Alright Wishes brides...who's having their reception and where?

Next question...why did you pick the location that you did? My fiance and I are planning on having our reception at the Living Seas restaurant (assuming we're able to get it...we should know by next week). I am having second thoughts about the reception location though, because I've heard from a couple different sources (and seen a few photos) that it's really dark and may mean that pictures aren't going to look good.

Has anyone else had a reception in Living Seas, or are aware of good pictures coming out of that place?

Where is everyone else having their receptions and where?

Hi Tiffiny,
Are you referring to the Living Seas Salon (LSS)? That's where we're looking at as well. I've seen some really nice pictures from there, but it is a darker space, so if you want photos with more light in them, you may be better off in a different space. We originally were planning on a space with a lot of windows, but both DF and I really love the look and coloring in LSS.

Hi Natalie!

The lighting doesn't concern me from a "party" thought...but I am concerned about how the photos might turn out. I LOVE the pretty pictures I've seent hat turn out like this:

But then you see pictures that look like....:

How are you thinking about doing it in your head? Does the photography concern you? I REALLY want Living Seas because I love the concept and idea. I just don't know if I want all of our photos to come out looking dark and awful.

I am having my reception at LSS in April. It is a brunch reception. We picked it because:
1.) I have memories of eating there as a child with my family. It was considered fancy dinner out and made a lasting impression. Also, my father thought it was really neat. He passed away when I was a child, so mom and I thought it would be a fun way to pay homage to him.
2.) I think the aquarium views are cool ;)
3.) The chairs and linens are already there-so may save some expense on that.
4.) My wedding is small. Only @40 guests, so I liked that it was a more intimate setting.
5.) I like that it is darker. I wanted lanterns and candles as my centerpieces (with some flowers added in) and I like the dreamy, mystical glow that the blue water from the aquarium gives it. (at least in my mind.)

Honestly, I hadn't thought about the photography! Regina Hyman is doing my pictures. I trust she will make it awesome.

There you have it!

If you have a decent photographer then there is nothing to worry about. They will know how to work with the light that is there. Some will also say they prefer it as they can dictate the light and no uncontrollable sources will interfere, like the sun :)

We have our dinner reception booked there for October next year and Regina is photographing our whole event and she's excited to work in there :)

We are aquarium people that's why we were drawn to it - then we did our site visit and fell head over heels in love, it's a stunning venue!!!

We want it for the same reasons you do (except the memories thing--I have never actually been to the Living Seas Salon--just the aquarium and the Nemo ride). I was super excited about it until I started talking to photographers about "dark areas" and stuff being hard to photograph.

Hopefully you're all right and that the photographers will be good enough to where it doesn't matter. I love the idea of lanterns though. I had actually already planned on doing it at my reception at home a few months later...but I hadn't thought about it for the Disney wedding (because I wanted to save money). I bet I could do it fairly cheaply though to where it'd be fine.

Thanks all!

Where is everyone else doing a reception and why?

Tiffiny

Careful with lantern pricing - they are cheap to buy but Disney wanted to charge my friend $800 to hang them in the Whitehall room! Lanterns only cost $200 lol

Maybe Carrie will see this and be able to answer for certain. I was planning on buying my own lanterns and not hanging them--but using them as centerpieces and putting an LED flameless candle in each. Maybe I'd put a small bunch of flowers in each.

We are going SUPER cheap on the floral for the wedding. It's not as important to us as, say, having characters at the wedding. So, I can see myself not even having flowers in them. Just super simple. Disney will be so mad...

Hi Tiffiny,
I think LSS is one of the venues where you have to use Disney for your centerpieces, but you may want to check. So you may not be able to buy your own for that.

Disney has to supply all decor at in park venues sorry :( lovely idea tho, you'd be able to do that at a ballroom type venue :)

Since you don't plan on hanging them, you should be able to get lanterns with LEDs fairly inexpensively from Disney.

Thanks Carrie! So, if I bought lanterns and LED candles through Disney...I imagine this is stuff I get to keep, right? What if I BUY stuff from the Disney parks and say, "Hey! I want this! Let's do this!"

See...I was looking at both of these lanterns, both of which I've seen at the Disney parks. I haven't seen them on DisneyStore.com recently (so maybe they're gone :( )...but I want something like this:

mcwqOPZOA5iR6rgk8EgwGFg.jpg

See? I want those. :) I don't want to buy them THROUGH DFTW...I want to buy them and say, "These are what I want on my tables. Technically they come from you."

This is the other:

So...we'll see, I guess!

Tiffiny

P.S. After a bunch of times trying to get the Disney Store thing to post an image, it wouldn't. DUMB. So, go to the link. I like that lantern too.

Actually, you're usually only renting decor pieces when you use Disney Floral. But it is often possible to buy things too, so you could discuss that with your floral planner. They might be able to get you those lanterns since they're sold in the parks—fingers crossed!

Hello, I had my reception at the Living Seas and the space was beautiful and my photos turned out great. My photographers did a great job and none of the photos looked super dark. I would definitely recommend having you reception there!

Thanks Colette! We're stuck now--they booked it for us and are holding it. So, barring disaster...we're there!

Do you, by chance, happen to have photos that you would feel comfortable sharing of the reception? I kind of want an idea of the layout and how I might be able to suggest to my photographer the best places to get shots. (There's a good reason she'll know anyway...she used to photograph for Disney.)

This is going to sound dumb but I have no idea how to post photos on here. Can anyone give me a quick explanation?

After you have 10 posts, you'll be able to paste the IMG code for photos into any post on the DIS. You just need to host the photos on a site somewhere - Photobucket is really popular because they give you the IMG code right there under the photo and you just copy everything (including the
URL] you can upload photos to.
