The Lucky Nugget Saloon - reviews

The big group didn't spend any more money per person as your group did. I am sorry the character interaction was so lousy. OUt of all the character meals I have had at three resorts, my experience is that it is a hit or miss.
Because we are always a group of just adults, characters sometimes ignore us. It's not because there are no small people at our table that we are not in the mood for some character hugs!

Hope it'll be better next time!

We ate here on Saturday 12th April at 12 noon and had the buffet.

We used our Half Board Plus vouchers which were excepted as full payment (plus you also get one free drink each).

The meal was good - plently of choice one the starters including a variety mixed salads, tomatoes, cucumber, coleslaw, cold rice and salmon terrine type mixture (was lovely). The main course was fish, fajitas and wraps, beef, rice, dauphoise potatoes and veg. Pudding was from a nice selection of chocolate totre, fruit tarts, fruit pies, yoghurts and pancakes.

The childrens meals was a bit more limited but included the standard chicken nuggets, chips, bread, rice, pasta and bolognase sauce.

Service was quick and friendly.

I would advise booking in advance as it was quite busy and I expect if the parks are busy then the Lucky Nugget would be full fairly quickly.

What really made the meal was the band playing in the background (some great music), the ambience of the restaurant (it is beautiful inside like an old theatre) and the characters that come round as you eat. They all spend a good amount of time with you - and this was the first time we had seen Mickey and Minnie together ! I even had a dance with Baloo !

Do you have a list or do you remember which restaurants accept the half board voucher?

I've used this list as a reference:
http://www.dlrpmagic.com/guides/practical/halfboardmealplans/

but it doesn't mention Lucky Nugget at all on there and it's exciting that it basically paid for your meal! I'm wondering if there are other places not mentioned on that list.

I think the restaurant have changed somewhat from that list .. will see if I can find any info we have from our trip.

I just want to add that we did the character lunch during our Halloween trip last year and it was fantastic! The food was great including loads of great deserts :lovestruc and there were loads of characters that came to each table, there was no 'scrum' and had a great atmosphere. I will definitely be booking this for our January trip :thumbsup2

We had a really good time at the luckey nugget loads of choice and the pudds were to die for as you can see the kids got lollys as well and a small toy to take out the service was great and we saw lots of charactors ,we could of seen more but the kids wanted to go back on the rides BTM after a buffet omg...

My friend and I dined in here last Monday and we had a table booked for 1pm.

As we were just a party of 2 we were seated at one of the ledges overlooking the buffet rather than a table, I would have prefered a table as the chairs were a little high up for my liking and my legs always dangle!! The only advantage was I could look at all the yummy food before making my decision!!

We used our half board plus vouchers which were taken off us by the waitor once we were seated and had ordered our drinks.

There was lots on offer and for starters I can remember having asstd salads, parma ham, melon slices, hard boiled egg and soup and rolls if desired.

For mains I can remember that there was Pizza, Chips, Chicken Nuggets, vegetables, BBQ Ribs, Chili, rice, asstd fish dishes, creamy potatoes in a garlic sauce.

Desserts included - Chocolate Mousse, Fresh Fruit, Creme Caramel, Rice Pudding, cream cakes, doughnuts, cheese and biscuits, sweets and Ice Lollies.

Characters that we met were Robin Hood, Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, King John, Eyore. There were other characters around but it seemed that as we were adults some of the characters just walked passed us whilst others were happy to stop and spend a couple of minutes with you having a cuddle and photo!!

It was about 2.30pm mow and we decided to get going as we had a fastpass for BTM up until 3pm so we asked our waitor for the bill as we had each had an extra drink. We waited and waited and waited for the bill, asked him twice more and we were getting more and more fed up!

