The House, The Mouse, The Souse, The Blouse, The Louse, and The Grouse

Dates: May 30 thru June 3, 2005
Cast: Me (56), Mrs. Rusty (55)

The House:
The main purpose of the trip was to buy a house in the Orlando area. During our Feb-2005 trip we did some preliminary scouting, and wanted to finalize something. We are tired of the snow and gray skies during the winter. We went back to the communities we scouted, and found three good prospects. We settled on one, and ended up with a 4-bedroom, 2-bath home! We got it for 22% below asking and 17% below appraised value. The owner was a Brit who over stayed their visas. They had to leave the country. They agreed to our offer, if we agreed to close by June-30h. No problem! We transferred money, and will buy the house outright on June-30. We will hopefully move in about August-1. (We want to build a large “Florida Room” screen porch and “bug bomb” the house inside and out. Once we are in, we will decide where to look for work.

The Mouse:
We were too busy to actually visit a park. In addition, it rained HARD all week. I pitied the people who came down for a vacation. We did visit Downtown Disney for shopping and lunch at Rain Forrest Café. IT was busy, briefly, but we got a table RIGHT AWAY by flashing the Safari Club card. Some folks waiting in the rain were a little upset. Then I bought the new “Castle” wine stopper and complete the collection with the “Sorcerer Hat” stopper.

We returned the hotel and read the paper, as well as the community association newsletter. Disney is REALLY recruiting! They have ads in the paper for full and part time. They also have a Job Fair at the community on June-15 and July-6. Wow! When did you last hear WDW running ads help? Since we would not be there during the Job Fair, I called the number provided and made an inquiry. When I described my experience, she said I should apply to Professional Staffing. I told he I did not want to continue my management work or roller coaster design work, I wanted to just work a regular job. She said to call when we came back into town, and she’d arrange an interview. Who knows, maybe it will work. (Film at Eleven.)

The Souse:
We visited the Boardwalk on Wednesday evening. It had rained during the day, so we were not surprised by the lack of crowds at 7:00pm. We went into Jellyrolls, and were the only people there at 7:10pm. The pianos start at 8:00pm, so this was no big deal. At 8:00pm, one single guy came in. When the pianists came on stage, we announced that WE were the audience tonight. Although low in numbers, we were enthusiastic. Another couple joined us at 8:30pm. We didn’t see anyone else until almost 8:15pm. Fortunately, they were about one-half full when we finally left at about 10:15pm. Things were pretty good right up until about 10:00pm. One guy got so loaded, that he became quite boisterous. He yelled and talked and interrupted songs and conversation. We wondered when the bouncers would do something. They finally removed the guy – after he barfed on the floor near his table. (Cleanup on Aisle Twelve!)

The Blouse:
Once we left, we thought we would watch the street performers. Oh well, nice try. The place was so dead, that there were NO performers. In fact, all the booths had closed except the painter. Once she completed her sketch, she closed. We walked around almost by ourselves. We then stopped for a ice cream cone at the Sweet Shop. I was backing out of the door carrying my cone, packages, and umbrellas. I then turned around, and (yep, you guessed it). Walked right into a lady. All I saw afterward was my double-dip-Butter-Pecan-waffle-cone on a blue blouse. She was not too upset, and I offered to buy her a cone. She said that it was actually her fault and asked to replace MY cone. We talked for a minute, and decided to go Dutch. Interesting end to a evening, as I thought.

The Louse:
We continued to walk the Boardwalk (alone) while finishing or cones. We wanted to get rid of them before we retrieved our car from the $8 Valet Parking. There was this one guy very loudly complaining about it being Gay-Week at Disney. Now, I have my own feelings, but I do not literally shout it out on the Boardwalk. Another guy came along and tried to reason with the loud guy. He would just not shut up! All of a sudden, what appeared to be a chocolate milk shake ended up on the head of the yeller! He yelled even louder. Two security guards came along and quieted things down. They then took the yeller away. They asked me what I saw, and I told them. I heard them ask the helping guy if it was his drink that ended up on the other man’s head. He said yes. The guards then promptly bought him another drink! Nice touch, I thought.

The Grouse:
The following day, we were driving around “exploring”. We needed to learn a little more about our new hometown. I call it exploring, because “if you call it exploring, you are not lost!” Directions, I don’t need no stinking directions! We were on some back street when this grouse jumped up and ran in front of the car. Bam! I got him! Fur and feathers went everywhere. There was a slight dent in the rental car grill, but that was all. (The nice EZ Rental Car people did not charge me for it.) Mrs. Rusty said it was a pheasant. I said it was a grouse. (Besides pheasant isn’t easy to work into the title of this posting.)

Recap:
Overall, it was a good trip. We went to buy a house and we accomplished our task. We didn’t get too much park time, but that will come shortly.

I love the title of your report. Congratulations on your new house. Can't wait to read more reports when you visit often. ::MinnieMo

Love the title and the report! I want to know though, after you hit the grouse, did you pluck the feathers and offer it for dinner under glass? Kidding..

Congrats on your new house near the Mouse and may your rental car hit no more grouse. After all that did you then take a side trip to Taos with your Spouse? :rotfl:

Good luck on your Orlando job search. It would be cool if you ended up in Corporate Disney, so we could have some more insider insight on these boards :earboy2:

Look forward to more trip reports. I expect you to use your new found time in Orlando wisely ;)

Congratulations! It is a dream of mine to live in Florida, near Orlando. I am about 10 years away from my dream becoming a reality.

You designed roller coasters?? WOW! Here in Rockaway Beach, NY we once had a great wooden roller coaster, in Playland. All gone now, just pictures and great memories.

Again, congratulations on your new home.

Cute Report! I like the detail.
Can you tell me the # for the Job fair. (Is that against the rules? Maybe PM) My husband is very interested in working for Disney! :cool1:

Hope it all works out for you. Good Luck!
