What's to say? He got caught being a nauty boy after vowing to clean up NY State politics and now he's going to pay the price. What do they think we're going to do, defend him because he's a Dem?

Well, that's what they would do.

He is a big disappointment to me. I expected more and better of him, but who can defend his actions?

Well, that's what they would do.

And you know, that thoughts been bouncing around in my brain today on another discussion we've been having. So many on the right seem to think that, if people can get paid (a pittance, but still, free moolah! ) for staying at home and not working, then the majority of Americans would do just that. I'm having a hard time reconciling that with my own will to achieve and the same quality that I see in everyone around me, so the only conclusion I can think of that actually fits is that those people making that argument would do that if they had the opportunity. :confused3

I mean...they try to make it out like people on welfare that get food stamps are somehow living the high life, and I just don't get it. Why idealize something like that unless that's the way you actually see it?

To be fair there are a lot of people who do abuse the system. I know two middle income families with SAHM's who preach about the glory of being a SAHM who accept the WIC program. Um yeah - if you can afford to buy a big screen TV - then you can afford your own cheese and milk.

I'll ask it here (again) because i don't want to intrude on the BO thread.

Dozens of folks (in that thread) apparently happy & giving attaboys to BO because he announced that he isn't running for VP.

Questions:

Why did he wait so long to respond?

Are you pleased that he skipped 2 days news cycles (& dozens of Sunday political talk shows) before stating that (duh?) he isn't interested in being VP?

Why are you celebrating the obvious response....two days late?

It's a specious argument and they know it. Not one person crying about not getting the stimulus rebate would even for a second consider quitting their jobs, living in the projects and going on welfare. Food stamps come out to be about $3.00 a day per person -that's not even a latte at Starbucks.

:goodvibes I think Obama handled the amazingly nervy offer just fine.

Will be interesting to see how many days till Clinton has something to say about her endorser, Spitzer.

He didn't "wait two days"...he answered it immediately. But it wasn't done in a speech in front of a large crowd, it was on the airplane with a bunch of reporters, I believe. His exact quote - the same day Hillary was on the Today show and dropped her little "hint": ""The bottom line is, we've won twice as many states, we won a greater share of the popular vote and what's most important, we've won far more Independents and Republicans than Sen. Clinton has."

While true, it's a red herring, because nobody on either side of the aisle is arguing against tighter oversight of the system.

And your civic duty - and theirs, when they talk about this kind of scenario - is to report those people for scamming the system. They are in essence committing fraud upon the government and all taxpayers.

You can't complain about this kind of thing when you refuse to do anything about it.

As far as I'm concerned it is a non-story and why should he address it at all? Since when should the front-runner discuss accepting the #2 job?

For those that wonder about exactly how long it took Barack Obama to respond to the Clinton "offer"....This interview is from Friday (Mar 7)-CBS affiliate in SLC was in Wyoming covering the caucuses. Don't really know why it's an issue, but hey, here's the relevant part of the interview.

"Senator Clinton hints that both of you could be on the same ticket. Do you see any circumstances where that would happen?" Mullahy asked.

"Not with me as vice president," Obama replied. "I am running for president."

"If she is suggesting that she is interested in the vice presidency, then obviously that is something we would take into consideration," he added.

Well, that's what they would do.

Yeah. If only it had been in a bathroom stall.
Well, they are shocked. SHOCKED! that he used a hooker. Chances are they were under the assumption that cons are the only ones who pay for it. Of course, usually that's the case.

But technically they qualify for the program, so what's to report. :confused3 do I think the Mom should get off her butt and get a job if they can't afford cheese - yes I do. But it isn't against the program for both parents to not work.

I must have missed it. I TIVOd all the political shows yesterday & all i saw when i watched last night was Bill doing his "they'd be a great team" speach.

I kept waiting for a responding "clip" with BO guffawing the notion & never saw one. If he "counter-punched" quickly, i stand corrected....but if he didn't THAT'S a small correctable problem that needs to be addressed if he wins the nomination.

HC's nuanced political strategeries (that you would call "tricks" ;)) are child's play compared with what Team Republican will throw at him (or her). I want both of these candidates to step it up a notch. (& no need to comment on Wolfson's nutty "quotes".....I have the muzzel on back order for him....jeez what a tool).

Please see post 2851. There's no "if" he "counter-punched" quickly. I'm probably less into punching...more into well reasoned, political thought. Obama will make a great President. :)

What's to say?

He was wrong, he got caught and he'll suffer the consequences.

The difference here is that when it comes to breaking the law, we don't use party affilation to determine guilty or not guilty.

In this one case it does show how fiscally responsible the Republicans are when it comes to sex scandals. Larry Craig was just looking for a bargain in the men's bathroom at the airport and you really have to applaud how frugal he is. Same with Mark Foley sending naughty PM's to those young men. These sexual diversions were all done with the best interests of the American tax payer.:rolleyes1

On the other hand you have Gov Spitzer paying over 4000 dollars a night for a call girl. 4000 dollars?? Hasn't this man ever heard of Craigslist? :rotfl2:

:lmao: Now, why didn't I think of that?!? :rotfl2: I'm sure you're correct...it just goes to show how fiscally conservative Craig was. :teeth:

Well, you can't say that the woman in question was a welfare cheat...at least she was working for it!

Great observation, Eddie!

Well, duh! They defend, justify, rationalize naughty Republican behavior because said 'naughty doer' is a Republican.;)

Maybe I'm just cheap, Mugg, but for the life of me I can't figure out what a woman could possibly do to me that's worth 4000 dollars. I would have said, Hey, I thought I was negotiating for female companionship, not looking to bail out GM. :lmao:
What did this call girl ring do? Steal a page from Disney's pricing guidelines for the nightly room rate at a deluxe resort? It appears Mr Spitzer went for a concierge room with a MK view. In my day I would have been satisfied with a night at Pop Century, possibly an upgrade to a moderate, but I would have wanted a code. I would have at least asked if they offered an AAA discount.;)
