Hi! Can I join in for a little bit? :wave2: Or is this another kind of clique thread masquerading as a makeup thread? :confused3 I'm really not a Sci in disguise. ;)

Anyway, I have two questions:

1) I have dandruff or dry scalp so I've been using Head & Shoulders Dry Scalp. I ran out of my normal conditioner, Charles Worthington & used something cheaper that I had on hand. Well the combo has totally killed my hair. It is now dry, brittle and frizzy as straw! I need some type of really deep conditioner. I'm willing to pay for a good one - if it really works. I thought of simply slathering on mayonnaise or heated olive oil for a while, but I don't want to smell like a salad later. :upsidedow :p

Second question: I finally got Lasik eye surgery 7 months ago. That means no more wearing glasses! :dance3:But my eyes are drier than normal, so I have to put in special eye drops several times a day, then rinse around the eye, as the drops leave a filmy residue. That means I haven't been able to wear mascara all this time to showcase off my newly naked eyes - unless I want to keep reapplying it several times a day. :(

. . .Well, actually, it means I haven't searched for a waterproof mascara in these past 7 months. I need one that is waterproof/waterresistant so the eyedrops don't dissolve it and it smears or runs or starts flaking into my eye, yet washes off easily later without using an oily eyemakeup remover. I'd prefer one I can just wash off plain soap & water (actually my Origins Mint wash cleanser & water.)

I have been able to successfully wear my Colorstay eyeliner. That stuff stays on like a Sharpie marker. :thumbsup2 Ilove the stuff. I didn't care for the Colorstay mascara though.

Suggestions please. :yay: :)

Deep Conditioner
- Biogenol Ultra Deep Masque deep conditioner / found here: http://www.biogenol.com/biogenol-ha...conditoner#framesi-biogenol-ultra-deep-masque

(ETA - I would really go with Biogenol's. It's honestly the best one on the market. It's loaded with protein, which is what dry hair needs. It's expensive, but lasts a long time)

Or Moroccan Oil's deep conditioner is wonderful, as well.

I would also start using Moroccan Oil every day. That stuff seems to have transformed my hair.

Water Resistant Mascara - I have to go with Too Faced, again. The stuff (IMO) is like glue. I love it. Ive always worn it to waterparks with no problems, as well as it staying put when my eyes are drooling from allergies.

Has anyone tried the elf line? Supp. Oprah says they are great. I just got an email from them today and they are really cheap. Anyone know if they are good at all or not?

Thanks Cat! :love2: I've been reading up on them. :surfweb:

Which Morrocan Oil are you talking about? The thicker one in the jar:

Or the liquid one in the bottle:

They sell E.L.F. at my dollar store. I've gotten various brushes there at different times. On ALL of them the metal part came off the wooden handles. Cheap glue. The bristles themselves are fine, but you'd have to reglue all the brushes.

The white eyeliner pencil is crap. Flaked off into my eyes. The lip glosses in the tubes were okay for a dollar. Haven't tried anything else.

I haven't, but I know it has been mentioned in a blog that I read. Something about makeup only cost $1-2 just doesn't appeal to me. Find it hard to believe it could be high quality ingredients. :confused3 I did look at their website and they do have some stuff that cost more so maybe that is higher quality.

Running low on some of my skin care products..........so I decided to try a set by Bare Escentuals online at Sephora. I hope this is a good set. I also got Bare Escentuals new matte foundation as a sample and it comes with a baby buki brush. I'm such a sucker for the free stuff. I'm not getting my free gift with 100 points though, I'm letting it build to 500 so I can get a full size product.

OK I'm going to answer one of my own questions. I have been trying to find out if people prefer Stila smudge pots or Smashbox eyeliner pots. IMO STILA!!!!!!!! I am on day 2 of my Stila smudge pots and I like it a lot better. It is easier to apply (which could be the brush) and it stays in place better.

LOL do you think you should go back and get a second set...especially after all you went through to get them? Ilike the Stila and have never tried the others. I am debating about getting a second set. I know they will last a long time but just one full size jar is 18 and b/c has them for 12...I don't know...talk me out of it guys. I just got my Philosophy order today but it was marred by the fact that I got a summons for jury duty in Sept:scared1:
Now I need a pick me up ...I supposed I could buy some Sephora considering I have my G/c.

Best place for MO is Cosmetic Magic. I am still trying to find the MO overnight treatment you got at the show.

