The Magical Recovery Do-Over Trip!!!! Day 2 added...finally!

Any photos of the hotel? xxx

I cannot believe how few photos we took of the hotel, we have a bit of video but not a lot of photos, I did take some, will try to upload them later. I completely forgot to take a photo of the swimming pool which is a shame as we had it all to ourselves for the first 15 minutes or so :headache: Honestly i'm a shambolic trip report planner!!! :rotfl2:

Enjoying your TR so far. Looking forward to the next bit.

Did you stay at the Travelodge at Ashford?

Hi ya, glad you're enjoying it, have added some more interesting photos (I hope!)

We stayed at the Holiday Inn in Ashford, was very nice and we got a great deal for £56.

Love the report, your DD is beautiful. princess:
I hope the holiday marked a turning point for you, after all you've been through, (I hadn't read your pretrippie before tonight) you certainly deserved to have a truly magical time.
You have reminded me that I need to scan the menu you very kindly sent me, I will get it done, mind you you've also reminded me that I haven't finished my last trippie, I'm hopeless.
Looking forward to Day 2 :thumbsup2

Great report so far, its the first time I have read the first part too.

I have to say I thought it was so cute and funny when you talked about the hotel in ashford and matilda slipping down the bed onto her bottom and sleeping upright- bless her!:lovestruc She's such a little cutie!

Can't wait to read and see more from your trip!:wizard:

Great report so far. I can't believe how much Matilda has grown:goodvibes

I cannot believe its been 4 months and I haven't finished this trip report...i'm so sorry!!!! All I can say is that 2009 was a bit of a mare for us and to be honest I kinda wanted to lay low until the end of the year to try and keep out of trouble!

I am going to finish this TR, its one of my new year's resolutions, it was resolution number two: Finish DLP TR, came just below my usual number one resolution: Lose weight ;)

Again, apologies for the delay! More to come...

You and your family certainly deserved a magical trip after everything you had gone through - Matilda is very brave, and I hope your sister is doing well now.

I cannot believe how grown up Matilda looks in those photos. And that photo you took when she wakes to see her Minnie balloon - wowsers, what a great shot! She looks so happy. :goodvibes

Glad everything went smoothly on the Eurostar, we enjoyed it to, and found it a really easy way to travel.

Glad you are back on track to finish your report though, am looking forward to it. Jack is going to be 25 months when we go again next month, so I am keen to see what Matilda particularly enjoyed, and to pick up some tips. So come on, what are you waitin for...?!!:surfweb:

We got up late which was a nice treat this holiday - Matilda is usually up by 6.30-7am so we were not going to wake her up just to get to the parks early! Plus the room was so comfy we really enjoyed being there :goodvibes

Here are some photos of our room:

Tilda seems to only appreciate telly if its 2 inches away :rotfl:

We went downstairs for brekkie but the queues were huge and we were all hungry so I suggested trying Cafe Mickey. We had a very nice breakfast there, its served buffet style and the character interaction was good although Tilda wasn't really 'in the mood' for characters that morning :lmao:

Again, not fussed with characters...

Tilda and the big guy!
DisParisOct2009128.jpg

Thefood was typical breakfast food and very plentiful, eggs, sausages, bacon, smoked salmon, the most DELICIOUS garlicky potatoes i've ever had (God bless the French for being brave enough to serve garlic at breakfast :rotfl: )hams, cheeses, cereals, assortment of pastries etc

DisParisOct2009127.jpg

I love the Mickey hand!

Tilda had hardly anything for breakfast, we thought perhaps it was because she was a bit overwhelmed with everything but she was happy with her milk which we got at the restaurant and we filled up another bottle for her for later.

Continued on next post...sorry for huge photos, no idea how to shrink them. And apologies for any typos, had surgery this week on my left hand so am typing one handed.

I like the big photos I can see them better (how do you stop getting old? LOL)

Enjoying the trip report. I like ones with kids around my kids ages, it is good to see how each child is different.

Thanks for writing even with a sore hand :goodvibes Hope that gets better soon.

Kirsten

Ooooo, you've done some more, even with your poorly hand! Breakfast looks yummy, looking forward to the next bit. x

I just spent three hours doing my TR and the website lost it when I had to re-log in....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr, I am not impressed

Will have to try another day, have lost the will now...sigh

Oh no, what a nightmare! Thanks for posting so far - loved your comment about garlic for breakfast - those potatoes looked yummy!!

Oh my goodness, what a terrible 2009 you've had. I hope 2010 will be good to you.

