Just received my IRS rebate of $1200 today. Just received a phone call from dealership...$1300 to fix the car. This always happens! Just when you think you have a little extra spending money.. a car, an appliance or the house needs a repair! What gives? Is it just me, or do others experience similar situations?
I guess the bright side is...I don't have to touch the Savings to fix the car!

I believe that our refund check was easily absorbed into the great sucking sound that we call "daily expenses". Yikes.

We had the same thing happen. We owed Uncle Sam this year due to some weird situations. It was a fair amount so we asked for an extension and then paid it in parts. We received the letter informing us we would be receiving the refund and then it was followed by another letter saying the check would be kept to pay off our obligation. Oh well, I saved a stamp.

We got the rebate check and the stove called for it. So it gets fixed. As soon as we accumulate a little extra, the cars, appliances, or kids take it away. It is futile!

Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could spend those rebates on furs, jewelry and great vacations?


Oh well. Seeing as I didn't get a kid rebate LOL, I'll just make due with my winter fleece, my grand daughters plastic Barbie jewelry and a trip to the zoo every few months!

To answer the original posters question, yes, it ALWAYS happens to us. Something always breaks the day before or right after the money comes in. We figure that if *ahem* I mean WHEN we win the lottery, the money will no doubt be sucked up by little emergencies snip-snap!

or we just refinanced our house for a savings of about 130 a month, only to get a letter two weeks later that our property taxes went up 150 a month. Yikes!

Or you could think of how lucky you are to get a refund, bonus, etc. every time a big expense comes up. (see, I'm trying to be positive here?)

Doc is right, You could look at it the way I always do, whenever some big expense pops up unexpectedly, we are always blessed with money in the same way. Yes the Lord does give when it is needed as it was in your case. A blessing was given you by the refund and it came at a time when repairs were needed. Thank You Lord!

I hate when it happens that way, but in the end I realize it was great to receive the extra just in time to pay whatever it was so we didn't have to dip into savings or starve!

I like your thinking too. I just wish that I could have had the check in my hands for a few minutes at least. Oh well, the IRS is happy.

The same thing happen to except the car bill was $1200, rebate ck $800, they didn't cover the 17yo still eating me out of house and home this summer....................LOL

This is the best blessing of all!

I think when extra money comes just as an unexpected bill arrives I think THAT'S why I got it!!

Imagine if it had NOT arrived?

I never have extra money, there's always someone else's name attached to it! I just thank the Lord that I have it just in time!
