The lost camera Saga! Update: 9/5 FOUND, 9/8 PICS!

I hope someone turns your camera in. You might want to consider in the future using several memory cards so if something happens to one you haven't lost all your pictures.

Ian we are doing ALL 3 that you said ( CP, CM and H & V ) so really please let me now how I can help out.
IF its not returned by 7th Oct when we go, I will happily go to Lost and Found and ask in PERSON If this would help.
On another site, there is a Cm that posts quite a bit, they work at AK. I am trying to track them down to double check you have done everything you can. (I Think you have) but hey, you never know, it wont hurt to have one more person looking!

Had loads of hits on the other boards, and some very sweet concerned messages, but sadly no sightings.

If I win the UK lottery my DD4 said im to send you all some more tickets so you can come right back and take another holiday. Now that really got me choked! I was quite proud she was so thoughtful. now IF I do win, i might just do that! :sunny:

That is so sweet of your DD.. definetly such a sweetheart - it's so refreshing to hear things like that and see that lots of kids are being raised right - i think i'd go ballastic on my kid if he ever 'took' something or wasn't being thoughtful..

Wish we could go back sometime soon, but I think we're stuck because DS5 starts school Tuesday, so we're probably looking at next summer..

Thank you for all your help - more than i could ever ask for. :)

Off to put the kids to bed

Strange as it may seem, you should also specifically check the Mousesurplus "store" on ebay.
Mostly they sell Disney World 'artifacts - from pins to signs to shirts to props to furniture to vehicles... but a few months ago, they had several apparently unclaimed cameras. Mostly digitals, one film... these are different from the large Kodak digitals they've had recently - those are the ones used by Disney photographers.

Thanks Simba -

I just thought of one thing I"m going to try - evidently Disney has/can(?) try to look up your pictures that were taken on a different photopass (even if you lost it?) if you have one photopass (we picked up another one Saturday)..

so, possibly they may be able to pick up some ones we took of the boys/everyone with mickey, minnie, goofy at the camp at AK right before lion king.. that would be soooo great, if they can even find those.

I was able to login on our last photopass and found 6 pics with Mickey from toontown (MK), 4 of the boys.. so that was nice. Hopefully the photopass people can find more!

Thanks.. just checked and nothing, but I'll keep an eye on it

I doubt someone is going to ebay/craiglist it, but you never know..

I am so sorry to hear your story, the same thing happened to us in Feb 06 and guess what the story has a happy ending! Yes we lost our camera at MGM (Disney Studios) and of course it was the whole trip on the camera and yes it was our kids first trip to Disney and yes we called and called and the lost and found and YES they found it about 3 days after we lost it. We were staying with family about a hour north of WDW and we came back and got it, nothing was touched! I trully know how you feel and I wish you all the pixiedust in the WDW! Someone wonderful person turned it in, we wanted to get there name or number or email to contact them and thank them but the CM didn't know any of that, just some great person turned it in. Good Luck!! :cheer2: We are cheering for you! pixiedust:

I am so sorry that this has happened to you and I do hope that you get your camera back. I am a scrapbooker and I know how important my pictures are to me so I can understand your wife being so upset. Keep calling Disney as it takes a while to get everything tagged and placed. Be as specific as you possibly can as to where you think it was lost.

Just so you know that there ARE some honest people who go to Disney. This last trip we found a camera on Splash Mountain and turned it in. On a different trip we turned one in we found on the curb at Main Street. I would NEVER think of keeping anything that didn't belong to me - and it is something I am passing on to my children - now ages 7 & 11.

Karma must go around as during our last trip we lost the pictures we bought from Splash Mountain. It was dd7's very first time on it and the kids sat in the front seat so the pictures were very special. We spoke with the concierge staff at the BWI and gave them the approximate time and where we though we lost them. It took a while and several phone calls, but the pictures were returned to us! Some thoughtful person turned them in. (I will be writing a letter to the Boardwalk to thank them (again) for all the work their staff went through to find our photos)

I was told that it does take a while to get things tagged so maybe your camera is out there but just not yet in the correct spot.

Good luck!!!

Jill

I suppose you didn't do any of the photopass stuff. It would have been pricey, but is a nice backup in a case such as this. I feel so sorry for you. :(

I just noticed you lost them, btu I hope dieny can track down the ID for you. :cool1:

I know this won't help you now but we've started putting our cell phone number in all our valuables during trips to DL, etc. I tuck a little note into each camera case, video case, fanny pack, sling bag, etc. with both my cell number and DH's. That way, if he misplaces his bag with his phone it in (which is much more likely to happen than me misplacing mine :rotfl2: ) someone who finds it can call my number. We even put our number in the kids' fanny packs or pockets so they can always instruct someone to call us if we get separated (they're 8 and 11).

