The Last One???

I'm also thinking of stepping back. The training for this Goofy has been very difficult at best with the changes in my life right now.

That said, I plan to keep putting in steps as I can and see where they take me.

I do know the WISH Team is the major reason for my participating in these events that are not local to me, and for the WDW DH since he is such a WDW fanatic.

I definitely need the WISH Team presence in my training. It makes this long journey so much more bearable.

I'm doing this marathon for purely selfish reasons. Mid-life crisis to be exact. This will probably be my one and only, so I can say, "Been there, done that." I seem to run out of hours to train too.

I want to continue running at WDW in January, so I think the 1/2 will be my race of choice in the years to come.

We'll see.

Vic,
I am right there with you. Just want to say "I ran a marathon". Ok, not just say it, but know that I accomplished it. Not sure if it is a mid life crisis, but I did just turn 50. What better time to run a marathon. Maybe I'll buy a sports car too :)

But, we'll see. I'd love to do the New York and Las Vegas marathons so who knows.

enjoy,
Duane

Hey All:

I love running marathons. I actually found the training for the Marine Corps Marathon didn't seem to take up as much time as training for my first marathon at Disney. As everyone here knows, I'm not going to be at Disney this year. I'd love to run it again, but it's just too expensive for us to go. It was also causing too much stress on the family when I was talking about going down myself for a solo-trip just to run the marathon. They were all getting mad at me that they weren't coming along. So I'm not running Disney, but I would like to run at least 1 marathon a year.

Some day I'd like to run Disney again, but only if I can run with WISHers.

Hello again - I know that it has been a very long time since either posting or even lurking here on the Dis boards but I think things have settled enough to allow me to get back into the swing of things. As a bit of an update: DW has not worked since and is still on the mend from her auto accident in Nov-2006, I have changed companies/jobs leaving one after 9 years, DD and DS have increased their participation and thus their neediness in mom and dad in school events, I have continued running - you have to do something to stay sane - and am coaching 4th through 8th graders in track and cross country (3 of my guys qualified and will be running at the National Cross Country championships next weekend).

So the reason for my post after such a long hiatus - I will continue to run through thick and thin and plan on getting back to WDW to run as many races as I can get to – being DVC members has made this a lot less expensive and easier to justify too. I do understand those who wish to branch out and try other events but hope that all thinking on making this the last one continue to train. I took a break this year after the Goofy and will not run another marathon until at least March of 2008 but I have run 3 half marathons, a 10 miler, 3 15k trail races, 2 5 milers, a couple of 5ks and made a family event out of the ToT 13k – DW, DD and DS walked the 6.5k and would like to do a lot more events. This long winded post – hey you gotta give me some room as it has been so long between posts, right? – is to simply state that I plan on running marathons into my 80s (will turn 50 in 2008) and hopefully do as many as possible at WDW. So, no it will not nor never be my last one. And maybe I will see many of you at Philadelphia in 2008 (this will be my 3rd Philly) as I return to where it all started.

Run on,

Mike B -- Goofyguy1958

I was the OP of this thread. Although the WDW marathon in 08 may be my last for awhile, I'm still going to keep training. There was no question about that. But I think I may focus just on the halves for a little while until life's issues settle down.

I've really enjoyed our WISH group and getting to meet many of you at events. I'm not giving that up. But until I can devote the time necessary for full marathon training, I'm gonna avoid the frustration of trying to get the long miles in and focus more on the 1/2's and maybe some shorter distance triathlons.

BTW, there used to be a tri at WDW in Sept. I don't see it listed on the endurance schedule for 2008. Only the Danskin women's tri in May is listed (and that doesn't fit into my schedule). Does anyone know if the Sept. tri has been eliminated?

While I will never say never - the Jan full will definitely be my last FULL. I had every intention of last Jan being my first and only full, but that special top secret anniversary Mickey medal sucked me in for one more. Since I am so slow I find the amount of time needed for those LSD Saturdays for a full to be just too much, especially when it is over the holidays. That doesn't mean that I am giving up on Disney or halfs! I will absolutely continue training, just not for the full marathon distance!

I am like all of you. I love doing the Goofy but for the 3rd year in a row, I have an injury that makes it hard to complete my training. The previous 2 years was at the end so I just took them as 3-4 week taper(no training). This year it is in the middle of all my long training walks so I will go into with no training and hopefully totally healed. I could do half with a much less intense training keeping me healthy and happy(plus with a lot more money not spent on PT).

I will continue to excerise so can keep in shape and able to do shorter WDW races.

Tek224: WDW just hasn't updated their website. The Tri will still occur next Sept!

Hi Everyone!

I can remember standing in that lovely parking lot after last years WDW marathon and telling my sister that I "in no way, ever want to do another marathon." Two weeks later, I signed up for Goofy.

I do not plan on doing another WDW Marathon after Goofy. The timing is awful for me and my family. DH can not get time off work in January, the kids do not need to take time out of school, and so I go alone. Luckily, I have some very supportive sisters.

There are several other Marathons that I would like to tackle. Plus I would like to get away from having to do such big mileage at Christmas. It would be nice to only have to worry about maintenance miles during the holidays.

However, I love the excitement of the WISH team as we get close to WDW. Perhaps if I had been part of the MCM thread, I would not worry so much about missing the Wish team as I train for other events.

However, there is magic at Disney and I am completely sucked in by it. So its possible that I will be back. And I still have to figure out why it was so incredibly cool to see Darth Vader standing in the middle of the path at mile 23......

Hi guys! I'm just getting started so I really hope there will be some WISH folks around in the future at the WDW Events! I'm starting out the 5K in January and my sister and I are doing the Minnie 5K. I have played around w/ the idea of the doing the Minnie 15K in May, but it may be too soon. If not, I'd really like to try the 15K in January 2009. Just a little apprehensive...

Everyone has been so encouraging and it really helps me stay motivated and keep at it!!!

Stacie - I don't think you have too much to worry about. There are still a TON of WISH people that are going to be running the Disney events. And most if not all of us that say "This is our last" will be sucked into going back again, even if it takes a year or two. We'll miss it!!

This is going to be my last Disney event for a few years too. DH has started to show some animosity towards my disney running and how our vacations have been planned around my races. So... I am giving him a break for a few years. I am still going to run... and still going to race... I am just going to try and stay LOCAL for a little while. We have an awesome race calendar here in Jacksonville, and considering I have NEVER done a race here at home I think it's about time!!
