Day 3 – Thursday, 2nd August 2007 – Animal Kingdom, Royal Pacific, Universal Studios

We all had a goodnight’s sleep. We did wake up in the night but went back off to sleep. Since we started making ourselves stay up till 11 pm Florida time we have never suffered the early morning wake ups like we used to do.

We got up at 6.30 am, had bath and showers and were also relieved that the eldest got up smashing. We sorted the bags ready for moving today to the park view rooms but decided to leave the valuables in a security box. The rooms had safes but with leaving these rooms we thought we wouldn’t have the use of them.

The hotel’s security box system was like going in Fort Knox with people having matching keys and having to turn them at the same time. There were also a few doors to go through. After doing all this we decided to skip breakfast and just go straight to Animal Kingdom.

Before we went there was a knock on the door. I looked through the peep hole and couldn’t see anyone. I thought it was one of the lads messing about so I opened the door and there was this little cute girl all dressed in pink. She was holding a bucket of ice and thought it was her room. I told her of her mistake so she thought it was the room next door but I said that was our room too. I think if I had let her knock at that door and I popped out again she would have done a double take. Anyway I was a bit disturbed that a child so young about 6-7 was going round knocking of doors especially with Madeline being fresh in my mind. Turned out her room was a couple of doors away.

The weather today was very overcast and cloudy but warm. Not exactly the bright sunny day we were expecting.

Just before going into Animal Kingdom I made a reservation for the Rainforest Café for 4.30 pm. My youngest had been to a trip to Paris with college and had visited the café at Disneyland Paris and had raved on about it ever since. So this trip it was on the priority list to try.

Once the park was open we headed with the crowds straight to Everest. My hubbie got fast passes whilst we lined up. We rode it, excellent ride and then hit Kali. Naturally on Kali we got wet, being the chosen ones to face the back of the drop. It had started to rain so as we were already wet it didn’t bother us at the time getting any wetter, don’t think we could have really.

We fast passed the safari ride and then had our best ride on it. The animals are so much more active when it is raining. The hippos were moving, the elephants playing in the water and the lioness was sat right at the top of the highest rock. We also had another go on Everest and the safari ride. The latter was easy to get on without a FP because of the rain.

It moved.

By this time I was beginning to feel cold, yes cold in Florida! The combination of wet clothes and a slight drop in temperature had made me feel decidedly chilly. My only option was to buy a mic mac as we call them. Those plastic bags with hoods. Everyone was wearing them by this time as the rain was quite heavy. As soon as I said I was getting one, both kids said they wanted one too. I was amazed I didn’t think in a month of Sundays they would wear one – that is how cold they were feeling. Hubbie wouldn’t wear one and preferred to stick it out. As soon as we slipped the macs on we felt warm. Hurrah!

I had tried a churro for the first time, which the kids also helped me eat. For breakfast we had just grabbed a fruit salad from the stall near the safari ride and as we had booked the Rainforest for tea we didn’t want to have too much for lunch. Me and the hubbie had apple pie and the kids shared a pizza at the Pizzarafi place.

As we were all saying how warm we now felt with mic macs on the hubbie decided to join us. He felt a lot better once he got it on but had us all in stitches when he first put it on because he ended up with the hood over his face, which really looked funny.

We had a go on the dinosaur ride which was good and walked round all the animals. It was a shame I couldn’t take many photos because of the rain. We were still enjoying ourselves but it was uncomfortable being cold and wet.

Not holiday weather.

As we had done everything we wanted to do and were starting to feel cold again, the youngest suggested trying to go to the Rainforest now (2 ish). (Inside the macs water was condensing as our clothes were drying out). There was no problem getting a seat early and we had a lovely meal. We all very much enjoyed being in the restaurant.

The eldest had steak and shrimps, the youngest rasta pasta and me snapper fish. I am not a fishy person but it was delicious. I took some photos then we headed back up the I4 to the hotel.

Our new rooms were not ready so we went back to the old ones and changed into dry clothes. Can you believe it I put long trousers on and a fleece, I felt that cold. Bliss being in dry clothes. We then went back down to reception and our new rooms were ready. They were class, on floor 3 which was the same floor as the reception. This was handy because we didn’t need to wait for lifts and a big plus for the kids you could see Dr Doom and The Hulk from their window. In the room were our Loews gifts of wine and nuts plus cookies and milk.

We went to Universal, it was nice just being able to walk there AND the rain had stopped AND it was warm (especially in a fleece and long trousers). First stop The Mummy and for the first time I didn’t get banged around on it. I quite enjoyed it. We went on twice. The FOTL passes were brilliant, straight on instead of a 30 minute line.

Next Twister, loved the cow.

The kids were desperate to get on Men in Black, they both get scores in the region of 500,000 to 800,000. We enjoyed it but the hubbie felt sick after the first go so went off and had a coffee whilst we went on again. I had another go before meeting back up with the hubbie and leaving the kids to go on it for as many times as they wanted.

The kids heading to MiB

The kids liked one of the attendants, Carlos, who wanted to know if they were pirates or ninjas. He wanted them to say ninjas, and he high fived the youngest when he put his hand up. He was a very lively CM and made the ride more enjoyable.

Next ET. They were supposed to say their names were Bob. As the youngest went through and said the wrong name, my hubbie said in his funny American voice ‘hey that’s not his name’ which had me in a fit of giggles. Why they have to say the wrong name, I don’t know, but it gives them much amusement.

Next Terminator 3D followed by Shrek. In Terminator 3D there was a lass sitting in front of me who was flinching like mad which was so funny to watch.

Afterwards we headed back to the hotel, the kids were shattered and the youngest was straight to sleep. Orlando holidays certainly make you tired by night time.

Aww thanks Bev, I love that little smilie:wave2: ;)

Looking forward to reading more of your reports:thumbsup2

Thanks Mandy. I enjoyed writing it up today. Feeling a touch sad today because the eldest has gone back to America today to visit friends. He has just turned 19 but still it is a big step for us all having him travel by himself. I am just hoping he gets through immigration okay and gets his connecting flight to Minneapolis from Detroit. Sorry for going off topic. Just been watching his little plane on a flight path thing and it is pretty daunting for me, as his Mum, thinking of him being all that way from us.

what a fab day :thumbsup2 shame about the weather !!

did your ds get to America ok ??

Thanks Nat, yes he did, landed at 2 am this morning. I was just relieved he had got through customs and made his connecting flight (only a hour from landing to do this). He was met at the airport by 2 of his friends. He has gone for a month, then he has a week home before going back down to York to start the second year of his degree in Biology. I feel like I can relax a bit now.:)

Two big parks in one day very well done. When we stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel a couple of years ago we were very impressed with the Front of the line passes. Almost so that we hardly visit Universal nowadays without them.

Great report and photos

We are staying at Hard Rock next year, I don't think I could do without FOTL passes any more after experiencing them.:)
