DH and I have done one PC cruise and would love to do another.
I can't help but smile everytime I think of the moment the tour ship pulled up to the side of the lock. Everyone on board rushed to the side of the boat, so they could touch the brick wall. I got so involved in taking pics that I never thought of touching the wall myself.
Then, taking pics and videos as we're rising......just so much fun and so amazing.
It was about two years ago and they were still working on the third lock, which will accommodate the bigger ships,so we'd love to go back and use that new third lock. A true trip of a lifetime!!!!!:woohoo:

This will be my second TA. I've done 3 PC. The PC, for me, was the trip of a lifetime - through the canal is up close and personal with one of the wonders of the world, plus my first time to South America.

The TA, for me is a close second. I LOVE Barcelona, and the long string of sea days. I think you should do both, at some point.

Ditto!this was our second PC. Absolutely recommend that if you have the opportunity to do, take it

Woohoo!!! We are going on that cruise in 103 days! Hard to believe anything can top our WBTA in 2011, but I'll be curious to find out!!!

I'm now booked - I have just returned from the EBTA 2013 crossing and booked whilst on-board.

There seem to be so many WBTA2014 sites, facebook group etc, it's hard to work out which one to use :confused3:confused3:confused3

I deliberately didn't sign up here until I had the booking confirmation in hand, but at least I have a fair amount of time left to try to catch up with everything.

Welcome aboard :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 It is confusing with lots of different social media, but I tend to stick to this DIS thread for all the cruise info and chat, and pop onto the main FB group aswell when I am on FB anyhow. That is enough for me to keep up with.

I agree, I am not a big Facebook user, keep getting notifications and try read them but don't get the point when there is a thread here. I can only assume others find it easier to use than I do.

I post on here and Dibb as I know a few members on both although I can't get much enthusiasm for posting on either about somthing thats 16 months away, I have 3-4 vacations to plan before this cruise so its on the back burner for me til next year.

Officially - WELCOME!!

I do check the FB post regularly since I am on FB keeping up with the family but I do miss the chatter on the DIS. We hit 10 threads before our 2010 WBTA but at this point I don't see coming close to that since so much daily information (on peoples day to day lives) goes on FB. You get the cruise info here but you don't get the regular chatter you used to get prior to FB. I do think it will pick up especially once we pass the one year mark and then after the holidays!

I think things will definitely pick up when 2014 arrives. So many people have lots of trips planned ahead of this one so it is difficult to get involved this far out. FB has taken a lot of the chatter away from this type of message board, as it is quicker and easier, but hopefully as we move closer this thread will pick up a bit as the excitement builds . :goodvibes:goodvibes

Been home from our WBPC for 2 weeks and am going through major DCL withdrawal! Really need to start focusing on this one now.

Same here! At first after arriving back from the WPBC, the withdrawal wasn't even that bad ... But yesterday I started looking at other peoples' trip reports from that cruise, and now I'm in major "I want to go back to the ship because nothing else in my life is fun" mode :sad2:. I know that's nonsense, especially because I have the WBTA to look forward to ... but that's still so far away! :sad2:

How was the experience of going through the Panama Canal? And other than that, what are the highlights of a PC cruise versus a TA cruise? Trying to decide which one to go on... THanks in advance!

Can't compare to a TA as I haven't done one yet, but ... The day at the canal was SO amazing! I never thought it would be so cool. I did a little "homework" prior to the cruise and read "The Path Between The Seas" which is a little dry at times but was great preparation, because I recognized the things I saw. It truly is one of the wonders of the world ... I wish we could do it all over again.

Yes, trip of a lifetime is right! But I am really looking forward to the TA, too. DH is a bit worried that he will get bored on so many consecutive sea days "without the Panama Canal", but I don't think he will. After all, the PC had just as many sea days - and while they were broken up by Panama Canal day, all our shore excursions were really only half days. I guess we will spend much more time in port on the TA.
Oh, and I will definitely buy DH an e-book reader before then! I had packed about 1800 pages of sci-fi books for him, and I was constantly nervous that he would finish them too soon and be bored :scared:. (He finished the last one on the flight home, by the way, so everything worked perfectly ;))

I also have my "magical moment" about the Panama Canal which I'd like to share ... This was the night before the canal crossing. We arrived at the breakwater after darkness that evening, and there were so many lights in the distance, the canal, the sea port of Cristobal, the many other ships waiting for their turn to enter the canal ...

