Have you ever noticed how much the attitudes of "some" on the Religious Right match up with the Taliban?

Kingdom Coming: The Rise of Christian Nationalism - Thom Hartmann's "Independent Thinker" Book of the Month Review

I have noticed. Like any other religion there is a faction that wants to rule by force and have complete authoritarian control over anyone who does not agree with them. We have seen this in politics increasingly over the last 8 years, but even preceding that we saw it in other more general areas of Society. Although, the fringe is as radical as it has ever been it is IMHO angrier and shows even less tolerance than it once did for anyone of a different viewpoint.

Bush's Faith Based Initiative and it's legal right to discriminate against others is nothing short of disgusting.

Welcome back Amirah!!

So this person wants to be an egg donor? Because they have pretty stringent requirements: Young (generally under 28, although some clinics are less strict), educated, healthy (no previous miscarriages or infertility issues), no history of mental illness (including the use of anti-depressants) and let's face it, reasonably attractive. Also, I don't think the donor gets a choice in who their eggs go to. At least that's how my lesbian wiccan friend described it when she used an egg donor.

I worked with a girl who was very physically fit. She needed money for student loans and was considering donating eggs. It made me very uneasy as she was quite mentally ill and used drugs.
They should be alot more selective where they come from and go.

Al Franken Got Great News Today!

There was a critical meeting of the state canvassing board for the Minnesota Senate Seat and the board ruled in favor of Franken on two key issues

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Democrat Al Franken won a pair of victories Friday before the state board overseeing the Senate recount, including a decision that as many as 1,500 incorrectly rejected absentee ballots should be included.

The board also opted to recommend use of election night results in a Franken-leaning Minneapolis precinct where 133 ballots went missing, a decision that could have cost him 46 votes if it had gone the other way.

"It was a great day for democracy," Franken attorney Marc Elias said after a hearing that drew protesters urging use of rejected absentee votes.

I agree that this was indeed a great day for democracy

I got that E-mail too! It was a great day for democracy..why wouldn't you count every vote? Oh right..

What the Bible says about marriage:

If we are to let the Bible define what "traditional marriage" should look like, then our marriage laws should be amended as such:

A. Marriage in the United States shall consist of a union between one man and one or more women.
(Gen 29:17-28; II Sam 3:2-5)

B. Marriage shall not impede a man's right to take concubines in addition to his wife or wives.
(II Sam 5:13; I Kings 11:3; II Chron 11:21)

C. A marriage shall be considered valid only if the wife is a virgin. If the wife is not a virgin, she shall be executed.
(Deut 22:13-21)

D. Marriage of a believer and a non-believer shall be forbidden.
(Gen 24:3; Num 25:1-9; Ezra 9:12; Neh 10:30)

E. Since marriage is for life, neither this Constitution nor the constitution of any State, nor any state or federal law, shall be construed to permit divorce.
(Deut 22:19; Mark 10:9)

F. If a married man dies without children, his brother shall marry the widow. If he refuses to marry his brother's widow or deliberately does not give her children, he shall pay a fine of one shoe and be otherwise punished in a manner to be determined by law.
(Gen 38:6-10; Deut 25:5-10)

G. In lieu of marriage, if there are no acceptable men in your town, it is required that you get your dad drunk and have sex with him (even if he had previously offered you up as a sex toy to men young and old), tag-teaming with any sisters you may have. Of course, this rule applies only if you are female.
(Gen 19:31-36)

This is FANTASTIC! A little more ground to make up, and Franken might win

If I had to look at this list, I would say this is a combination of Muslim (my friend is from Pakistan so I know all the stories) and the old Mormon faith. This doesn't sound like any modern day religion in it's entirety.

I was going to say the exact thing before I saw your post. Actually, I think I just did. :confused3

As a fallen Mormon...I would tend to agree. Although it's not the church today...well...you know.

The story of Lot has always creeped me out. Getting your Dad drunk so you and your sister can procreate, Gross.

Me too!!
I was about 10 when I read that, I really wanted to talk to the children's minister or anyone about it but I was to embarrassed.
So I guess this is my chance to ask the twenty year old question.

What was that all about? :confused3

Completely off-topic, not that we're ever off topic here, but my good mom friend just called me singing that old Robert Palmer song "I didn't mean to turn you on" and now I can't stop singing it.

It's going to be a long day

Worst song ever.

Well, after the Pina Colada song.

I loved "Didn't mean to turn you on." Much better than the Pina Colada song.

I think that's the point. People want to push certain parts of the Bible while ignoring others.

Like Jesus (played by Jack Black) says in "Proposition 8, the Musical" when someone says that gay marriage is an "Obama"nation: "That's true, but the bible also says it's an abomination to eat this tasty shrimp cocktail!"
