The I Love BWV (yes, Hallways and Clown Pool too!) Thread

Well, I don't want them to hold back some lockoffs if it means I can't get my 1BR!!

:cutie:

(When we've come with family and needed 2BR, we just planned on P/G view. I guess we remember the time when BW view was just a request, and we accept not getting it.)
I also book 1 beds. I’m going to pull the room information to take a look at it before emailing. I just don’t think every single 2 bed resort view should be a lock off.

Well, here are diagrams of the Resort view villas, so you can count the number of 2BR lockoffs. And then recommend to DVC how many to hold back, and until when? Do they start letting them be booked as Studios and 1BR at 7 months? 6 months? 3 months?....

Thanks! I probably won’t give a specific number of rooms request in my email. But tbh if 5 rooms were held back I would be happy that I could fight for 1 of 5. I would be very interested in knowing how many studios are booked vs 2 beds at booking opening. Like is anyone actually able to get a 2 bed or are they all being taken out by studio bookings. I think there is a way to see this info, I just haven’t learned how to do it yet but I have the instructions on how to do it saved.

I will do my research prior to emailing.

It's always been tough to book 2 bedroom standard or BW view, even back in the day when we had to call. But in 23yrs I've always done either of those, I have never stayed garden view. However since the pandemic it is soooo much worse. I managed to get a bw view last year but I had to walk it for a LONG time (then I ultimately gave it up when I switched to RIV lol).

A five second glance at the listings at certain professional rental companies will show you where the studios are going and hence the 2brs.

We have 16yrs left, they are not doing anything for owners. Take a look at the Boardwalk itself!! Sorry it's just so disappointing to me after all these years how awful it is.

Part of the problem goes back to the original design. For resort view, 15 of 52 studios are dedicated, 23 of 60 1 bedrooms are dedicated (per *******). So that cuts down the number of possible 2 bedrooms. Not sure why, if they expected Boardwalk to be more couples and small families who would prefer a dedicated room.

Years ago, around 2000, when I was making one of my first reservations, I booked a standard 1 bedroom and I asked to request dedicated. The CM told me I did have a dedicated, you don’t see it but it’s in their system. Which makes sense, they have to track how many of each so they know how many lockoffs they can book as 2 bedrooms. I usually book at 11 months, most of my studios and 1 bedrooms have been dedicated. Have never booked a 2 bedroom.

I had no problem in my early years. Bought right before it sold out in 2000. First off, my welcome home visit was in a Boardwalk View.
Then until about 2010 my preferred travel times were school holidays, xmas and easter.

After that, again, I could get a studio for myself in standard/resort view fairly easily at 11 months for food and wine festival up until I wanted early December. Still, another trip in January to March wasn't a problem. Then they lowered January points and that made it more difficult to get January.

I could get Boardwalk View pretty much when I wanted it. My last 2 bedroom BWV boardwalk view was February 2025.

Fortunately for me I have options as I have enough BW points to book a garden/pool one bedroom or studio. It's not like I'm locked out of my resort.

I do feel the commercial rental market has had an effect and also DVC itself takes the rooms that are profitable and easier to sell.

Whether they could declare some 2BR to be dedicated, I don't know, but I wouldn't expect it at this point. OTOH, that might be one of the first changes made to BWV2 in 2042. Take out those connecting doors, cover the openings with sheetrock, and install a single Murphy on that wall, at last!

They still need a door between the kitchen and studio part to have a dedicated 2 bedroom as the entrance area may not have the space to create a doorway into the studio side. But removing the 'double door' situation would be nice as I find the two doors are awkward when in a two bedroom.

LOL, watching TV and posting on DISboards simultaneously isn’t optimal for me! But I hope that when 2042 rolls around, DVD will make the kind of structural changes that are needed to create dedicated 2BR at BWV when they’re building out BWV v.2 to 2040s standards.

Dedicated rooms might alter the point charts a bit, locking in the point total for that category. Most view categories by season, is less points getting a lockoff vs. an individual studio and one bedroom combo. Some how they figure out how all the resort points are usable each year.

Dedicated could be done, but would alter the studio and one bedroom totals with a chance of a points chart adjustment.

I do not think they can change the way things were declared after the fact.

Especially since the lock off premium has already been set.

To change any current lock offs to being bookable as dedicated, those points would have to be taken out and that means less breakage and stuff, assuming it would even be legal to do.

I'd bet a large sum of money they tear it down and put up a tower.

Well darn.

It’s why one my DVC rules is to never buy in with the expectation that you will be able to book the limited number of low cost view rooms at a particular resort. Always assume one level higher.
I guess that’s where I don’t agree. The thing is there are not a limited number of rooms. The issue is them all being lock offs. Next, the same thing happens with Boardwalk view which is not the lowest cost room. (BW view was also not bookable during this ordeal)

But yes silly me for wanting to book my home resort at 11 months.

You can book your home resort…. you just can’t get the limited view that you want…

We can agree to disagree about it being limited. It is not limited, it's just shared with studios so becomes unbookable. Studios that happen to be commercially rented more than anything else in the entire system. I didnt come here mad yelling about how I hate BW and want to sell. I came here to share my disappointment that is all. I wont submit to being okay with the way it's currently setup just because you or others think I should be.

But we knew that’s the way it has been setup for decades before we purchased and we are two extremely knowledgeable people about the DVC system.

I get that it is annoying… and we probably both agree that commercial renters (including DVC itself) is part of the problem.

But to me…. those were well known issues and I had to accept that as part of the package if I want to book 2BDs when I bought in. I’m not making any statements about how anyone else should “feel”… only speaking for myself.

Yeah that was the upside to buying BC instead but I wanted BW, BC wasn’t worth the 2042 expiry to me.

That’s the purpose of my email. It’s safe to assume DVC does not care how I feel about it. But I still think sharing my experience as a member is something I should do. Especially given the renting issues at BW

Nobody else in my life cares about my DVC highs and lows so I come here to vent or express happiness. Not even my husband really, the only time I get his attention when talking about booking rooms is if I say “I’m just going to book Animal Kingdom then” He has a similiar response to RIV, we have never stayed there only visited. So I plan to sway him on RIV next month. As of now there is no hope for him with AKV even when he saw the fabulous refurb pics. He likes BLT and that’s what he said to try to get at 7 months if I didn’t secure BW but I was secretly planning on RIV.

Evidence of his choice and also at what an amazing value BW resort view is.
