So, my 11 year old dd was watching The Suite life of Zach and Cody and I recognize the guy that played Doc from The Love Boat. So I told her what show he was on. She says, "What is The Love Boat?" and I immediately start singing. She starts looking at me like I've gone totally nuts.

Fred Grandy...aka "Gopher" hosts a radio morning talk show here in the DC area ..."The Grandy & Andy Show". I listen to them every morning on the way to work. He just mentioned Bernie Kopell (who played Doc), the other morning.

Ahhh....good memories...Love Boat and then Fantasy Island.

We used to watch as an entire family.

I love how these shows will pop in actors that us adults will know. Of course, then we have to go explain to our kids who in the world they are (I had to do that for Dolly Parton & Vicki Lawrence).

I don't think I've shown DD The Love Boat -- I think I need to do that. Although things like this get you in trouble.

I had to show my DS-11 Gilligan's Island because his Cub Scout den did a skit on it at pack night once. He was all mad because he didn't want to play a girl. He got over it & did it but he had never seen the show so had no clue how this skit was absolutely hilarious for the lines the boys were saying. We came home, we found some episodes, so showed it to him. He LOVED them. I found the Rescue for Gilligan's Island at Toys R Us really cheap so I got it for him for Christmas as he had just asked me a couple days prior "Do they ever get off the island?" Then my 4 year old went to his speech class singing the theme song to Gilligan's Island -- the speech teacher was when he was singing because she wasn't sure what he was singing at first. I had to explain it.

I'm just picturing my kids starting to watch The Love Boat and going around singing that one.

How funny. I was actually on the Love Boat. I have pictures of my cousin and I. Before it was the Pacific Princess and Island Princess it was the Sea and Island Venture. It did cruises to Bermuda. My grandmother went on her honeymoon on it (2nd marriage) The funny thing about the ship was that most of the cabins had twin beds which you couldn't put together

A friend of our family's worked (something to do with ships) in the Panama Canal. When the Love Boat went thru it (remember that episode?) , our friend was the one who drove the ship thru.

Half of the first season will be out on DVD in March. I always wanted DD to see those to understand why I began to cruise. I think I will order it so she can watch it before we sail in April. This will be a cute surprise for her. While we are going out of San Diego, we are doing the Mexican Riveria just like they did.

I adore this cheeseball of a show. I've never seen so many people wanting to get off a cruise ship before! Every episode someone was packing their bags!
