The Hyena Chat thread: Everyone's welcome!

Do you know you lose 75 % of your body heat thru your head?

Hats are a necessity here.

oh and we wear shorts when it's sunny mid winter. Just as the weather "thinks" about spring, the sun will shine very bright and warm but the snow will still be lingering-- and it may just storm the very next day -- just for kicks.

Shorts, boots, mittens, hat and sweatshirt... shoveling the heavy wet melting snow off your roof. :thumbsup2

Do all your Walmarts carry the trademark quilted plaid flannel shirts?
It's a must have "Up North" clothing item... I am a city gal.. thus immune from the dreaded quilted flannel shirt-- thank goodness!
My mom buys them for the boys and hubby, we smile and say thanks-- and then it will sit in the closet gathering cat hair.. until we make a winter /spring visit to my mom's house. :lmao:

I buy them for Frelan to wear to work.. I dont know where I get them, but he likes them because they cover his monkey arms. :lmao: Actually.. He hasnt worn one since I bought him the carharts jacket last year.

I never really wear shorts. It has to be really dang hot.

Thankfully... I got my groove back before I did Frelan. His came out half way decent. Not that he cares... He wears a hat everyday, so you cant see it. Good thing too.. I noticed his bald spot is getting BIGGER. :lmao: :lmao: Alex looked at him after the hair cut, and said, Daddy!!! You look just like Grandpa did! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: My dad was BALD!!! He totally does look like my dad used to!:lmao: :lmao:
Oooo, isn't that a little weird when you realize your spouse looks a bit like your dad??? :lmao:

Layers.. think layers. Tshirt, long sleeve shirt, and a sweatshirt or fleece should work well for December. That way you can ditch the long sleeve and fleece/sweatshirt at mid day in the locker. Pick them up again to bundle as the evening begins.

They sell some cute hats :rolleyes1 if you get really cold. Plop on a beanie and you will be toasty (and cute!)

:lmao: :lmao: it was a little odd! I wouldnt have even noticed it if Alex hadnt said anything. His face doesnt, obviously.. and he is a lot stockier... But that hair.. Oh yeah. Could have been my dads hair!:lmao:

I hate hats too.. I am not a person that cares much about how I look.. but I have really curly hair, and the things that a hat does to my hair..:sad2: Not pretty. I cant wear long sleeves either. I get all hot and sweaty.. I think thats why I like it here so much! Tees and sweat shirt jackets and jeans... Im good to go!

I wear the longer length or skorts.
Plus sized shorts are made weird and scary--- either too short (fearing something will fall out or creep up when I sit) or too full in width (fear of flashing the world my undies-- fear of looking mega frumpy and even wider load in the back end)

:lmao:

I had to hunt thru my clothes to find pants, I have lots and lots of capris and lighter weight material now.. sigh.... only one pair of jeans. The boys have been fighting the transition from shorts to jeans, N wore shorts and sweat jacket today :cutie:

That's more along the lines I was thinking. Well, not the long-sleeve shirt, but if the daytime temps are supposed to be lower than 50s, I'd do long sleeves. I'll just check the forecast and see what it looks like, play it by ear. :)

Thats what Alex prefers to wear.. shorts, and his sweat shirt. I have banished all the shorts for now though. Jeans only kid!

Yeah, lots of kids are still wearing shorts up here, along with their sweatshirts. I was wearing sandals (and jeans and a long sleeve shirt) but I want my feet covered when it rains ~ I hate soggy toes! :lmao:

oh yes, hat hair.. I dread that.. Once the hat goes on-- it stays on! Unless I can repair the hairdo at some point.

I like 3/4 length, can't do long sleeves -- I pull them up if I have them. Lving in the city it's not as much of a big deal to bundle up-- there is a reason we avoid winter visits to the parents and inlaws! They would expect us to go out and play in the snow--skiiing, sliding down the driveway , ice fishing... ummm NO!
I am a city gal! And proud of it! Gimme valet indoor heated parking, skyways and fun things to see indoors.

:thumbsup2

:lmao: I KNOW!! I am pretty much only wearing crocs, and let me tell ya. THAT is really pleasant. Nothing like squishing all the way through the store. :lmao:

Oh, so I finally talked with DS4's dermatologist (actually, the nurse) today, and asked about the peanut allergy affecting the eczema. She talked with the doc, and came back and said yeah, he should be tested. So now I have to schedule an appointment with a pediatric allergist downtown. Oh joy. :headache:

Are they going to do a full on allergy test on him? Or are they just going to test him for a peanut allergy? I went with a friend of mine when she took her son to Childrens for allergy testing. THAT was fun. We had to hold the poor kid down so they could poke him a million times.

Well if he is allergic.. at least you know what to avoid and maybe his skin will clear up :yay:

I have no idea. She called down there to find a pediatrician in the asthma-allergy unit, and they told her the first appointment would be a consult, and then another one for the actual testing to be done.

I've never had testing done, but I'm allergic to something that blooms in the spring, and I think slightly allergic to grass and peanuts. (If I touch grass, it makes me itch where it touched, and if I eat peanuts or peanut butter, my nose gets itchy. )

If they DO end up doing the full on allergy testing, make sure you bring someone with you to help. Have you stopped giving him peanut stuff?? Has he cleared up any?

Yeahhh. The boy sure loves his peanut butter, though, so it's gonna be tough. This summer he begged me almost every day for a PBJ sandwich. Once I suspected peanuts, I wouldn't give him one, and his skin gradually got better. Last weekend he begged, and I caved; I barely scraped some peanut butter on one side of the sandwich, and the next day he looked horrific! Lots of red bumps, and some of them he'd scratched raw. DOH! Boneheaded thing to do, I know... :headache:

I'm trying to remember what tests my nephew had .. I know they tried to do the skin test, but he smeared it (forearm) -- not sure if that was tesing food or other allergens.
She did an elimination diet protocol to determine the gluten and then another for casein allergies. It's not an easy way, hard to explain to a young chilkd why they are eating plain rice while everyone else is eating a full meal.

Blood tests are getting more common now.

And challenge/provoked testing-- but that would be dangerous for a peanut allergy.

Try a different type of nut butter. They have all kinds.
