My son said he had to fill out a form for school that asked the "what are you" questions...............white, non-hispanic/ hispanic/African American and so on. He said he went to the teacher and said he didn't know what to check, as his heritage was Scotch-Irish and Mexican..........she told him to check the white, non-hispanic and he said, "But I AM hispanic!". So then she told him to check hispanic and he said, "But I am also non-hispanic." So she told him to check other, and he apparently began talking about the disadvantages of trying to pin down heritage/ethnicity...............MY BOY!

I really am bummed about not going... we were gonna go over Christmas Vacation and had to give up on the idea cuz DH business is having a really slow bad time... it just stinks cuz my Best friend lives in Orlando and I SOoooooo wanted to spend Christmas there instead of with crazy mom...Sorry end of rant.

Here's a drive-by joke for my friends:

Speed Trap

A state trooper spied a car puttering along at 22 MPH. So he turned on his lights and pulled the driver over. Approaching the car, he noticed that five old guys were inside, and they looked wide-eyed and terribly pale.
The driver pleaded with him, "Officer, I don't understand, I was doing exactly the speed limit! What seems to be the problem?"

"Sir," the officer replies, "You weren't speeding, but driving slower than the speed limit can also be dangerous."

"I beg to differ, Officer, I was doing the speed limit exactly: twenty-two miles an hour!" the old man said.

The trooper, chuckling, explained to him that "22" was the route number, not the speed limit. A bit embarrassed, the man grinned and thanked the officer for pointing out his error.

"But before I let you go, Sir, I have to ask... Is everyone in this car ok? These guys seem awfully shaken."

"Oh, they'll be all right in a minute," the old man said. "We just got off Route 119."

This convo was being held in the car today. Then he started asking if he had any French, English, Native American..........his dad had to thoroughly confuse him by saying that Native Mexicans ARE Native Americans. I told him he likely had something from everywhere...............

Meanwhile, the little one was playing with the ice leftover from his lemonade and was saying, "I dropped some ice out of my mouth on the floor but it was an axkident", "Ice is very cold on your fingers", "I wish I had more lemonade. We should have asked them not to put so much ice", "When ice melts in lemonade it makes lemon water".



Back and forth.........a question about heritage, a statement about ice..............my ADD brain was

Paige- we have gone round and round about this. We lived about 20 min from each set of parents. A nice distance. Well DH’s family moved 1.2 miles from us. My mom is now jealous of course and wants us to move closer to her??? Umm….
Anyway we usually hit DH’s family around lunch time and my parents house for dinner, by the way both DBIL’s come with us since my mom’s cooking is soooo good and DH’s mom, well lets just say the microwave is her favorite thing in the kitchen!!!

For the last two years I talked my mom into having DH’s side of the family over to her home. She agreed, this made things soooo much easier. This year my mom wants just us. To expensive and crazy to have everyone. We also had the, meal together since DH’s family was caring for some ill family and living here close to us, this is the house they bought once the relatives passed away. They did not really have a good place to have everyone and still care for the family. A joint meal was just easier.

Now DMIL is mad at us b/c my mom does not want her there!!! For crying out loud. She is just too lazy to cook herself!!! There are relatives that live 2 hours from us and now she has latched onto their meal and expects us to go with her. 2 hour drive there, 2 hours at the house and to eat, 2 hour drive home. Don’t think so!!! I would never make it to my mom’s. Plus the family smokes and I have lung problems so I cannot go to her house. Just lovely.
