The "I Remember when Disneyland" thread...

I remember when it was like under 12 was a child ticket now it is 10.

I remember when Disneyland had the Motorboat Cruise. It was boring, but neat because you got to 'steer'.

I remember when the area between the Matterhorn and It's a Small World was turned into 'Disney Afternoon Avenue'. They had a little Duckberg set up from Duck Tales and Gummi Bears were bouncing here and there and everywhere. Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers were there and so was Dark Wing Duck and the Tail Spin crew. This was all pre Toon Town of course.

I remember when Splash Mountain was brand new and had the muscle tank to prove it. I wore it over a tube top! Sweet!

I remember America Sings and how I loved when the theater moved.

I remember riding the People Mover (RIP) and seeing the people waiting for Circle Vision.

I remember when Disneyland had a guest book inside the waiting area for Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. I signed it every visit.

I remember when you could shoot from fort on Tom Sawyer's Island and buy a pickle from the refreshment stand inside.

I remember when Brer Bear slept in his cave between Haunted Mansion and the Country Bear Jamboree.

I remember when there was an arcarde at the exit of Splash Mountain.

I remember flying from Sacramento to LAX, then getting on a huge helicopter (see below) and flying to the Disneyland Heliport. The heliport was between the Disneyland hotel, and what is now the huge parking structure. I also remember getting to the park and my mom talking to someone from southern California who said locals stopped flying on those helicopters since "one of them crashed":scared1:
Also remember when the park and ALL the rides stayed open until 1 am. We'd get early admission and enter the park at 6:30 am, and stay straight through until 1 am.
I rode Space Mountain the first week it was open, and it was pitch black inside, and people were getting sick, so they had to add all those lights inside so folks could see which direction the track was going. Also remember when the Haunted Mansion was just an empty building (about 1965).

I remember when DCA was a parking lot and the first ride of the day was the tram from the lot to the Front Gate!!!

You must be young!! My 19 and 23 year old remember the parking lot, and our first trip in about 1999 when construction started on California Adventure.
At that time a lot of us thought California Adventure would just be a new land at Disneyland, not a park that required it's own admission. Oh, sorry, Disney is spending over a billion dollars redoing the 9 year old park because MOST people still think getting into California Adventure shouldn't cost extra!

I'm so glad you can vouch for me because I can't even find a picture online of the sailor hats! I have only seen them at Disneyland that one year and had forgotten all about them until this thread. I've never seen them in WDW.

I was too little and scared to ride, but my brother loved the Matterhorn. I do remember seeing the inside of the mountain, though- did the train go through? Or another ride?

The Skyway used to go through the Matterhorn.

Does anyone else remember that attraction sponsored by AT&T? In the pre-show they had telephones to play with, and a timer showing how much faster you could dial a phone using push buttons rather than a rotary dial. Guess they were trying to get people used to the idea of new technology.

I remember getting to park in the very, very front of the parking lot, right outside the main entrance, using our Club 33 card. Cal Adv takes up that area now I guess.

Circle Vision.

I remember the One of a Kind shop in New Orleans Square - loved that place!

And the Dancing Waters show at the Disneyland Hotel - I think we spent just as much time at the hotel as we did at Disneyland. The Monorail Cafe had the worst service, but we always ate there anyway.

Like plutotek, I remember seeing the Matterhorn under construction. Also remember the Tobacco Shop and the opening of the little saying on the door "Tobacco is a dirty weed...". Vitamins from the Upjohn Pharmacy. The Indian Village with actual, uh, native Americans. The Pack Mules through Nature's Wonderland. The secret tunnel escape route from Fort Wilderness on Tom Sawyer's Island. The Flying Saucer ride. Big bands every night during summer - saw Harry James and Buddy Rich. Before Star Tours and Adventures Through Inner Space that same location was occupied by the Monsanto Hall of Chemistry exhibit. I have a very vague memory of pay toilets in Fantasyland - I wonder when that ended?

I remember the Monsanto House of the Future. I also remember the flying saucers in Tomorrowland. I also have a chalk drawing that was done of me by one of the artists on Main Street in 1965,
