Day 1 - Where did it go?
Yippee! We were in the air and on our way to Orlando. Our first time Fliers were handling themselves like seasoned Pros. This was the start of a 25-hour journey to Orlando. The first leg was a one hour flight to Auckland, where we would board the United flight to LA. Boarding the 747, we were placed toward the back, 4 rows back from the movie screen. Looking in the Airline book, I saw we had some good movies this flight. I was looking forward to watching Shrek and Croc Dundee in LA again. After all, we had an 11 hour flight to LA and although I've done it countless times before, I can never sleep on this flight. Our First time Fliers had no trouble occupying themselves or sleeping through most of the flight (even through some mild turbulance south of Hawaii). I was really impressed. LA to Orlando was delayed by 20 minutes but we still got into OIA at our scheduled time of 10 PM.
From OIA to the All-Star Sports, we got a Mears Shuttle. I had decided not to get the rental car out on arrival because after 25 hours, a one hour drive was the last thing I wanted to do. The Mears people were great and I got to ride up front. We had two other couples with us, one was heading to the Boardwalk and the other was going to Coronado Springs.
Now the Twins were asleep when we entered WDW, but not long after we dropped the first couple off at the Boardwalk, a shout of "PURPLE SIGNS! WAKE UP! PURPLE SIGNS! WAKE UP" came from the back
The Driver and I chuckled as one of the Twins had woken up and saw the road signs. I was glad she had remembered what I told her about WDW. Soon Mum and both the Twins were wide awake, talking about the Searchlights coming from Downtown Disney and the Swans. After we had dropped the CS couple off, we made our way to the All-Star Sports when out of nowhere, "BLIZZARD BEACH! BLIZZARD BEACH! .... LOOK AT THAT SLIDE!"
The silhouette of Summit Pummit dropped the jaws on both Twins, who regard themselves as Water park Afficionados. WDW Magic had struck and everyone was in awe. Big grins broke out on the Twins faces
but Mum didnt look too good
. I think she was afraid she'd have to slide with the Girls!
Check in at the All-Star was as easy as an 11:30 PM check-in could be. We got adjacent rooms on level 3 of Surfs Up! and was on our way to the room around 11:50. Unfortunately the Foodcourt was closing up and our chance of getting something to eat was gone. Spent a little time unpacking and watching the WDW Tour channel. Sleep came eventually around 3AM.
All in all, Monday August 27 was the longest day ever. We had gone back to the future but we were finally here. It was good that VIP Guide Michael had scheduled an easy day for us tomorrow.
What now for our weary-eyed Travellers?
