The Line for Bag check

I seriously have never really understood bag check. To me it seems it is all for show. I have carried a small bag and had it checked. This past May I did not carry a bag but wore pants with lots of pockets and put everything in my pockets (same stuff I carried in the bag). Of course I did not have to wait in line for bag check. I just don't get it.

The main reason for them is to slow the lines down so that the real security team can give everyone a once over.

Wow!!! Lauren, can u post some crowd pics today? Where are you going? Would love to see if it's thinning out at all.
Today we are already at the tapstile for DHS. Still seems busier than what I think next week will be. We are two families back and I can usually sit right on the concrete base when I arrive an hour early.
This is 8:03 for a 9 am open

Much better. Disney Studios always seems to be the worst, for some reason.

Animal kingdom is always like this. Every time I go. I wait till after the park is open.

Thanks for the picture. That's where we are heading today, but we slept in.

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing. AK bag check seems to take twice as long as the other parks. Not sure why, but it's been that way for as long as we've been going. We build in 10 more minutes for arrival when we go there.

^It's not, at least not in the real world. In the WDW Reality Distortion Field, 10 minutes feels like a big deal. And if you're getting an early start and you have kids you have to get ready, etc., it makes the morning a little more hectic.

Again, I'm not sure why it's only at this park that it takes so long. That's the weird thing to me.

I'm really scratching my head here, why is 10 minutes such a big deal?
We're just posting conditions. No one is saying its a big deal. Standing out in direct August sun for 10 minutes feels like an hour .... Doesn't mean I can't handle it - I handle it every year. Now you're scratching your head because someone wants to build in an extra 10 for arrival at AK, seems like a good idea to me. I'm scratching my head about you scratching your head

Ahh, I gotchya. It read like the 10 minutes thing was a complaint. :)

I agree. I always find the AK rope drop bag check and tapstiles to be the most congested of all the parks. We didn't rush to AK for rope drop in June and ended up arriving at about 9:15 (for a 9:00 a.m. opening). Both the bag checks and the tapstiles still had crowds of people and it took us several minutes to navigate through that area. I haven't ever actually counted, but I'm wondering if the congestion is due to them having fewer lines than the other parks????

WOW thought the crowds would be small this time of year! Definitely not!

Maybe next week they'll thin out...fingers crossed

Maybe they need to offer FP+ for bag check. :rotfl:

If people would prepare before they hit the table, it would help. Take your bag off of your body. Open all of the pockets up. If you have a stroller pull all of the bags out from the bottom. So may times I get in line and the person in front of me has to start digging in the bottom of their stuffed to the gills stroller for bags. I get not knowing the very first time you hit a park, but after that, it is not rocket science, people.

Honestly, this gets me. Security should push them to the back of the line for being unprepared.

This^. Hallelujah, I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this too!
