We really, REALLY, REALLY want to go back to the world. How bad??? Bad enough that I was able to convince my “I hate crowds, let’s go in the off season” husband that we should go on New Years Eve! Actually….. It didn’t take too much convincing. He gave me the A-Ok to book the trip back last Spring… The hard part, was finding a time to go that wouldn’t conflict with any baseball games, wresting matches, tennis tournaments, etc. Ugh. Traveling was SO much easier when they were in elementary school and I could yank them out of school for a week with very few repercussions. Not so easy now to pull them out in January at the PEAK of wrestling season. Trust me… You don’t want THAT coach, nor a bunch of angry wrestling teammates that haven’t eaten for a month against you.

So….back in the fall before season schedules come out, we tentatively decide on the week AFTER New years. The boys aren’t scheduled to go back to school until the 6th. I think it’s perfect. They can miss the first three days back (Don’t judge.. seriously, what can they learn in 3 days?” and we can come back that weekend, giving us 8 glorious days, with (hopefully) significantly lower crowds. Husband was in, Kids were in…. But then I got the wrestling schedules. Matches on the 7th, 8th, and 9th and thrown in a weekend tournament. Sigh. I mean, he could feasibly miss a match and I wouldn’t feel bad… but three matches and a tournament? Nope. No. Can. Do. Back to the drawing board. I’m frustrated.

Enter in my “I hate crowds, I’m not going back unless it’s in the off season” husband, who says, “I really want to go back… Let’s just go.” Me: “WHAT?? You do realize this is the absolute WORST time we can go right?” Him: “So, I really want to go.” Me: <dashes to get computer to book trip>

Yes, I took advantage of my husband’s temporary insanity and booked us at the Carribbean beach Resort for 6 nights, checking in 12/31 and checking out on 12/6. Then a week later I added two more nights. LOL. I started reading about how MK has NYE fireworks on the 30th.. and since we are already breaking our no crowd rules, I figured why not go for it? Then I decided that we could get a full park day in on the 6th (with hopefully those lower crowd I was talking about) and leave early on the 7th in hopes of making it back in time for the match that evening. Phew. Even writing this I think I am crazy. Oh.. One minor detail. We didn’t tell the boys we are going. You see, after all the scheduling conflicts, we just let them believe the trip was off the table for now. Being a parent and playing mind games with them is so much fun. We still have’t figured out exactly how we are going to tell them, so if you have any ideas, let me know.

I guess before I go much further I should introduce the cast. I have gotten WAY ahead of myself. So without further adieu…… Meet DS16: He’s 16, though he has more hair on his face than most grown men. Weird. He’s so big, and sometimes I can’t believe that he’s mine! Like… Do I really have a kid this old???? He’s a junior in high school and the cause of most of our scheduling drama, as it’s his wrestling team that has all of the matches lined up. They were state champs in 2014, and runners up last year, so… they would really really frown on him missing. In fact, I’m pretty sure they won’t be happy about us being gone and missing practice after Christmas… but oh well. He can stay in shape at Disney! His first trip to Disney was over his 7th birthday. I figure that time is ticking with him, as he will be on his own in just over a year. Trying to soak up every last bit of Disney magic with him! Now I’m getting sad… Ok. Moving on. Next up is DS14. He’s in 8th grade. He’s also a wrestler, but his season doesn’t start until after we get back. Thank goodness. He also plays the tuba. He’s pretty funny and he and my husband pretty much talk in movie quotes. I usually stay lost, but that’s ok, because they understand each other. I’m sure he will keep us entertained on the ride down. Then there is the baby of the family. DS11. He’s in 6th grade and just started middle school. He will also wrestle this year, although I am kinda wondering how that’ll go… I get nervous thinking about it. He spends most of his time defending himself agains his older brother’s. Don’t feel sorry for him though. He can hold his own! He is sweet.. and very smart. He tells his brothers he will have the prettiest wife one day. Lol. If you ever want to see what chaos looks like, just come to my house. Trust me. Three boys and throw a husband in there? Never. a . dull. moment. Next is my DH. He is a general contractor. He likes Disney, but is definitely not near as obsessed as I am. However, he supports my habit, by taking me every so often and I have him trained to spot hidden mickey’s in everyday life. He is a keeper. Lastly, there is me! I’m a Stay at home mom/substitute teacher. I stay pretty busy. I went back to school recently and got my associates degree. I was ready to get my bachelors in education… but then had second thoughts and decided to hold off a bit and just enjoy being a mom. I will go back someday, but probably not until the youngest graduates. My Mom and Dad took me on a trip to Disney as a graduation present when I was 17. We only went to two parks Epcot and Magic Kingdom. We stayed offsite too at an Econo Lodge. That was back in ’96 when the castle was a giant cupcake. That was what began my Disney addiction. I cherish those memories now especially, as I lost my dad last year to Parkinson’s/Lewy Body dementia. …and if you aren’t familiar with those diseases, well then, I hope you never have to be… because well… they suck.

So, a little recap, because I feel like I totally ramble.

Up next I’ll go over a tentative schedule and our ADR’s. To anyone who’s been during NYE, I would love some insight. I know to expect big crowds and I am definitely expecting the worst, but any tips would be appreciated!

I'll be back soon and hopefully with pictures.
