The MAGIC is Back!!! - 6th Sept 2014 WBTA - Come & join the fun! - PART 2

Palo Private Room Brunch Groups (DIS groups, post #8 in this thread):

Please remember that per our final confirmation from DCL in July, this was printed for each group:
- Please bill each Guests.
- Please be advised that Guests will NOT received any invitation or notice in their stateroom.

Please make sure your date is written down somewhere safe and I would suggest trading room numbers with your group so that if someone is late you can contact them on the wave phone. Also if you had a same-day brunch already booked on your own, please remember that needs to be cancelled ASAP. Our group "private room" brunch does not show up in your confirmation online but does on mine as event coordinator since a private event. I have the hardcopy of final list from DCL already packed :) Posted the names over a month ago on post #8 (quoted below)

For those trying to secure individual brunch reservations that did not partake in the groups we coordinated on here, if none are available online please go to dining services on embarkation day (see location in Navigator). You will be able to add your name and party size to a wait list there. I tried keeping brunch groups posted and updated here since February 2013 but learned not everyone saw the posts to join.

We leave for our flight across the big pond in less than 24 hours and will mostly be OFFline these next three weeks until embarkation on DCL Magic. DCL finalized our brunch requests July 11 and no changes changes can be made. (Should something happen and you are ill the day of brunch, your cabin is already charged, but thinking "outside the box" you could possibly get someone to go in your place and you make repayment arrangements separately...) You will need to let them know your name and that you are in the Private Room group upon checking in at Palo.

I think that should answer any unforeseen questions I hope!! :) See you all at the Promenade Lounge Meet-and-Greet at 3:00 on embarkation day!!! :cool1:

Palo Group Brunch

Update July 11:

Email confirmation received from DCL Special Events. Palo brunch groups approved. You WILL be billed even if a no-show (onboard account) and you will NOT receive an invitation in your stateroom so mark your calendar, iPhone alarm, etc NOW! At least we fall back an hour... don't oversleep!

I re-typed names since the PDF file I received showed room numbers and last names. Each room number separate by a comma and I am using the name on the reservation in case someone needs to get in touch with a late-comer - at least you have the "correct" first name they can search for. No last names shown for privacy purposes below.

If you reserved brunch on your own online for the same day, please please please go delete it now as you are in the PRIVATE ROOM!! :cool1: This reservation below will NOT show up in your online reservations as it is a private event, but I have the PDF of the confirmation of all 8 groups, legal names, and stateroom numbers from DCL. (If you are currently holding a table for 2 the same day as Private Room, delete your table for 2 or move it to a different day if you want a second brunch; can not cancel from private room as you will be billed automatically now) IF I understood her correctly - just have to delete "same day" brunch reservation. If I am mistaken, I am sure DCL will delete any extra brunch reservations as in the past. Just please make sure you are NOT booked at a normal brunch table on the same day as your private reservation below - that will save DCL a step when doing the double-check. We appreciate all the group functions department has done for us on these longer cruises, so let's make sure to all help them out and save that step to delete if needed!

And for those who asked, my favorite fruity adult beverage is anything with malibu and my favorite wine is a sweet red. ;)

I believe they must have cancelled the cruise and not notified event organizers. They are *not* in Group 8 Palo Brunch any longer - final count is twelve as denoted above.

We leave for our flight across the big pond in less than 24 hours and will mostly be OFFline these next three weeks until embarkation on DCL Magic.

SO EXCITING that someone from the group is beginning their adventure!!!! Safe travels, have a great time and SEE YOU ON THE MAGIC!!!! :yay:

Hi MandyGirl,

Thanks, thanks, thanks for organising this event. Everyone will enjoy their Palo brunch.
Have a great vacation, enjoy and see you in three weeks.:dance3:

Thinking about packing -- what are the guys in the group planning to wear on formal and semi formal nights? I am going with cocktail type dresses for formal nights and sort of garden party/wedding-ish for semi formal. We don't really know what to go for for John though -- he doesn't want to look out of place either over or under dressed. We have never cruised before so it is difficult to know where to pitch it! What are other men going with this trip?

Some cruise lines you will see a lot of people in Tuxes, some cruise lines you will see a lot of people in polo shirts - Disney is in the middle. I dress my boys in a suit because they seem to like dressing up like that on the cruise, but if my husband was with us I would just have him wear a button down shirt and tie - I don't think I could get him to wear a dinner jacket. Officially on DCL it is optional so maybe bring it and then if he can decide if he feels better with or without it.

What I'd say too is because of weight limits you will find people are a lot less formal on this cruise than on other cruises. Most people find packing with flight weight limits is difficult and therefore things like full tuxes get left behind. I've got a long purple dress and a shrug I'm going to wear

Does anyone else have a 10.5 year old that they are going to try and get in the Edge (as well as the Lab)?

Also, I haven't heard that the Hard Rock is a definite Friday night, so just want to confirm the Promenade Lounge at 2:45? Is that where we are doing lanyards and pins? I think we'll all have to be to muster stations by 3:30 though..