We were walking around deck 10 to look at everything, speculating which way was which. There was live music playing at both Goofy and Quiet Cove Pools downstairs which we heard when passing by, and the cruise director was also up on the deck and helped me get oriented by pointing out which was Cristobal and which was the canal entrance.

It was warm and humid, and the air was so full of anticipation it was almost tangible. Sometime during the night, we were woken by a loud announcement in the stateroom - not something you usually get and not really something you imagine you would like, but this told us that the ship was currently being refueled for the canal crossing tomorrow. That built the excitement even more, and I snuggled back into my pillow to get some more sleep before my 4.45 alarm time, and was as happy as a kid waiting for Christmas morning. I loved it!

I am 99.9% sure WE ARE IN!!!

Just off the incredible EBTA with many familiar names/faces here. And wow, a lot of people already committed to this one (and lots to read to catch up!)

We rebooked WBPC at 20% off onboard, but I can't stop thinking about cruising (it's my favorite vacation, because the lack of connectivity makes me truly free from work...and well, I just like it!) DH and I want to take my Dad and Stepmom (my Mom and Stepdad were with us on EBTA), and we just need to confirm with them once we get home. We are still in Barcelona for a few more days -- which has been FABULOUS, btw!

We will definitely do FE and SM (is there SM?), but won't email yet -- will wait until we are officially booked. I have justified it in my mind, because even though the boys will miss three weeks of school again, it will be a new school year so ROCK ON! haha

See you when we book! :wave2:

Hey all :) me and my other half have booked this one too yay. We are first time cruisers so lots of research needed :)

:welcome: You picked a good one for a first cruise! We had no interest in cruising, then we took a 4-day DCL cruise and were hooked. We did the 2011 WBTA and had a blast! Can't wait for this one.

Feel free to ask any questions you have. You've got a lot of TA veterans here who are more than happy to share their knowledge with you.

Welcome aboard to all the new cruisers. :wave2:

I do recognise a few familiar names from another forum :goodvibes

Hey everyone! We just booked this cruise today!!
We are really excited. Our daughter will be 5 at the time of the cruise, so we are hoping there will be some other kids her age she can be friends with! Would love to connect before cruise time with more people and have some friends when we arrive in Barcelona from Norway.

Our details- We are a little family of 3. Kathryn, Christopher and Zoe (4).

Requested to join the Facebook page, but haven't been accepted yet!

Looking forward to getting to know everyone!

Hi all, I've been so busy lately I haven't been on here much. I have just finished packing and am off to Barcelona tomorrow for our Med cruise on Saturday. :)

Welcome to all new cruisers, I will update the roll call when I get back. I have a few PM's this week that I haven't replied to yet so I will also deal with those when I get back.

Take care all, catch up soon.

Any chance we can join the fun?

Me, DW and DS-to-be (due date of October 13th) have just booked to go on the WBTA!

Needless to say, we're a little excited and would love to speak to some other guys that are going as well. :)

You've come to the right place, we love to talk cruising :)

TA cruising is addicting isn't. You'll like the extra hours on a WBTA :)

Feel free to ask any questions, we'll do our best to help you. When I was researching for our first TA, Sarah's trip report was very helpful to me. Although our ports are a little different this time, it's still a good read

:welcome: I love the name "Zoe." Don't take this the wrong way, but I had a Norwegian Elkhound that I named Zoe. She was an awesome dog. I found out later that the name means "life." Appropriate, as she was a shelter dog. It's a beautiful name!

Anyway, feel free to ask any questions you might have here. There are a few people with kids who have booked, so I'm sure your daughter will find some friends.