Loving your TR so far and don't worry about taking so long ~ I still have only done a couple of days of our Summer 2008 one :scared1: however I am DETERMINED to finish it.

Have totally loved reading your trip report so far, i am feeling so excited about our 1st trip now, you paint a very vivid picture of what it will be like for us....looking forward to seeing/hearing more! :thumbsup2

OK, the TR that never seems to finish is now underway again...must must must finish this!!! :lmao:

After breakfast we walked over to Starbucks for a proper caffeine fix - the coffee at Cafe Mickey was the machine stuff, yuk! We also had a wander round the shops just for a bit and started making our way over to the Studios when Phil spotted this billboard:

DisParisOct2009099.jpg

It made us laugh because of my friend Verity who I should add is not in the least bit abominable, she's lovely :) But Phil thought the poster was funny and that she'd find it funny. I hope you find funny hon :rotfl:

I love going to the Studios, I actually prefer the DLP one to WDW because its smaller and just seems more charming to me. I love the entrance and the whole Hollywood feel of it. Here's Phil at those fabulous gates:

DisParisOct2009153.jpg

It wasn't busy at all when we got there so we thought we'd go straight in and do something fun for Matilda so we headed for Playhouse Disney. We got there just in time, an English show was about to start so we quickly parked the pushchair and jogged in before they shut the doors. Matilda was really good waiting for the screens to come on giving us instructions on what to do next. Suddenly Stitch appears on the screen and Phil says 'I didn't know Stitch was on Playhouse Disney' Um...that's because he's not. I whispered to him 'we're in the wrong show'!!!

Luckily there was a huge family in front of us who had made the same mistake and were quite vocal about it so we didn't feel so stupid. They decided to leave but we thought as we were already there we might as well watch the show. Am so glad we did, Tilda sat through the whole thing and we really loved it, it was really funny and the interaction with the audience was quite clever!

Afterwards we had another coffee break - yup, we drink a lot of coffee -Matilda fell asleep so we couldn't do the Tram Tour as we had planned so Phil went off to do RnR while I waited with her. After the RnR we decided to leave the Studios and walk over to the Disneyland Hotel as it was after 1pm now so I could clearly have a wee drink :) I had been dying to try a Glowtini as they look so cool in photos. I am not much a drinker, I probably only drink 10 cocktails/wine etc a year, and most of these seem to be when i'm at DLP

We headed for the Fantasia bar and we got our drinks - the Glowtini was ok, very very strong and too sweet so I didn't finish it but I loved the glowing cube, wish i'd taken it, didn't know I could so I left it in there. The bar was lovely and very relaxed but the staff were very surly, I wasn't impressed at all.

Now i'll probably upset some people here who love the Disneyland Hotel so be warned i'm going to say something slightly uncomplimentary about it...NOW ;) The hotel absolutely stinks...the smell of potpourri or floral incense or whatever the heck they use to scent the place was just horrible and cheap, it was actually starting to make me nauseous...and it was relentless, it was everywhere you went! Do they pipe this stuff through the air con? All joking aside I really hated it and could not wait to get out of there. Phil took some quick photos of the beautiful lobby and I practically ran out and into the Disneyland park! Lovely hotel, could never in a million years stay there unless they get rid of that smell.

We went into the Park and decided we wanted to ride the train. This is something we love doing, we have lovely memories of riding the train at WDW too, something fun and relaxing to do. We had a wait of about 15 minutes but finally were able to board.

Here's our lovely train arriving before the carnage:

DisParisOct2009192.jpg

Matilda was on Phil's knee and was happily enjoying the ride. We were getting off at Fantasyland to go on It's a Small World...again... We were stopped at Frontierland waiting for people to get on board when Matilda asked for milk. So we gave her her bottle.

The rest kind of seems a blur but basically this was the gist of the next 15 minutes. Train went off towards Fantasyland. Matilda vomited on Phil. Matilda cried and coughed a bit. Matilda vomited AGAIN on Phil, this time it was projectile. The whole carriage had vomit on the floor, on Phil, on her. The old couple next to us and their granddaughter climbed over the carriage to get into the next one. I mean, I know its not a pretty sight but none was on them and it wasn't kryptonite but I guess some people can't handle the smell. As a side note I was impressed that people that age could climb like that ;)

When we arrived at Fantasyland the CM's were obviously not ecstatic to see us but they were kind and understanding and worked really quickly. I offered to clean it up myself but they were insistent they would do it themselves. We had a train full of people glaring at us which made me really mad and I started glaring back because my poor little girl was obviously not well and no one on the train seemed to care a hoot. Phil had to actually remind me that our daughter needed to be changed etc so it might be a good idea to stop giving back 'evils' to everyone on the train :rotfl: Poor Matilda just seemed so upset and confused about everything. I quickly changed and washed her but Phil had to go back to the HNY to change.