At 3pm we decided that we would leave €10 by our plates and hoped it would cover the cost of our 2 soft drinks and we left or so we thought! As we got to the exit there was a big queue and we though nothing of it until it was out turn to leave and we were asked for our white ticket!! We looked a bit puzzled and said what white ticket so the CM on the door said Oh you haven't paid, you need to pay your waitor and then you can leave! Although we said that we had paid with our vouchers and left money he wasn't going to let us out!! In the meantime other people were being left out and glaring at us thinking we hadn't paid! I understand that people might walk out but they could either take your food money before you sit or stmap your hand when you've handed a voucher over. Eventually we go back to our table and wait for our waitor, the money has gone by now and when he showed up we asked him for our white ticket so he made to not understand us so we led him to the CM at the door and said you tell him we have paid!! At around 3.30pm we get out of The Lucky Nugget and hope they will let us on BTM as our fastpass time has now expired!

I would eat at the Lucky Nugget again simply because the food was wonderful but I will make sure that I insist on a white ticket to get out!!

After three visits here we are now used to this but I wonder why it is only The Lucky Nugget it happens at. Maybe they found rather too many people were leaving without paying?? :confused3

If the park is only open till 7pm in September, will the Lucky Nugget Saloon be open till then? And would the characters be around then too or just during lunch?

We ate here last Friday 22 August at 12.00 midday.

It was NOT a nice day - we had torrential rain followed by heavy rain with a bit of raining cats and dogs for good measure. We were glad to sit down in the dry. As there were 4 of us, we were seated down on the main floor, not on the benches around the edge, which I was glad about.

We didn't hurry at all as we weren't in a rush to get back out in the weather, PLUS Husband and Son were hungry and kept going back up for more.

The long time we spent there meant we got to see 7 characters - Chip, Dale, Gideon, Pluto, Robin Hood, Scrooge McDuck and....to Dtr's delight...Timon

<embed src="http://apps.rockyou.com/rockyou.swf?instanceid=121288964&ver=102906" quality="high" salign="lt" width="426" height="319" wmode="transparent" name="rockyou" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"

I chose that transition effect to reflect how the day was!

I guess I may have been spoilt by buffets at the Steakhouse and Inventions as the main courses on offer here didn't tempt me as much as I hoped, but still there were plenty of starters to fill up on and some really nice pear sorbet amongst other things for dessert.

The band came out and played after an hour, and got people up on stage to help with each song. A little girl had to ride a hobby horse, a woman was dressed up in a cowboy hat and pretended to cook during another song. All very silly and good fun.

I have just looked at my receipts and see that the adult menu here was 30 Euros per person while the child was 15 Euros - then you have to pay for drinks.

In the Steakhouse the adults are 35 Euros but children are only 10 and the drinks are included - we actually paid less for our meal in the Steakhouse and I think that was much better value.

That's not to say I wouldn't eat at the Lucky Nugget again - I probably would but it is not my number one favourite.

oh wow, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Timon!!! :yay:

We dined here on the 6th October and it was not a good as when we dined in June, could it be that it was out of season?

There was no band playing and we only saw 4 characters - Eeyore, Pluto, Jessie and Robin Hood and they didn't seem too bothered with greeting us!

I know we were 2 Adults but sometimes you like a hug from a character just as much as if you had small ones with you. We were not ignored but they just walked past us and patted us on our backs and were off, not a chance of getting them to stand still for a photo pose!

The Food was not very nice and the only thing I ate really was the starters! I had Chips for my main course as they seemed to have run out of things and were very slow in replenishing and there wasn't much of a dessert buffet left by the time we got there!

I would think again before spending €30 euros plus drinks for an average meal, I would rather put the money towards Inventions in future.

At least this time around we knew to ask our waitress for the white ticket and to be fair to her when we were paying and handed our Dream AP over for discount she did say next time ask for an orange juice or a Kir with our meal as it would have been free as we had a Dream AP.

Booked lunch for 13.00 on 16th January, 4 adults, 2 kids and a baby.

All I can say is WOW. I love this place!!

We were all hungry at 12.00 so popped in to see if we could go in early - no problem. Were seated right infront of the stage, there was one couple in there and one other family.

Pluto and Tigger were straight over to assit with chairs and coats lol.

Little Un wouldn't keep her hands off Tigger.

Tigger and Pluto then 'assisted' the kids with getting their food.

Mickey and Jessie then came out. Had loads of character interaction/time, as only a few of us in there for about half an hour.

