Yes, we are DVC owners at Saratoga Springs. We wish we had bought sooner, but we love it now! Our room for this last stay would have cost us over $1,600, but was $0 cash. Our trip in July would be well over $4,000 for the room, but again, $0. Of course, there is a buy in cost, and dues for upkeep and such, but we figure we will break even in only 4 years, and after that, the savings will be tremendous.
How we looked at it was simple, we are planning a Disney trip every year (actually, we have 4 trips in 3 years planned, and maybe another!), and we like the amenities in the deluxe resorts, so we prepay for our rooms now, and 20 years from now, when a room will cost $1,000 or more a night, our cost will still be a few hundred a year in dues. Saving us literally thousands in room costs. When we are ready, we can transfer the points to the boys.
Now we are ready to add-on already! We want to make sure both the boys have enough points each to take a good vacation every year with their family in the future. Of course, we'll be using the points for at least the next 30 years or so, but we'll be taking them and their families with us.
I hope I haven't sounded too much like a commercial, and it isn't Disney's best kept secret anymore, but it was a great fit for us. If someone prefers staying off-site or only in values, then it probably isn't a good fit. Or if someone only goes to Disney every 3 or 4 years, they might see some savings, but only over the entire 45+ years of ownership.
