I guess it was going to happen sooner or later. Since I have caught the "fever" not many people have been able to understand how much it means to me to be in parks. Just recently I was at work and was trying to explain why I love Disneyland so much. Well, the only thing that I was successful at was getting made fun of, ALL DAY LONG. Is it just not possible for everyone to appreciate Disneyland on the level that I do? Has anyone else had an experience like mine?

OH, yeah! In fact, most people in the world that one encounters do not have Disney fever and are hard-pressed to understand this obsession of ours.

The good side is that when people I know ARE planning a Disney trip, they almost always get referred to ME for advice--which I am oh-so-happy to give.:)

The hardest thing is when one of your own children loses the magic. My DD-13 has suddenly proclaimed Disneyland (pardon me, please) "boring" and would much rather go to a soul-less thrill ride amusement park. :scared1:

I am thinking of putting her up for adoption...

Terry, the exact same thing is going on with me...Can you believe my dd says I ruined DL for her?:scared1: :sad2: of all the nerve...Its a miracle I am even getting her to go next weekend...and to the OP...I get this every single day of my life...be glad its only at work...I get it there and at home as well...no respect...no respect i tell ya:sad1:

I get this all the time too! I have successfully converted a few friends but they are few and far between. People treat me like I have a sickness (I guess is kinda is!!!) They just don't understand us here!

Especially when I explain that I frequent a board solely about DL, you'd think I had grown an extra head or something. But that's okay, those people just aren't young at heart and I feel bad for them that they miss out on something so wonderful.

I also think it has a little bit to do with memories. DL is a part of my childhood I am not willing to let go, although in rare cases like Lynn's above, it backfires. I also find that people think admitting they like DL will make them seem childish or babyish. Puh-lease, all it admits is that you know how to have a good time and I am not interested in what others think!!!

Atleast we have each other here at the DIS and can go on pretending that everyone feels the same as us!!

nothing...I did nothing but take her and we always did what she wanted...she just says she cant stand going there anymore...one thing she says is I go way too much and for too long...if she only went for one day once a year she might could deal with it

Okay well if it wasn't the trips, something horrible must have happened in her younger years to make her go insane! :lmao: Just kidding, I hope and wish every day that my kids grow up to love Disney as much as I do because I don't wanna have to disown them. You know that old saying, "DL is thicker than water"

:welcome: to the DIS! You've found the right place for DL obsession.

  That was only your FIRST FULL DAY of being made fun of! Get used to it!!! :confused3

That's why I became a travel agent! lol.. I can talk about Disney all day long and no one makes fun of me...and I get paid for it! :)

And if I tell my boss I'm going to WDW, DL or on the DCL they really can't say no- it is work experience after all :)

Sorry to hear that. I think many times that DL is just not the "bomb" when they get her age. They do not want to be seen around the young adults that are in the park and my god, not the parents. We give ours a fair amount of space when we go to the park but not so much we can not jerk their chains when we need to.
Believe it or not, they like being with the old guy. I will ride space or screamin 100 times if that is what they want. They are always trying to find something I won't do..it gives them an excuse.

Ok they thought it was funny I wore my dress up Mickey shirt to work yeaturday , the one with the sequins. My husband thinks I am a psycho and swears every trip is our last! I chose DL over 10 days at the beach this year. I start out the day saying I will not talk to others then family about the trip and CAN'T stop blabbering on and on! Thank God for you guys , at least we share a common bond:hug:

Oh Lynn , if you could see the look on DS7's face when I told him what your daughter said..............he could not believe it! He is following in mommy's footsteps for sure! Maybe we can do an intervention!

You are so right!! At least we have the DIS! :cool1: DH and I have annual passes and try to go once a month. We drop DD15 at high school (she doesn't want to miss school anymore) and off we go for the day! We always have a ton of fun - but you all know that!! And the looks we get from friends and coworkers goes something like this  :confused3 "Disneyland - again?" Oh well, they just don't get it!

This is the reason I married someone that worked at WDW with me. We are both nuts and I have someone to back me up when I get made fun of. His employees think he's a pansy for knowing all the princesses and having the Fantasmic! song on his phone. I just call him a good daddy.

Our family kind of understands since we worked there but I'm sure when we are talking aboiut it they politely smile but inside they are thinking "does she ever talk about anything else?"

Hmmmm, maybe I should become a travel agent!!!:rotfl:

I wanted to be a travel agent growing up , maybe that is why I enjoy planning these trips so much!

My co-workers teased me ALL THE TIME about my love for Disney. I have a large souvenier map of DCA on my cubicle wall and a Stitch plush on my desk. They teased me now and then but sometimes their comments stung a little. I try not to let it get to me and I'm not taking down my DCA map or removing Stitch just because of their comments.

They used to say how crazy I was for driving 1-2 hrs. just to go to DL and how insane it was to have a Premium AP. Well eventually they stopped teasing me. They started asking me questions like: "Say, my wife and I want to bring the kids to Disneyland or that new CA park. Which one is better?" I swear, all the co-workers that teased me ended up asking me "trip advice" for their families. One co-worker who quit last year called me at work recently to ask how much tickets are because his out of state relatives were flying in. Oh the irony.... :sad2:

I know how you feel too. I have had people at work do the same thing and they think that even going more than once every 5 years is crazy. Well that is why I come here to be with people like me who love it.

I am lucky in that my 15 year old still likes to go. I know that she is to the age where she would rather go with people her own age but we have 5 in my family and I am sorry I can't afford to "bring" a friend not to mention my car only holds 5 people. Of course my daughter is getting to the age where she doesn't want to be seen with us ANYWHERE not just Disney LOL.

But I never had a problem going with my parents as a teen, I was just happy to go. Of course I only got to go once or twice so I guess maybe that was the difference.

People think we spoil our kids from going so much but as I said I didn't get to go very much as a child and since I can do it really cheap with my AP, driving and getting great deals on hotels it is the cheapest easiest thing we CAN do and it just happens to be my most favorite thing.

Life does crop up though and I had to cancel our trip this month and our trip in June but now my mom is trying to work out a trip for July. Sure I am going to go through MAJOR withdrawals and it is hard knowing that in 2 weeks I was supposed to leave. I had to unpack my suitcase which was really hard and when that day gets here I know I will be sad but luckily we were just there in December so I just keep telling myself that I was JUST there and July will be here before I know it and we are going in Oct no matter what.

SOOO you just have to let what people say roll off and come here! This place is great and acknowleging our love for disney and it makes you feel like you are not nuts! :)