Food was very good, good selection, hot food hot etc.

I had a very surreal moment the day before when I went in to check the opening times - Donald was on the reception desk, we had a conversation in sign language :rotfl2:

The place started to fill up about half hour after we got there but still got lots of character time. There was one table with 2 ladies and a bloke, everytime the characters went near them they shooed them away!!! I'm sure this made Pluto agravate them even more :rotfl2: Why go to a character dining if you don't want to see the characters:confused3

Anyway we enjoyed this so much I booked to go back for lunch the next day!
This time it was really busy (Saturday), the waitress took us to a table only to discover that the people on the next table had pulled part of our table onto theirs so they had more room!! She was very apologetic and went to get the supervisor. In the end we were seated upstairs which wasn't a problem.

They had a band on today, but they only played 2 songs and then disappeared again. We had Pluto, Mickey, Jessie and Tigger again today along with Geppetto (who smacked my hand for calling him Giseppee!!).

Still had good character interaction even tho' we were upstairs. Geppetto was a scream, he was getting a bit frisky with his CM!!

Again the food was good but was going really quickly. The only prob with being seated upstairs is having to go up and down all the time to get food. There was a lot of people queing waiting for tables, which is a problem when they sit on the bottom of the stairs, awkward to fight your way back from getting food, past the reception desk and back upstairs! The CM's were trying to move them but they just sat there!

Saturday was still good although it was a lot busier, so I'd recommend going in the week if possible. I will definately go back here, we all came out feeling very full. It's worth it just for the character interaction. I just wish I'd booked it earlier in the week - we'd probably have ended up eating here every day lol.

We visited Lucky Luggest on Sat 10th and found much the same it was soooo busy and staff were completely overwhelmed. Loads of people waiting for tables which were late, I think due to the cold the people inside were staying longer than normal...

Again the food was being eaten as soon as hit the decks and there were a lot of empty spaces , which the staff were struggling to refill as there was obviusly a rota going on. meat, then desserts, then rice etc

When we were waiting for our table we couldnt believe that people were seated upstairs and had to their way fight through he queues to the buffet. It was a mess it was so busy when the lady on desk was calling out names as tables were cleared, people couldnt hear and missed their turn..... a lot of nearly lost tempers.

Having said that weekdays It is calm and beautiful... last year we visited mid week .sat down in an half empty restaurant., the food was plentiful and no queues. Lots of varied characters were coming around we took lots of photos ...lovely ...after about 10 /15 mins cast member comes up and takes our orders and ...whoops my husband had left the vouchers back at the hotel....  we had to pack back up and leave ...how embarrassing,, thank heaven I hadnt let the kids at the food :rotfl: :rotfl:

Never mind I expect next year we will have an eventfree luch at the Lucky Nugget :upsidedow

Initially I'd booked the LN for 1.30pm on Friday, then when our flight was delayed, I telephoned the booking line and they kindly rearranged it for 3.00pm as were going to be arriving around lunchtime, when I checked into our hotel, the CM told me I should change it to another day because the characters would be leaving at 3.00 and there might not be such a good food selection. I was reluctant to put it off again Liam had already had 1 meal cancelled at Billy Bob's the evening before and having your Birthday meal at a Holiday Inn is not much fun at any age but especially not 10, so I asked if we could have it earlier instead and he changed it back to 1.30, this gave us time to drop the luggage off and leg it to the park.

When we arrived it was busy, but we were seated quickly and on the lower floor, which is so much easier for getting to and from the food.

Food- I enjoyed my starter, green salad, boiled eggs etc., was slightly miffed when I went to get more butter and came back to find my plate gone, but hey-ho 2 courses to go ! The rest of the family went straight to main courses, Liam had Fajitas, said they weren't nice, the filling was mushy and everything was cut really small, Liam described it as minced, that was a slight exaggeration, he went off and came back with pasta bolognese, Rob & Jamie had pasta too, and after a long wait Jamie was rewarded with a slice of pizza.
Lots of empty serving dishes this was at about 1.45pm and very slow restocking.
I was totally uninspired by the look of the main courses, ended up with cheesy potatoes and what was left in the vegetables tray, a bit more green salad and some brown bread.
Usual choice of desserts but again they were so slow restocking, I'm really easy going when it comes to sweet things and just grabbed a selection, Rob wanted 1 dessert in particular (he's very fussy) and Liam had had the last one, it must've been about 20 mins before they replaced the empty dish. Jamie was disappointed that they didn't have his usual, which I think are known as "floating islands" and he settled for a yoghurt.