Okay here is my take on cheap brushes and keep in mind it mignt not be right but I have to wonder. I saw a CSI where they determined the murderer by her wig. She had a wig made from corpse hair and it had some sort of mites in it that appear after death. Then I went on California Scents and read in more than a few reviews how some of their cheap brushes smelled like animal manure. It got me to thinking where to these people get the hair for the brushes...do they clean it, are there mites in it?....Now I am not SURE that the Mac and name brand brushes are any cleaner but I am hoping they have some standards. For all you guys know e.l.f. could be picking up road kill and sticking their hair in a ferrul(metal part of brush) and calling it a brush. Of course there is always the synthetic alternative. Then again my family calls me Debbie Downer...so don't go by me.:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl2: My family would just call it an over active imagination. :lmao: But, one does have to wonder how they can sell makeup/brushes for so cheap.

LOL - this is why I'm a strictly synthetic girl! That and I have read that for people with sensitive skin, the natural hair brushes (typically racoon) can open tiny scratches on your skin allowing bacteria to enter and cause acne and/or rashes. I'm just a little sceeved at the idea of rubbing a dead racoon on my face. Fun stuff!!!

Wow I never heard that about raccoon. Raccoons eat garbage. Do they catch wild raccons or do they breed them for brushes?:confused3:rotfl:
I love when they tell you it is a skunk brush...like is that supposed to ATTRACT me??? I love all the brushes I got from Mac and I try to distance myself from whence they came but occasionally I look and them and think.....is this from a horses as*. What exactly are the black soft bristles???
I found out recently that the white bristles on the Mac brushes are not synthetic like I thought....they are goat...smelly, smelly goat.

It is good to know I am not the only one who has these questions.:confused3
Debbie Downer strikes again...my other nick name is "killer of fun" just because I believe in handwashing before one eats(can you tell I live with all males) and wearing seat belts to name a few of my OUTLANDISH requests.

There is supposed to be cosmetic standards in place (in the U.S.) for anything that goes on the face. I don't know if if applies to brushes. But certain ingredients have to be "cosmetic grade" which means they filter (and wash) out impurities.

Maybe being an artist, I think of brushes differently. I see the same E.L.F. brushes on the rack all the time. They all look uniformly the same. So they are all cut & dyed the same. I assume they wash & ppurify them before they dye them. It's not like going to your local taxidermist (animal stuffer  ,) who does pick up road kill and makes things out of them, where they would all look different according to animals picked up. I'm assuming E.L.F. get's all their hairs from some animal farm or some place like that where they use some type of brush to gather the hair. :confused3 I use a Furminator brush on my cat and the amount of hair that comes off of her in one season is enough to make a pillow out of. :sad2:

As for the difference between natural hair & synthetic, there is a difference in the stiffness & absorption levels of how much liquid & pigment it picks up and lays down. An artist needs to play around with different haired brushes to find the right hair that will move, glide, drop & blend the paints or dyes on the paper just perfectly. :artist: Even with the exact same type of brush, the hairs of different animal can be quite different. An artist may have a favorite brush that does exactly the right thing and he may have spent $100 or luck out with a$10 brush. For oil painting, I was given a used "foliage brush" that is just perfectly scruffy. I creates the look of leaves on trees & bushes fabulously & I guard it with my life.

When I went to Sephora for a finishing powder brush, the woman handed me a $35 natural & synthetic blend brush. When I reached for the cheapie $12 synthetic brush instead and asked why I can't use that one, she said how the natural hair in the brushes would pick up oils in the powder and they synthetic hairs would blend them into my skin better. It made sense to me. For oil painting, we can only use natural hair brushes. For scrubbing in acrylic paints better, the stiffness & non-absorbent qualities of synthetic brushes work better. The different bristles give totally different effects.

LOL!! :rotfl2:

I've suffered from acne for ssoooooo long and then it finally cleared up. So what did I do? Well, I changed cosmetics companies. Dumb!! I started using BE together with dead animal brushes and bam, right back in high school. Blah! :rotfl:

Truthfully though, your body chemistry changes so often that it's nearly impossible to pinpoint exactly what started a sudden acne breakout. Hope you find a way to tackle it soon. :goodvibes

There is something called adult onset acne and it is related to rosacae(sp?). I had it a few years ago and it had to do with stress but anything can bring it on. I was kind of shocked because while I had breakouts when I was younger I never actually had acne.

I too am an artist and somehow I just cannot use a brush from say Triarco or Michaels on my face even though some make up people say it is okay.
