"The King's Speech"

We lived in London for two years and can pretty much distinguish between English, Scottish, Australian, and South African accents! DDs are Henry Higgins clones and can almost determine neighborhoods, but certainly cities - Manchester, Liverpool, the -shires, Edinbrough (sp?), Glasgow, Dublin, etc. But we aren't average Americans, we're above average!

Just had to add my 2 cents since I saw this last night. I, too, really loved it. Colin Firth blew me away with his portrayal of the agony of his situation, Geoffrey Rush hit the perfect balance of teaching with humour and discipline and I also really enjoyed seeing Timothy Spall as Churchill. He certainly packed on some more pounds to play that role.. or so it looked. The two princesses were adorable too! It is not often that you hear applause at the end of a movies but the crowd clapped for this one.

We just saw this yesterday and thought it was absolutely brilliant. There were more than a few places where I teared up and several others where the entire theater was laughing hysterically.

One of few that I've seen where the entire theater applauded at the end. We'll definitely have to own this one.

I saw this over Christmas weekend and really enjoyed it. I will be not only surprised but appalled if Colin Firth doesn't win the Best Actor Oscar. Thought G Rush and HBC were great, too. The theatre was packed when I saw it (albeit not the biggest auditorium), and the audience loved it.

If I had my druthers, I'd still love to see Toy Story 3 win Best Picture, but, knowing that's all but impossible, I'd be happy to see TKS win.

Finally made it in to see it yesterday. Just fabulous. It's been a long time since I've found such complete satisfaction in a film. Wonderful cast (Colin Firth, "Best Actor" awaits you), terrific script, fantastic story, costuming and set design were fabulous...really well done all around.

Like others have said, our theater laughed and cried and applauded. I even felt myself sitting forward in my seat, willing him to say the words he needed to say! <lol> I can't wait to own this movie - it's one to watch again and again!

My in-laws went to see this on Christmas Day and came home with such high praises that DH and I saw it on New Year's Eve.

Now, we are not big movie-goers. Usually we see the latest Harry Potter movie and perhaps one other each year. Anything else we wait for it to come out on Netflix. So if we see a movie in the theater, it better be good.

Well, The King's Speech was beyond good. It was excellent! I am a big Colin Firth fan, and he did not disappoint! There was even applause at the end of the movie. I highly recommend it.

I loved this movie! I went with DH this past Friday. I actually want my kids to see it when it comes out on DVD. DS has been in speech therapy since he was 3 (not for stammering). When I told him what it was about he was incredulous that a grown-up would need speech therapy. He's just starting to understand his learning disability and I think it would be great for him to see a grown-up working to overcome theirs.

I can't see any reason it was rated R except for the swearing. I also didn't hear too many words that my kids haven't asked me about after riding the bus. Did I miss any other reason it was an R movie? My kids don't swear and are very good about understanding that they don't repeat words they hear in certain songs or movies.

From what I've read, the R rating is for the language. Which I personally didn't think was that bad. Yes, there was some foul language, but it served a purpose (and they explained it). I don't usually like excessive foul language in movies, but I wasn't the least bit bothered by the swearing in this film.

Quite likely the best movie I've ever seen. Best acted, best script, best cinematography... All three main characters would be worthy of awards, as would the film itself.

Special award needed for best use of profanity.

Anyone with a brain should go see this movie. I would gladly go see it again and happily pay for the second set of tickets.

I saw this a couple of weeks ago and was so moved by the story of a person who stuttered stepping up to the plate the way George VI did. In the movie, his therapist told him he was the bravest person he knew, and I had to agree. What's really amazing is how much people who stutter are embracing this movie since it's such a real portrayal of what they're facing when it comes to speech. I know my local chapter of the stuttering association all went to see it together, and I would guess that's happening in lots of cities.
