Day 1 Sat 21st Feb 2009
I had worried that we wouldnt hear the alarm go off at 6am so set three alarms as well as organising for my brother in law to call us on the house phone at 6.15 - I need not have worried because at 5.30 Max came into our room complaining his belly hurt (see pre trip report re the week before illness), me and OH exchanged looks and I felt Max head and realised he was running a high temp, I quickly got the medised and dosed him up, he then went to lie on the sofa, at 6.30am OH was taking the dogs for a big walk as our neighbour was going to be checking on them ie feeding and walks, throughout the weekend to save us booking them into kennels, I checked Max again and he looked really poorly, so made the decision to call our travel insurance and see where we stood on claiming our money back and cancelling the trip, however whilst on the phone Max started to cry and beg me to still let us go - my heart was torn! but the advisor said that although we could claim money back we would have to have a doctors report for that morning - being Saturday I knew that would be difficult. So we made the decision still to travel.
Max was fine all the way to Ashford (1 hours drive from our house) infact once the Medised kicked in he perked up quite a bit. We arrived at the carpark and noticed it was empty, we could easily have parked on level 1 but went up a few levels as knew the walkway was on level 5. Checked in passport control and baggage etc and walked to Departure lounge which only had a handful of families scattered about. I went to Disney Express desk and got our tickets etc and Max was given his eurostar disneyland satchel which cheered him up.
Our wait was rather short and before we knew it we were called through to the platform - carriage 18 was the last one along - typical lol. Here is our train as it arrived:
Max on the train just before we pulled out of Ashford:
The train seemed to be pretty empty, with just two other families in our carriage and the next carriage completely empty, just as well as 10 mins before we pulled into Disney Max threw up all over me!!!!!! Managed to clean us both up and change clothes in the train toilet, gave him some water to sip and the colour returned to his cheeks. Started to think we had made the wrong decision though!
Arrived at Disney Express checkpoint (something I was so glad we booked and will always continue to do so on future trips) awaiting for us was this happy chappy:
We went straight into Walt Disney Studios:
First ride was Armagedeon which Max loved, we had never done this before and was glad we chose it this time as it really took Max mind off of things, we then headed for the Motor Stunt show, it was packed, they really rammed us all in. Little Max face was so pale but he loved the show, he then said he was hungry and tired, so we headed to mcdonalds - didnt want to risk a restaurant and have him chuck up whilst people were eating, so we sat outside in the little sheltered areas eating our big macs whilst max managed to eat 2 chicken nuggets and some fruit. We then decided to head to Santa Fe and check in and let Max rest, we had no wait for check in, our bags were one of the last to be collected and we were in our room within 15 mins of arriving at the hotel - we always walk from hotel to park - never bother waiting for the bus, we enjoy the walk and it helps burn those extra cals off too!!!!
Our room was spotless and both OH and Max laid on the bed and were soon snoring away, I settled down with some chocolate and a magazine, then had a lovely hot bath whilst they slept on! at 5pm both woke up and Max was so much better - relief!!!
We then headed to the Disney park and this is where excitement took over illness for Max, as it was getting dark and everything was sparkling it took his breathe away and he was so happy - thank god!!! we headed for Buzz ride:
Then its a small world:
On the way back we saw the castle being lit which was breathtaking:
We stopped off to buy Max a goofy hat and some water and then took a slow walk back to Disney village to the Buffalo Bills show, now I loved this show thought it was well worth the money even though I didnt particularly like the food, it was also nice to see we were upgraded from cat 2 seating to cat 1 so had tortillas and salsa as well as cakes and coffee, unlimited drinks too, whenever my glass was empty it was refilled and both Max and OH both had 2 bottles of water. Some pics:
When the show finished it was 11pm so we walked back to the hotel and fell into our lovely comfy beds after setting alarm for 6.45am
Weather - No rain, lots of cloud, we never felt cold but we did have thermal underwear, I had snow boots and Max had his snowsuit and snow boots courtesy of ebay! tbh I love coming this time of year, have never done a summer trip - yet!
be back soon with Day 2.