We agreed to meet up in front of the Plaza Gardens in half an hour. I gave Phil our room number and off he went.

Matilda and I walked around for a bit, she was happy in her pushchair but wanting her blanket which Phil took with him as it was dirty. So I did what any mother would do in these circumstances with a poorly unhappy child at DLP - I bought her anything that made her smile :yay: If I picked it up and she smiled I bought it. Luckily not a lot made her smile and she was a bit too young to cotton on to what I was doing! She got a big Daisy doll which she instantly cuddled and kept with her at all times, a baby Stitch doll, a bag full of Mickey plastic characters and a hat. The rest of the items she rejected :cutie:

She sipped a bit of bottled water and that seemed to settle her tummy a bit, along with the Calpol. We sat down on a bench about 5 minutes before Phil was meant to meet us there and we waited. And waited. And waited. 40 minutes later we see Phil walking up the path not looking incredibly pleased with me. Apparently (this is quite funny...he can almost laugh about it now) I gave him the wrong room number and he was on the wrong floor and tried going into a room with a woman in it, even tried to get a cleaner to open the door for him :rotfl: Eventually when he realised it wasn't our room and the woman who was in the room seemed bemused at his persistent attempts to get in, he had to go back to reception and get our room number. So he was not impressed with me and it didn't help that I was hysterical and crying with laughter :lmao:

Phil was hungry so we decided on having an early dinner at the Plaza Gardens. We ate here last time and thought it was really good value for money, nice food and great service. Our server was fab, brought me my free AP drink and was very playful and attentive with Matilda. She obviously had rid herself on the train of whatever was bugging her so she seemed happier and hungry which is unusual for her. She had a bowl of vegetable soup and a few chicken nuggets plus some of Phil's dessert so we were very happy. And it stayed down too, woo hoo! Our server gave us free coffee's at the end of the meal as well which was nice, at least I think they were free, I don't think drinks are included with the price of the meal.

After dinner we walked for a bit around Discoveryland. We were going to ride Buzz but the CM was so rude to Phil that he actually made him raise his voice which he never does so we just walked away. That was the only bad CM we had the whole trip. No idea what her problem was. :confused3 We popped into Videopolis as we'd missed it last time. We sat down on the benches and watched the old Mickey movies. Matilda LOVED them, she giggled and laughed and it was a special moment for all of us and a nice quiet place to rest and relax. We then went to watch the parade. Tilda fell asleep again so missed the entire show. Honestly we could have gone to Butlins and she wouldn't have known the difference ;) I loved the parades, shed my obligatory tears when the princesses roll out (i'm a saddo I know!). We then walked back to the hotel and called it an early night.

On the way to the hotel we bumped into Robyn and Robert who were on their way to the California Grill for dinner, lucky!! Was lovely meeting them both. :goodvibes

So it was quite a day, a few ups and downs but mainly all I remember are the special things...and Phil on the wrong floor :rotfl2:

Day 3 coming this week I hope!

I just realised that before we called it an early night we did stop off at the bar at the hotel new york to try it out. It was ok, Matilda liked the big comfy chairs and spent her time playing with her plastic characters and saying her favourite new word 'NO':cool1:

It was a nice layout and I liked the look of it but I wasn't really that keen on it for two reasons. One, I asked for a dirty martini and they didn't know how to make one - so I explained but they still couldn't do it:confused3 Never mind, I had a gin and tonic...and the second reason was that we were the only 'tourists' in there, everyone else was wearing business suits etc from the huge conference that was going on at the time so it kinda took away from the feeling of being on holiday and we felt a bit underdressed!

We popped into the shop for more milk and some snacks and drinks for later and then we called it an early night!

Next is Day 3...a happy day with no sickness

Brilliant!!! :lmao: That's exactly the sort of thing I'd do!!! Serves him right for not knowing the room number himself eh?!! ;) Our DD was also sick when we went to DLP - she was sick over the table in Cape Cod restaurant - nice!

Loving your TR! :flower3:

Love the photo..... I think! Hee hee!

Sorry Phil, I had to laugh at the trippie, wrong room, smelly clothes...oops!
Evie had a projectile vomiting incident at DLP as well!! But all over me!
Really enjoyed this part of the trip, though can't believe you left the ice cube!!
Eagerly awaiting the next part.
