the basics to start out with them?

Also...any tips on getting your eyes to pop out without looking trashy would be nice ;) I have olive skin and dark brown eyes.

Also, I could really use a good recommendation on a perfume. I absolutely adore Estee Lauder's Beautiful Sheer, but I can't seem to find it anymore. The regular Beautiful is a little too strong for me. Can anyone recommend something lighty and airy like Sheer?

TIA!

Oh, that must be why the woman at the MAC counter had asked me if I also needed stuff as heavy as to be used on camera or for everyday use, which is what I got. I still spent an arm & a leg with what I got. :faint:

I suggest going to YOUTUBE and put in gossmakeupartist in the search. He is a very good make up ARTIST not a wanna be like some of them. Anyway, he does do many of the tutorials on himself but ....if you can get over it he is really really good. Once you get used to him you will check him out every day. He is really not offensive so give it a chance. There are other people on there makeupgeek is also good but I like gossmakeupartist the best.

yes, there are some good make up videos on YouTube. Just put in the search there something like "smokey eye look" or "how to apply eye makeup" and you get a ton of videos. Many of them will even tell you which products they are using as the go along.

Have you ever seen gossmakeupartist? Honestly, when I first watched him I said," WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!" Although having gone to art school and being use to lots of different people, I figured he was just a little weird but the more I watched him, the more mainstream I find him. Check him out.

Welcome back!

Please tell, how did the make-up, especially the L'Oreal Double Extend mascara (my favorite) hold up??? :)

Okay so I read somewhere that at mask containing rosemary was supposed to be good for your hair actually your scalp...anyone know how to make one?
I am just taking a shot in the dark here but one never knows. I saw somehthing on MSN about it but they did not tell you how to make it.

It held up great! :thumbsup2 The one thing I ask of mascara (besides making my eyelashes stand out) is that it not smudge off under my eyes. My eyes are deep set and mascara always ends up down there. Double Extend does not smudge...at all! That said though, I was too chicken to try it at the pool. The day before we checked into the Poly, we spent one night at BCV and spent the day at Storm Along Bay. I didn't want to risk scaring young children so I didn't put on mascara or eyeliner on that day. But it did great in the parks!

Can I be your deep set eye friend?? :goodvibes Nearly everything I put on my eyes ends up underneath. And don't get me started on trying to find fun eyeshadow colors that don't make my eyes look even deeper and darker than they already are. Arrgh!
