The Hopping Mad Easter Tour - 2004

Shaun - 40 something ‘If it’s high fat, high sugar I’ll eat it’
Alison - 30 something 'If it’s not Atkins I won’t eat it’
Alexandra - 10 ‘Can we play mini-golf? Can we? Can we? Can we? Can we?’
Laura - 8 'If I’m tall enough I’ll ride it'

Saturday 17th April 2004

We all woke at about 8:30 and decided on the food court for breakfast (I don’t think I mentioned that we bought the refillable mugs here as well - we ended up with quite a collection for the holiday overall, as we also bought them at Pop Century and Coronado Springs! LOL)

We ate: -
2 x Breakfast platters (eggs, bacon, etc etc) for myself and Alexandra
Croissant and toast for Laura
Eggs and bacon for Alexandra

bottle of water
strawberry milkshake

Total about $24

Back to the room to gather up bits for the day and decide on what to do. We gave the girls a choice of a one major activity to do each (preferably one that didn't involve mini-golf!) and it could be one that had to be paid for (ie not a theme park!)

Laura chose Sky Venture as she'd been talking about this since before we left home but Alexandra couldn't decide. She'd thought about Parasailing but this was very costly at $135 at Sammy Duval’s at the Contemporary. We said that we'd drive out to Skyventure on I Drive and give Alexandra the chance to think about what she'd like to do.

We asked at the desk about prices and availability and luckily they had a slot available that morning at a cost of about $33 for Laura. We chatted with the girl behind the desk who said that they let children ‘fly’ from the age of 5! Alison went with Laura to go for her training session while Alexandra and I watched some pros go through their routines in the wind tunnel. Laura had to watch a training video along with the rest of her group (about 9 of them, although she was the youngest by quite a way!) and then practice her positioning. All the group had to get kitted up in one piece flying suits, ear plugs, helmets and goggles.

The group all had to practice their signs so that they could follow instructions in the wind tunnel, which was extremely noisy!

They all lined up and poor Laura was the first one up! This was because of her weight (or lack of it!) as they turn the air flow on low and then increase it for each subsequent and heavier person. She was a bit shaky and tearful although the instructor was very kind and understanding.
(BTW Anyone can go into the viewing area at no charge if undecided about doing it!).

Laura had about 1 or 2 minutes flying time with the instructor in the tunnel as well and then she joined the back of the queue again. When everyone had had their first go, she had another turn. She enjoyed it most of all when the instructor signed to the air flow people to turn it up higher, and he kept hold of her and they flew together!

She had a big smile on her face - absolutely loving it!

After everyone had their second go, she got changed and joined the rest of the family.
After the event Laura was REALLY happy and we asked Alexandra if she wanted a go but she declined. I think that she was in two minds but just couldn't bring herself to do it. This coupled with not knowing what to do she reverted back into "Kevin" mode and worked herself up into a real state - If this is what Teenage years are going to be then I'm going to move out!
We wandered down to the exit (and the obligatory gift shop) and Laura decided to buy herself a sky venture sticker - but the kind lady behind the counter wouldn’t take any money for it and said she could have it for free (which impressed Alexandra even more!!)

Anyway - Alexandra decided that she wanted to try Hawaiian Rumble mini golf. The weather was roasting, the course was pants and Alexandra stropped all the way round - oh well, at least it was cheap at $18 all in. We left the course and bought some ice creams while Alison had a girl-to girl talk with Alexandra (I just kept out of the way trying not to wince at the sounds of loud slaps and the screams of “YOU UNGRATEFUL CHILD!!!” (Only joking!!) ;) )

We went back to the hotel and on the way we managed to talk Alexandra round to having a session on the Water mice although she did say "Actually, I'd like to give Skyventure a go now!" - Aaaarrggghhhh! We discussed going back - but after a while she said she’d really prefer a water mouse trip instead!

Alexandra and I decided on a 45 min session while Laura played on the sand and Alison did some packing - I mean, it's not something that I'm any good at - LOL (Alison here - great, Laura does Skyventure, Shaun and Alexandra do the Water mice - and what do I do? Packing!!)

Rest of this day to be continued……..

Sky Venture that sounds good saw it a few times might try it in January thanks for the idea

"If this is what Teenage years are going to be then I'm going to move out!"

Funny with a pre-teen at home I've heard this phrase often over the last couple of months!

Laura looks very cute in her gear.