Characters - OK so my boys weren't too bothered about the lack of characters, if I had younger children I would have been, actually who am I trying to kid, I was disappointed at the lack of characters. Eeyore and Mickey were there when Liam had his Birthday cake and before that we were visited by Goofy, and that was it although I had seen Jessie in there, when we first arrived. I couldn't believe the difference in the amount of characters from our visits in 2007 and 2006.

Birthday cake - No music/song played, our CM was singing and clapping along with 1 or 2 others, but it doesn't create the same atmosphere as having the Birthday song played and in our experience at Cafe Mickey and in LN in the past with the rest of the diners joining in.
The cake looked spectacular, it was on a cake stand that looked like an enormous chocolate cake, with the actual chocolate birthday cake on top. After Liam blew out the candles, our CM said I'll take it away and bring you 4 slices - ( 4 slices of chocolate cake for £15.00 or 23 euros if you'd ordered it there :scared1: ) I said thankyou very much but we'd rather take it with us back to the hotel, we've done that before, but not this time - because the chocolate cake contains fresh milk, she said she wasn't allowed to let us take it, so I said OK, just cut it into 8 pieces bring them all out and I'll sort it from there. Then she said I will see if I can find you another cake instead and came back with 1 one of the 15th Anniversary ones, all boxed up - this one is a sponge with chocolate cream layer and IMHO superior, it was very nice enjoyed back at the hotel later that evening with a hot cup of chocolate. :goodvibes

The LN has been a firm favourite in the past, top of both my boys' restaurant list. It is pricey, baring in mind of course that I'm paying for 3 adults and 1 child, I paid £74.00 in advance to add it to my booking, £15.00 for the cake and adult drinks were not included so that was another 20 euros including a tip. Mickey was great when Liam had the cake, counting the candles, rubbing his tummy in a Pooh manner, giving us all big hugs and that was the only real high of the meal. At over £100.00, I came away feeling a little disappointed and when I mentioned it later, the others agreed. There was nothing that warranted the money spent, if character interaction had been up to our previous experiences, I wouldn't have been so bothered about the food, if the food had been better maybe I could have grudgingly given up the characters.

To put things into perspective, we've had 3 excellent dates in LN before, maybe we were just unlucky this time.:confused3

We had character lunch at Lucky Nugget yesterday 21st April and were not impressed.
This was our last day of a fantastic trip to DLRP and had booked in advance for our table at 2pm.
We arrived 5 minutes early and after a short wait, we were shown to our table downstairs very near the buffet facing the stage just as the band began playing.
Looking around, I thought it was quite dark and dingy although I guess typical of the cowboy theme. We saw 6 characters in all, Mickey, Goofy and Pluto were first followed by Gedeon, Smee (although he didnt come to our table) and Tigger.
One family completely monopolised the characters and got far more attention than anyone else, which was extremely unlucky for the family at the next table because they bearly got a look in- how rude of the first family to push their kids to the next table to keep the interaction going with their kids instead of allowing the next family to have their turn. They were english too!

