I remember when I first went to WDW in 1996 that the Magic Kingdom was all ready for the 25 Years Celebration. The castle was all ready for the party, and was a giant birthday cake. I loved it!

I noticed that a ton of people say how ugly it was. Am I the only one in the world who liked the cake?

I thought it was pretty, but I didn't get to see it firsthand. My dd and I saw pics of it and we both liked it.:)

I love everything at WDW - and thought the Birthday Cake Castle was beautiful! I am amazed at how the Imagineers can even do something like that!

Every trip to WDW, we blow up and frame at least a couple of our best photos, and the "Cake" is in this display.

I LOVED it! :Pinkbounc I bought the figurine of it as well. :D

It was wild, bright and very gaudy..........

and I'm among the few that loved it! LOL

I was also lucky enough to get to see the "cake" twice, the second time, they were readying it to be re-transformed back into it's usual beautiful self.

I definitely didnt hate it like a lot of people did. I also never saw it in person though. From the pictures Ive seen I thought it was a cool idea, and looked good. I wouldnt want it to stay that way forever, but I did like it.

I also got to see it first hand twice! It was a cool idea and I would have been happy to see it only once. I was happy when it went back to the regular castle.

I didn't hate it but I did think it was a bit tacky. I didn't see the problem though for just one year. Hey, it's was no worse than that unsightly addition they added to Spaceship Earth :o

Yikes!! I like the addition to Spaceship Earth too! :p

The castle was a cake for two or three of our trips. I thought it was a cute idea, but I was glad when it returned to normal! I do like the addition to Spaceship Earth though.

We liked it. It was DD's first trip so I was happy the following year when she got to see the actual castle.

We thought it was cool - for the one year. I was glad when it was back to normal.

:D

I didn't get to see the cake in person, just in pictures. I didn't like it. But it may have been a different story if I saw it LIVE!!

I'm probably going to be caught up in the midst of a game of dodge ball but I was one of the folks that hated it. I saw pics and thought it looked neat but when I saw it up close and personal, I couldn't help but think of Tums and Peptobismal. Yeesh.
It didn't irritate me as much as others though because I saw the light at the end of the tunnel and understood it was temporary. Others apparently only saw it as a travesty and "How dare Disney do THAT?"

I thought it was cool. It will always have a special place in our hearts because it was that way for our wedding and 1st anniversary. I was glad when it returned to normal but I liked it for how long they had it.

We saw it as a cake...and like it...but only for a year!!!!

I didn't hate it either - thought it was kind of neat.

BUT, we make frequent trips to WDW. I think that what was disturbing to so many people was the consideration of those making a "once in a lifetime trip" and THAT being the way the castle looked for their visit. NOT the way it is supposed to look.

We saw it in person and liked it. I think it was a great way to celebrate the 25 years. I'm glad it was just for the one year as I love the regular castle. We've got small models of both of them.

Wonder what they'll do for the 50th!

I liked it. Thought it was fun.

We told DS who turned 5 on our trip they did it for him.

Well...LOL, I had walked into the MK in August of 96, completely unaware of the plan....looked down Main Street at the beloved Castle and saw cranes.... and one or two towers almost completely painted hot pink  I think it was the shock and suprise of that vision, that completely killed any chances of my ever liking the finished 'product' :p When I returned in May of 1997 and saw the completed 'cake' all I could do was  and keep telling myself it was only temporary :o ;)
