The Living Seas/The Seas...

Yay! They are finally bringing back the Seacabs, as "clam-mobiles" in the re-done pavilion. The DVC magazine for Fall 2006 says that the new makeover for the Living Seas {October opening} will have guests travel across a beach and under the sea, where they'll board colorful "clam-mobiles" and join Mr. Ray's class on a field trip into the "Big Blue World". I'm really looking foward to the "new" and improved Seacabs along with the new ride. Seems like it's been a long time coming!

Hmm, sounds like they're going back to the original concept for those.

IIRC, back when the Living Seas was first designed as a mythological attraction before it was changed in design to become Seabase Alpha, it had clam shell seacabs

The magazine article just said October. I would think you would be good to go if you are there in November.

We were there in early June and I took the Backstage Magic tour one day. They took us to Central Shops and we saw the new Clam-mobiles. They were finished and waiting to be trucked over to Epcot for installation. We also saw an example of the new chassis they mount on and were told that they had just been installed on the track.

The Clam-mobiles were kind of turquoise in color and reminded me of the Haunted Mansion's vehicles in general design only larger and the shape of an oyster shell. They will be much better than the old seacabs! Everything for the ride re-do was built right there at Central Shops. We saw the huge machine that makes the molds for these and other vehicles and items which are then poured in fiberglass.

If you ever have the chance, take the tour. It's 7 hours and pretty much takes the whole day but it's well worth it at least once.

I just did Divequest, and I could see the Clam-mobiles through a window. They should provide a really cool perspective of the tank; they're right at the bottom, and you should be able to get some great views (better, I think, than the 2nd story views).
Of course, you will be riding in a clam.
But then again, that's how Venus was born, so how bad could it be?

I never rode the old Seacabs.
And, just to set the record straight, when people talked about the Seacabs, I thought they were referring to the old "elevators" that took you down to the lab.

I rode in the old SeaCabs. I was a child. That was not that long ago BTW. I remember being under water and thinking that was awesome. If I remember correctly, it was ment to give you a look at the bottom of sea base alpha. It was a wonderful experience for a child.

My husband always thought I was crazy when I said I rode something that was under the water in a tunnel. When we were on the second floor I would point down to the existing tunnel and say, "That is where they were!" Now I have proof. The next time we go back he can see it too, along with our DD3. I know it is going to have a Nemo theme, but I am just glad to see something come back instead of it just being torn down. Now if they would just build me another horizons.

I am 31 and remember the seacabs very well also............I wish they had never removed them, as I love the experiences my children now have that I also did as a child. I am immensly looking forward to February's trip to see how they have returned! BRING BACK HORIZONS...........another one I wish my kids could have experienced.

Cast members and annual passholder previews of this ride start in Mid Oct. So hopefully it will be opened before the busy holiday season starts.

That will probably scare the pants off of DH. I couldn't get him to ride the Hyrolators last time.

You travel down a ramp past widows in the aquarium. It never felt like I was underwater when I rode it before they closed it down. I am hoping that the new ride will be open when I visit on October 23rd. I won't be back until late in 2007.