Anyway.. it was the food which was the problem, it was just awful.
We like Tex Mex but this was horrible. The starters were ok but there was meat and fish in the salads (my hubby is a vegetarian) I am not exaggerating when I say the thing I enjioyed most was the boiled eggs and the chicken nuggets from the kids buffet.
The ribs were tough and chewy and cold. The chicken was pale and uninspiring (and cold) despite having just been replenished. The chilli was dried up mush (and cold) and the Chicken Fajitas were very spicy, mushy and yes... cold! Oh, and there was no salsa or sour cream with the fajitas either :confused3
There was also a kind of beef stew which was at least warm but the beef was stringy and it was in some kind of dark brown sauce that looked like treacle- yuk! :sad1: Then the waitress brought out a new tray of burgers but they were bloodied in the middle- ok if thats how you like your meat, but I dont  Then the potatoes ... they had onions and ham in them and looked a bit pale but I thought I'd try them anyway, but they tasted acidic, werent cooked properly and ... cold!
We had finished our drinks by the end of the main course but despite asking twice for another round of drinks, we were ignored and there was no tea or coffee on offer either.
Desserts were better with pancakes, various pastries and candy/fruit and ice lollies for the kids but I didnt think the meal was of sufficient quality for the price people paid.

Sorry, but I would not reccommend the Lucky Nugget. For the same price, you can have a much nicer meal at Walts with excellent service, it seemed to me that the food was not as important as the characters who stayed around 30 seconds with each table, and some didnt come around at all. They seem to come out 3 at a time for up to 30 minutes, then they change, which is fair enough, but there was at least 10 minutes between each change. Gedeon came out last and left first at the change stopping at just six tables on the ground floor- he did not visit the first tier at all. None of the characters went above the first tier- which was bad luck for those sitting upstairs.

Much better paying a little more for Cafe Mickey.

We ate here on Monday 15th June at 12pm, we had booked in advance which was needed as the restaurant soon became very full. In the time we were there 6 characters came round although only 5 visited us. Gipetto did not get to our table. Mickey Mouse, The Genie, Pluto, Goofy and Tigger all came round. As with Cafe Mickey it was most annoying when children ran up to the characters when they were across the other side of the restaurant and dragged them back to their table as this meant the character did not make it around the whole restaurant before he had to have a break. As we were leaving the original 3 characters came back out so i do not think you would see more than 6 characters dining here. My DH thought the food was ok but i was less than impressed. We both agreed that there was less variety than previous years and the food which they did have was luke warm at best. The characters did seem to spend a lot of time at certain tables and they didn't seem very organised with sometimes all 3 characters being in the same section. In the past i have always loved this restaurant so it was a little disappointing. Definately the worst buffet out of 3 we went to, only saved by the characters which i am not sure i would go back for as there are several other places to have the same experience but with better food. The restaurant was full by the time we were left and only families were allowed to sit in the buffet area where the characters spent most of their time. Hopefully things will improve again in the future but it did not score highly with me.

We ate here at lunchtime on Wed 17 March. We were seated at the very far left in the second tier which DH felt were good seats. He's a major people watcher . There were only three characters: Mickey, Pluto and Goofy but they came out frequently and their interaction and time spent with the kids was very good imo. Goofy even took a picture of the three of us! Our daughter is mad on Mickey but disappointingly he, twice, only went to the opposite side of the restaurant and it was difficult to explain to her at just under 2. Goofy was also outside the building with very little queue for a photo. The food was fine, similar in quality to the other buffets we ate at. The crepes were horrible though with some kind of disgusting sauce on them . The band were good although not many people seemed to cheer them on. It was pretty busy the whole time we were there and people were being turned away at the door. Despite this the CMs were good.

We used our free dining HB+ dinner vouchers which covered the bill and our daughter ate for free as she's under 3. We paid €3.50 for an extra Sprite :scared1: but this was the standard price in the other buffets too. Overall an enjoyable experience. :thumbsup2

We ate here Friday and we thoroughly enjoyed it, we enjoyed the food and character interaction was fab. We ate here at 12.15 and left at 1.30. We met Captain Hook, Mickey, Goofy, Pluto and Mr Smee,

The food was a selection of salads and soup, croutons and rolls for starters. Mains were chilli con carne, fajitas, veal and chicken dishes, pork ribs, rice, chips, nuggets pizza etc. So something for the kids to eat aswell as the adults.

We found this buffet better value for character intervention over Inventions this visit.

Prices dont include a drink and under 3s ate free aswell as got free drinks.

I was a bit disappointed there was no band playing and it wasnt even set up so they werent due to play at all that day.
