Saturday 17th April 2004 ~ Part 2
OK - to pick up where we left off . Laura had just done Sky Venture, Alexandra had a major teenage strop and Alison and I wanted a large amount of alcohol to be able to cope with the aforementioned kids but restrained ourselves! We decided in the end to do the right thing - so Laura played on the beach, Alison packed and I took Alexandra for her treat - a 45 minute watermouse trip on Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon!
Laura had a lovely time - was very contented just sitting playing in the sand just outside the room while Alison packed. There wasnt a great deal of packing to do really as when we left the villa we fully packed and locked one case and then wed sort of been packing as we went along after that.
The watermice were a real blast and we managed to zip around both Bay Lake and 7 seas lagoon causing chaos wherever we went - no thanks to Alexandra's manic driving. J It was great fun flying through the wake of bigger boats! We arrived back at the pontoon feeling very exhilarated and rather wet!
We went back to the room to see how the packing was going (just about done) and we all went for a swim in the main pool. The pool here at the Contemporary was good fun - with a slide and a water spray - but as at most of the Disney Hotels practically no deep end, which can be a little frustrating - and rough on your knees!!
After an hour or so, we left the pool and headed back to the room to get reeady for our evening meal - wed made a PS for O'Hanas at the Poly to celebrate our last evening.
We were looking forward to this meal but we were a little disappointed. I suspect that this may have been down to our expectations being high, as well as the fact that we were seated around the back away from the main room so we couldnt see much. Also we had a miserable waiter - he didnt do anything actively bad or wrong - but just didnt try very hard or appear happy. Whatever it was I just didn't get a "buzz" from this place.
We decided to hit the alcohol as we werent driving at all this evening - Alison had a fruity cocktail (which she loved) and I had a Wasabi ****** Mary - my goodness it was undrinkable! - it felt as if I made an enemy of the barman - blah! Apparently it was the Wasabi in it that made it very spicy - so I swapped it out for a couple of beers and had done with it. (We were charged for the cocktail but not the beers).
After youre seated you are brought a platter of appetisers -
Stir Fried Green Beans and Onions
Salad with Honey Lime Dressing
Shrimp and Vegetable Wonton
Honey Coriander Chicken Wings
Stir-Fried Rice
And then pretty quickly your server starts bringing round 3 foot long skewers and sliding off chunks of the meat etc onto your plate.
Grilled Tiger Shrimp
Marinated Sirloin Steak
Mesquite Seasoned Turkey Breast
Barbecue Pork Loin
Dipping Sauces: Fruit, Peanut and Bar-B-Que
The food was quite good - although the steak may not be to everyones taste as it was quite rare.
The children could have either the same as the adults or they could have a burger and fries (Laura had the burger).
Desserts cost extra, although fresh pineapple and warm caramel dipping sauce was included in the price. (This was delicious!)
The total cost was about $86 including 2 cocktails - Im pleased weve done this but we probably wouldnt hurry back.
After the meal we wandered around the Poly reliving memories from when we stayed here in 2001, before hopping back on the monorail to go to the Contemporary to get ready for a last visit to the Magic Kingdom.
We hopped back onto the monorail round to the Magic Kingdom
(sitting up front again! We managed to do this 4 times this holiday in total) and decided to do a few rides before watching the fireworks at 10pm. We knew the early Spectromagic at 9pm would be very busy, so thought wed take advantage and try to do a few rides before trying to get a good viewing spot. We managed to do Buzz Lightyear, TTA and queued up for Splash Mountain but it broke down while we were in line.
We ducked out of the line so we could get a good view for the fireworks and ended up in a superb position for Wishes. Tinkerbell flew right over our heads - which was wonderful - never seen her up so close! After the fireworks were over most people headed straight for the exit - we just wandered around, drinking in the atmosphere. Does anyone else just love Tomorrowland after dark? All that neon!
About 15 minutes before the late parade (11pm) we sat on the kerb at the top end of Main Street and waited for Spectro. It was a wonderful spot (again) - the girls received lots of interaction from the characters during the parade and it was a wonderful view for us. A superb end to the evening!
Alison and Alexandra walked back to the Contemporary which only took about 10 minutes while Laura and I rode the monorail, as she was tired.
Weather: hot and sunny - perfect and a warm evening.
Plan for tomorrow: Last bit of packing and going home - Boo Hoo!
