Just to let those of you know, that are not on FB, that Margaret-Dis Name: Magic123 (Norman's wife) has posted, that Norman has succumbed to his illness. Norman was one of those larger than life characters who won't be with us in person on the WBTA 2014, however I am sure he will be there in spirit. I for one will miss the big guy, a day on Jost Van Dyke just won't be the same without the Budgie Smugglers. Our thoughts are with Margaret and his family.

Rest In Peace - Norman

Yes, Norman will be sorely missed on the cruise. I'm so bummed right now ... why don't you cheer me up with the story behind the Budgie Smugglers, I know it's got to be funny ...

I guess I forgot my whole introduction...
I'm Lauren and will be cruising with DH James, DD Lorelei 5 at that time, DS Jameson who will turn 2 on this cruise. So excited to do the WBTA again. We did the one in 2011 and had a blast. We're getting ready to leave this weekend for the Panama Canal cruise. I'm very excited to start planning this when we get back. Can't believe how fast this thread is moving!
Welcome aboard Lauren & family.. :wave2:

He provided so many laughs for us on WBTA 2011! Great man. Last night at dinner, hubby and I each grabbed a certain white/blue plastic cup for our beverage out of all the cups we have. Granted, mine was only CranCherry and Malibu, but I could just taste the painkiller and smile to remember Norm. :goodvibes

Just to say Norman and I liked the idea of the painkillers drink from the Soggy Dollar bar and "Mandygirl" organised a great trip to Jost Van Dyke from Tortola during the WBTA 2011. Well we gathered in the morning and have a nice smooth crossing to one of the best beaches in the world, it really is.

That said I dont think that was on Tony's (TotallyAngelic's Husband), Norman's or my mind, we just wanted the bar. I was halfway through a the first round of painkillers when Norman showed up in a pair of skin tight swimming shorts that must have been "vintage 1975" and bought at a time Norman was much thinner, which are often refered to as "Budgie Smugglers" (if you think about it you will realise why, it looked as if a pair of budgies were trying to get out) I couldn't stop laughing, such a big man in so little shorts. Anyway the day went on, Tony,Norman and I got well drunk and we had to swim back to the boat. I remember getting in the water, however my arms and legs were no longer in touch with what the brain wanted them to do, they just wouldn't work. Thanks to "encouragement" from my drunken friends I made it to the front of the catamaran,it took 10 mins for 50 meters "swimming". Norman then gets more drink, beer I think, variety being the spice of life, this time just what we needed on top of some 15 plus painkilliers. I don't really remember much else for the next 14 hours, however with the company of my friends I shared some fun with my well dressed friend when neither of us felt any pain, and that was great for us both.

I missed Palo that night, my wife went with friends instead, it must have been the sun stroke:rotfl2:

Thanks for sharing that Stevie ... lol ... that was quite the visual :rotfl2:

ETA: I guess "budgie smugglers" is an Australian term .. who knew! Nobody ever mentioned the term to me in the polite circles I ran in Down Under :angel: :lmao:

We had the privilege of being their table mates on the 2011 (with Karen and Ed). He was a sweetheart and he and Margaret were adorable together. Our hearts are broken for her. :sad1:

Welcome aboard. Which cruise were you on on the Fantasy in Dec?

Hi Lauren :wave2:...nice to "see" you again. Congrats on the new guy; I'm sure he's as adorable as Lorelei (what a cutey!).
Enjoy the PC :cool1:...we did it in Dec. and found it to be our favorite cruise to date.

Thanks Stephen, we needed a laugh :lmao::lmao::lmao:! I haven't been able to stop thinking about how horrible this loss is for Margaret and their children, even though I didn't get to know Norman on the WBTA. Now, thanks to you, I have a whole different vision of him in my head (not necessarily one he would have chosen to be remembered for :goodvibes ) and will smile every time I think of them. I can only imagine the stories that Margaret has to tell!

I know a part of the story and saw the photo's. But how you tell it, made me smile. I have good memories of Norman, we will all miss him.

Hello everyone

and it seem quiet here...

hope you all have a lovely weekend...

my boss told me that it should be okay for this cruise for my time off...:thumbsup2

 Hello back!

Glad to hear your boss said the time off should be good. :goodvibes

I'm starting a new ASL class on Monday, this time online. For any in-person classes I always had to travel an hour or so to get there and many times the classes sort of fizzled out. Hope this one works out. It's a site that has been around for awhile so that's good. Although BSL and ASL are different, hopefully we can sign some to each other by the time the cruise comes around.

It's been very wet here in Central Florida! It's rained pretty much every day for the last week. I keep checking to see if I'm molding....

As far as the cruise, I'm now waiting for airfares to come out so I can really start the planning as to when and where to start this journey! Hoping to start in Paris. :)

Poohbear926-Lindsay, Mickeymom923- Bev.. Not sure yet if the husbands are going.

After seeing the enhancements coming to the Magic with the drydock this year I couldn't not go. Did the 2011 EBTA... now its time to get the flight out of the way first. All booked on DVC points.

Doing three pre-nights in Dublin, then down to Barcelona. Then going to spend some extra time in Puerto Rico.

Do we have a Facebook group yet?

Hi! We've been toying with booking this cruise when on the ship in June. But the announcement of the upgrades might mean a price rise so we've booked!! Well, I've booked one of our rooms for DH and our three boys who will be 12, 14 & 16 at the time of sailing. DD needs a HA room and there is only concierge available so we're going to sit and wait. We'll book that in June to get the OBC if we have to.

This looks like a really active group, so just waving hi :wave2: and subbing in. We're preempting the post holiday blues after June! Still busy planning that one, but it feels great to have another in the works for next year!!

Decided to finally book this cruise and hopefully meet up with some old friends. Couldn't pass up the refurbed magic before its price skyrockets either.

Could you please add us to the list of cruisers. This is our first Disney cruise and my first experience with a discussion board so not really sure what I'm doing! Following what I see as what other people list, I would say "Ruth and DH Dave". Is that what you need?

It's been very wet here in Central Florida! It's rained pretty much every day for the last week. I keep checking to see if I'm molding....

As far as the cruise, I'm now waiting for airfares to come out so I can really start the planning as to when and where to start this journey! Hoping to start in Paris. :)

Hi

I wonder how you get on with ASL class on Monday? yes BSL is slight different as sign with two hands and ASL Sign with one hand for names, place... but for sign languages can be similar ... We met ASL an interpreter on Disney cruise and we exchanged our sign languages. It was fun.

Now Ian teach me ASL for my names etc for this July cruise as there will be 300 deaf people from USA, Australia, Canada, Ireland...:eek: I am glad that I have balcony as I might need it for time out :)

Poor your wife went to Palo with friend:angel:

Something you will never forget about it and that will make you laugh about it and sometime sad too...

Deborah,

We had dinner for 6 planned at Palo that night .... 3 of my Jost Van Dyke beach buddies were supposed to come too, including DH, but sadly the "sunstroke" got the better of them and they had to retire for the afternoon/evening. Lucky for me, Claire and Lee (Pinky166) had not succumbed to the Painkillers and said they wouldn't mind me joining them for dinner, so it was a cozy Palo dinner for 3 :)

It did cost him a pair of Jimmy Choos (as suggested by Steamboat Will) :rotfl:

Hello everyone

hope you all have a lovely weekend...

my boss told me that it should be okay for this cruise for my time off...:thumbsup2