Sorry you lost your camera and I hope you get it back soon!!! :sunny:

It can take over a week or more for Lost and Found to track items down, and to ship them to you. They don't even call you to let you know it's on the way most of the time either, according to posts on this board.

So, hopefully it will show up and you'll be able to get your photos - (it might have gotten destroyed in the downpour you mentioned.) I hope it's safe! Then you can stop being disappointed about people :confused3

I am so sorry about losing your camera. That is one of my greatest fears! I will say have faith it may still be found. I would imagine that it could be tough to match a camera to a report.

We were there last week and my son lost/left his lanyard FULL of nice pins somewhere-Pop food court, Epcot, bus in between? We really did not know. So I filed all the appropriate reports but after a few days still it had still not been found. We assumed since it had been 3 days that someone had found and kept it. Well, we got a call and they had found it!! Of course the day after the lanyard went missing we lost my daughters Sleeping Beauty dress out of the bottom of the stroller. Funny thing is we knew within a few hours and what potion of MGM it must have been lost in and it has still not been found but the lanyard which is far more valuable and we had no idea where it had been lost was found. I am still hoping that the dress will be found but...

My friend lost her full of money and credit cards wallet somewhere in Epcot. Wasn't found or turned in while they were down there. About 2 weeks after they were home she got a package from WDW. it was her wallet--with everything still in it! I hope that your camera is located and sent back to you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your camera :sad1: Hopefully a CM will find it... and not all people at WDW are bad... so have some hope and don't give up!

You can't always trust employees either. A few months ago a relative mentioned that his son-in-law who works for an airline "found" a gameboy on a plane and was looking for games to play on it. My first thought was there is a kid out there who is heartbroken he lost it and it should have been turned in.

Hopefully someone will be honest and turn in your camera.

I completely empathize with your situation. I left our camera behind in one of the trucks on the Safari at AK on Aug. 27. I hadn't been feeling well that day and we didn't even notice that we didn't have it until later in the day. I was really upset. We also had several hundred pics on the camera. My DH called guest services at AK but they would not confirm on the phone whether a camera had been found or not. Around 4:30pm (1/2 hour before AK closes), DH drove over to AK. He checked with guest service and with the cast members at the Safari. No one had found the camera. I really had little hope that it would turn up. Fortunately, the person who found our camera was honest. My DH called central lost and found the next day and it was there.
In a complete "what goes around, comes around" moment, my DS8 found a digital camcorder on Misson Space the very day we got our camera back. He turned it in so hopefully that person has their camcorder back as well.
Keep calling central lost and found. I hope that you get as lucky as we did.

It's great to read the stories of people getting back their lost stuff!!! I really can't think of many other places where this happens so often. I believe it has to do with the fact that since most everybody at WDW is taking pics, video taping special moments and spending alot of $$$$ we can all sympathize with the predicament we know someone would be in if we chose not to be so honest!!!

That is really sad. I would be devasted to loose it with all those photos. Let's keep our fingers crossed...it may still show up!! Please keep us posted..

I did report it to lost and found.. we'll see huh?

I'm disappointed in people because you would think that someone would realize how important pictures of your 2 year old at his first time to disney might be priceless to the parents.. yet it is unlikely anyone is going to 'turn it in' to us

but how do you know it is even in visible sight, i mean isn't it possible it fell somewhere and someone just has not found it yet, if they do or did is there information on it so when they do turn it in someone can contact you? No one knows it is your child's first time at disney and that is not even the issue, it just gets me that someone says they are disappointed in people and you don't even know if it has been turned it yet or not, now i could see if you saw someone steal it, then yes be disappointed in the person, but we are all entitled to feel the way we want,

I understand being upset, when my dtr was born of course tons of pics, then the lab lost the pictures, i was not going to get them back, but things happen, i was upset but it passed

You're certainly right, it just might not be 'found' yet..
It does have our contact info in the case, so hopefully that helps

No luck at lost&found today, but we'll just keep trying..

Maybe disappointed is the wrong word, and maybe upset is - maybe I"m angry at myself, or angry at no-one in particular... disappointed is just the first word that came to mind. Not to turn it into a philosophical debate, but that's the word that comes to mind when i think of 'the bad' vs 'the good' in this world.. I know this is an extreme example, but 'the bad' that we can have wars, hunger, disease - we as people could do much more and i feel 'disappointed' that we don't (probably myself included).. In other words, why shouldn't we have more 'random acts of kindness' (see that thread), but instead we have more 'negative' threads..

I'm not expecting to get it back.. that's ok - i just wish we would or could because to us as parents, it's special.. i'm sure you know how that is.
