What do you think? $59 annual fee, plus $10 for each ticket for our TsA officers....so $80 for two tickets roundtrip.

Are there restrictions? Any ticket to anywhere SWA flys?

It seems like a great deal.

Please comment.

Interest rate would not come into play if the bill was paid off right away. It sounds like a good deal to me. Where did you see this offer?

It's right on the front page of southwest.com

Would you keep the card after the first year is up or would you close it? If you don't close it then you would have to pay the annual fee. And who knows what the annual fee will be a year from now?

We have two cards and pay them off monthly....no debt is left on them. So, that part is a non-issue for us.

I'm 100% sure we wouldn't keep the card if the annual fee continues.

Just applied...this will help in Oct. I'll keep you posted about how the ticket thing works. Although, I talked to customer service and after your first purchase, the reward credit just goes on under your FF# for SWARewards.

There are no sneaky small print exceptions. The four one-way (2 RT) increments show up in your account after use, just as the credits you earn from using the card do. These are good towards a standard flight (some dates/times are blocked) or a complete round trip can be used towards one Freedome award (one-way, no exclusions)

I have never found any black-out dates that caused problems, but I've never wanted to fly over the holidays, so that could be an issue.

Most things with Southwest are very transparent and logical, and I have changed/rescheduled flights numerous times w/o issue, and without fees.

I love this card - in terms of saving $$ for Disney or other travel - I pay it off each month and earn 1 round trip every 9 or 10 months. The credits are good for a year, and if for some reason you don't travel in the year, you can pay $50 and extend it for another year.

Also, in the 3 yrs I've had my card, the annual fee has not changed.

Thanks 2TxaGs - Do you work for SWA? =))

What a great explanation....sounds good...couldn't hurt.

I know it's really not free...but at least I'm not paying full price.

We have four RT tickets to purchase for end of October....so, I'm sure there isn't any blackout dates then! :cool1:

I signed up a week ago and like my plan better. NO fee the first year. 1 Round Trip with first purchase and the ability to earn 500 gc in first 93 days. First 1200 you spend you get 100 gc, next 1500 I think is a 250 gift card, etc with max possible of 500 gc with 5k purchase in 93 days.

Not bad....I guess the $500 GC translates into two RT tickets....so, yes you are getting 3RT's, but your spending $5000 on a credit card relatively.

I guess whatever works....I think for us the $80 for two tickets is better than spending $5000.

Glad it's working for you and your situation.

I think too it depends where you are flying TO to see what offer is a better deal for someone. In my case I can easily get 2.5 round trips on the gift card if not 3 based on where I need to fly to and from. So for me, almost 4 round trips is a good deal. Granted I need to spend the 5k but I do that anyway -it becomes my card for choice for 2 months. I really need to fly the 3 of us to Orlando...So since my case involves 3 people this could be my best bet. Sounds like you only have 2 in your party making it ideal for you. Just something for someone else to consider what deal is best for them...

Can anyone tell me what the blackout dates are? I don't want to sign up if we can't use the tickets - we can only travel during Pres. Week next year!!

Does anyone know how long it takes to get approved and to get the card? Will they give me the card number right away so I can use it to purchase something online? I want to purchase tickets very soon and this sounds too good to pass up.

Took me about a week to get my physical card and no they don't mail you your CC number. What I did though is once I got the card I called customer service and asked for my statment to close in a week. Since I had already charged 2k in a week I was hoping the close of a statement would trigger the free round trip and first 100.00 gift card....Worth a shot..Otherwise takes 6 weeks to get...

Thanks for this thread...I just applied. Does anyone know if it's restricted to one 2 free flight promo per household? I don't see it in the rules...I want to sign up DH for one too...to get all 4 of our flights to WDW in August....

Nope, don't work for them, just have been a satisfied customer for 20+yrs.

Love the convenience of changing flights. My in-laws always end up wanting to extend their visits a few days before it's time to leave. We call up SWA, find a new flight, apply what we've already paid towards it and only owe the difference. No fees, no hassle.

I booked a flight to MCO in late Dec. for May. Found it $10 cheaper last week. Changed the flight (online, myself) and instructed them to refund the $10. Again, no fees, no hassle.

I think people get freaked out by the non-assignment of seats, but now you can pay an extra $10/ticket to insure you're one of the first to board the plane, in which case finding seats together is a non-issue.

Just a heads up - SWA is going to a points system rather than credits starting in March. Earned credits and awards will still be usable, but new purchases will earn points. I haven't figured out yet whether this makes a big difference to me.

Also, I just checked availability from Manchester NH to MCO for Presidents week THIS year. No reward seats available at this point. Were there some a few months ago - I have no idea. I don't really know if they have blackout dates as much as very limited reward availability on certain dates, but I do believe the new points system brochure said something about no blackout dates ever.

I got in on the promotion that was 1 round trip and up to $500 if you spent $5000 in 1st 3 months. I think this deal is still out there. Look on slickdeals hot deals forum and search Southwest credit card.

I signed up late summer and got all I was promised. Had to have a new roof put on and used the card. Actually earned enough points for another free roundtrip. Just booked Hubby and I to Vegas this morning and will save the $500 gift cards for next year.

If DH signs up and gets the 2 free flights, can 1 be used for me and the other him? I was unsure do to southwest credit change-credit needs to be used in the persons name purchases. TIA D
