Oh good, POTUS is going to speak about the 5 yr annv today. I can't wait to hear what he has to say. Too bad he doesn't have the ummm well nevermind what he doesn't have, to do it on an army/marine post where the deaths are just adding up. He'll be somewhere that will have a rah rah cheering section behind him.

He's actually speaking today? Wonder who wrote his speech and if the words will actually come out of his mouth.... oh wait, he'll tell us it's just going swell :sad2:

I think most of us have had this experience in our family at one point or another or several points or another.... it happens...

Yes, I would be surprised if many white people my age don't have grandparents who've said such things. :(

and nobody will be allowed to ask any questions...

Threw his grandmother under the bus! I'm white, and I have certainly heard my own grandmother say not very nice things about black people, and not just black people. :sad2: DH's grandparents even own the Confederate battle flag. What can you do? :confused3

This is what makes Obama's speech yesterday so groundbreaking. He didn't only talk about the black experience and racism. He talked about the total experience from bussing to affirmative action. That was powerful stuff.

This country has been been in a holding pattern since 1964-1965 when the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act were signed into law. We thought that was the end of the struggle. We thought the door had been closed on civil rights. No, it was just the beginning. I think Obama's speech opened a new door to understanding frustrations on all sides and admitting that good people (like grandma) can say bad things, but it doesn't make them bad people.

I do find it interesting that our friends on the other side of the aisle really do believe that the struggle for civil rights ended with the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights. For them,it was all over 40+ years ago. The struggle was over. Now move on. Apparently, for them, the years since have been filled with reverse discrimination and the poor downtrodden whites, especially white males.

Pardon me ............. :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: .............. I'm back.

I also refuse to believe our friends on the other side of the aisle are as dense as they are pretending to be. They know exactly what Obama said. Their fear is that they have nothing to compete with that.

Obama's speech has opened the dialog again and has given people courage/permission to talk openly about race, gender, and civil rights. Obama didn't talk down, but encouraged people to look up and rise above themselves. Another president had that ability: FDR.

From my mouth to God's ears.

Exactly, which is why what they say really doesn't bother me. They're giving back what the Left has been giving them over GW. It's their time to bash and they're having a grand time at it.

But, they're only talking to themselves. In that respect, I hope they never stop. :rotfl:

I don't need to ask him any questions. He just needs to listen to all my comments;)

Fly Boy George don't need no stinking comments.

He's got the voices in his head telling him "George, you did the right thing. They just don't understand your greatness". ;)

Is he? I'd better stay away from the TV all day then. It's harder and harder to resist the urge to throw things at it.

The most satisfying part of the Obama rally I attended in Fort Worth was the five minute break where the crowd chanted "No More Bush".

I would just stay away from the televison. I'm turning it off myself. The whole 5 year flashback is going to make me a mess today. I don't need to see videos of crossing the desert or driving into Baghdad. It makes me want to throw up or just sit down and cry.

One of these days my television is going to have a whole in it from me watching his speeches. I about came unglued during the State of the Union this year.

Or worse. The ones telling him "God made you President so you could start this war and bring about Armageddon."

I actually had a coworker tell me that five years ago when the war started.

 I think it's wise. It's a depressing anniversary for me, and I don't have any loved ones fighting in this war. I can only imagine how military families are doing.

That's Dominionist Theology at work-far scarier than Rev Wright IMHO-but then I'm a Kool Aid drinker...

If this was true, it was because he thought he was going to star in the remake of the movie:rotfl:

Just wanted to send a hug.

It's fun to listen to, isn't it? I wouldn't be too hard on them though. They fully expected to be able to push Obama off a cliff and when they couldn't, they had a collective tantrum. Give them a "time out" and let them catch their breath. I guess they were too busy with Obama's grandma to notice McCain's little blackout because there's nary a peep about it. Fox News seems to have missed it too. I wonder why? ;)