I think earliest port arrival was showing at 11:00 and so I assume it opens around 10:30/11ish. I got 11:30 as my arrival time

The meet I thought was at 3pm. We have to be at muster stations at 4pm and yes that's where the lanyards and pins are being given out. I assume if we don't get through them all they will also be given out at the sailaway?

Does anyone know what time the Barcelona terminal opens and check-in begins?

From previous experience last June the Barcelona Port Terminal was already open when we arrived at 10.30am and I think I read a TA report that it opens at 10am. We had an 11am check in but did it as soon as we arrived.

The Hard Rock is Friday evening and I think the meet time is between 6 - 7pm as some people have dinner bookings and fountain views to get to later.

The Meet and Greet is 2.45 for children and 3pm for Grownups to collect lanyards and pins with the muster drill usually around 4pm.

The information is correct to best of my knowledge.

See you all soon!

We will been at the Hardrock Cafe and at the meeting on the ship. Where you can collect the lanyards and pins.

Connie

LindaBabe, Are you attending the meet and greet at the Hard Rock Cafe?? maybe we can unofficially plan something there??? Beverly
Yes, Beverly, we'll be there. And I think Michael said we could also attend the military meet.

Prices for Taxis from Barcelona Airport

It is important to remember that there is a minimum charge on taxis from the airport of €20.00 . This must be paid regardless of the length of the journey.

The supplement on the taxis fare from the airport is €4.20 , the rate per km after this costs: €1.03 / km (from 08:00 - 20:00) and €1.30 / km (from 20:00 - 08:00). These are the rates when the journey is to a destination inside the Barcelona metropolitan area.

Expect to pay around €25.00 for the journey into the centre from T2 and €30.00 for your journey from T1.

If you end destination is outside of Barcelona Metropolitan area the taxi rates are higher per kilometre. It would be best to confirm with the taxi driver approximately how much the taxi fee would be. You will also need to cover the cost for any tolls passed through however there are no tolls between Barcelona Airport and Barcelona city centre.

It is worth noting that there may be extra supplementary charges for holidays and late nights.

The Barcelona Taxi Van which I am using will charge you a flat rate and meet you in the baggage claim area with your name on a sign. Having the hotel address is a good idea although I have given the company that when I made the arrangements.

I just got a DCL popup for Halloween at Sea. I think the WBTA is something like 5 days too soon to qualify, but I'm just wondering if they will be doing anything Halloween related on our cruise.

(I know that September is way early to be trick-or-treating, but now I understand the families who do not-so-scary in Sept.)

My recollection of WBTA 2011 is that we did NOT have anything Halloween related.

Also, has anyone stayed at the Olivia Plaza Hotel? We're staying there and it looks amazing, rated well, perfect location, but the fact that they had availability when I know some other hotels were sold out makes me wonder if I just got really lucky. :D

Did you check the reviews on trip advisor? It ranks 59/519 which seems pretty good to me.

Is the meet at Hard Rock just a meet up outside the restaurant or will we be inside? Just wondering if I need to make a reservation for us for dinner. Either way can't wait to meet y'all.
Melissa

My recollection of WBTA 2011 is that we did NOT have anything Halloween related.

I think I saw somewhere that the Halloween stuff goes up around the first week of October so we miss it

As for check list:

  • Candy exchange - check
  • Scrapbook exchange - check
  • Postcard Recipes - check
  • Travel insurance - check
  • Travel money - check
  • Contacted credit cards about using abroad - check
  • Suitcase packed - check (24kg but got 32kg so hoping most of this is candy and scrapbook)

  • Transfer to airport - check (through DCL)

  • Airline ticket to Heathrow - check (& seat chosen)

Now all I need to do is somehow schedule a flat inspection before I on the 4th although part of me thinks I'm missing something here!

I spent a lot of time researching Skype and Facetime in order to be able to call the U.S. while gone. I found that you can basically call for free while in port if you can find a decent free wi-fi spot. The suggestion is to turn off the video because it will slow things down and make the call choppy. To compare I decided to check my T-Mobile plan. I have the Simple Choice plan that gives me unlimited minutes, text and data for $50 a month. (First two GB is high speed and after that it slows down but I seldom get close to that.) Then I found the plan included International unlimited text (receive and send) and data for free. Calls are a flat 20 cents a minute. I checked all of the ports and all are included in the 20 cent plan. I'm pointing this out to everyone so you can check your own plan as many have changed for the better in the last couple of years. Note that you cannot be on board as the Connect@Sea cell service will override the service and you will be paying the at sea rates. For that I suggest the Skype or Facetime option using the ship's pay wi-fi. Even that has improved over the old pay by the minute plans. Now it's measured in MB used. It won't be free but cheaper than the at sea cell service or ship's phone system.

Thanks looking forward to meeting everyone. We are aware of the late dining times. Hard Rock was the one place we could dine early last year. Which since it is the night before the cruise is a good thing for us so we can be well rested for the next day. I think I will go ahead and make a reservation for 7 just in case we need it.
