So I just finished reading last night. Overall, I enjoyed it, except for 2 things.
1. I predicted just about EVERYTHING that was going to happen. The only thing that surprised me was that Mal'akh (spelling?) was really Zachary.
2. After the climax, those 20 pages or whatever just DRAGGED for me. I felt like it was just sooo drawn out.

Anyway, what did you think?

I loved it. I guess I'm stoopid but I didn't figure anything out until right before Mal ahk was revealed as Zachary. The end did drag just a bit. But I can't wait to read it over again.

The bit about Mal'akh being Zachary I figured out a few pages after he had been introduced!

I totally agree with the last 20 pages or so, that really spoiled the book for me, I struggled for a few days just to get through those last pages, after reading the rest of the book over a weekend.

Overall I enjoyed it. I figured out who Mal'akh was as soon as they said he was in prison with Zachary. And yes, those last several pages dragged on forever! I figured the Washington Monument was where the thing was buried because he kept bringing it up.

There was one other issues I had, and it's the same one I've had with some of his other books. Peter was held captive and suffered a pretty traumatic injury. Yet as soon as he is freed, he decides he's going to run all over town with his friend showing him stuff. The whole time they were in the Washington Monument, it was as if he had never 1) been injured and 2) learned his dead son was alive AND had just captured and tortured him AND had just died. Ummmm.... yeah, I don't think so.

I agree that the book was very predictable. It was fun to read because we just spent a week in DC in June and got a little more "history" about DC. We had just been to almost every one of those places talked about in the book.

I found the book interesting until the end. And, yes, those last pages DRAGGED. I figured out he was Zachary when he kept mentioning that he heard Peter tell the jailer to keep him there and that he wouldn't pay the money. Why would a complete stranger be so focused on that moment and take such offense to it?

I had Zachary figured out from the moment the prison story was told. I thought the book was good but was fairly predictable. I agree about Peter being so traumatized but able to run all over town afterwards. And that last 20 pages...... I honestly just skimmed over most of it, it was way too long...
