The Grumpy Sausage Lady

Just back from a great family trip to the Oakland Coliseum to see the A's play...and beat the Angels. Part of the treat of going to the ball park is the food. The Saag's sausage stand caught my attention as I headed to our seats in the bleachers, and at the top of the 6th inning, I headed that direction for a Sweet Italian Sausage. With only 14,000 fans at the game, there were no lines at any of the food stands I stepped up to order, and a very rude lady shouted, "we're closed". Okay, being that it was only the 6th inning, I was surprised, and kind of stood there for a few seconds, long enough to see two other potential customers get the same rude treatment. Only then, after one of the other victims of the rude sausage lady mentioned it, did I notice they had a grill full of unsold sausages. I bet there were at least 40 of them there. I went from being angry with the rude sausage lady, to outraged. You've got the food ready to be served...you've got the customers asking to buy them, why on earth would you not sell them? Okay, it's not the end of the world, but I bet those sausages ended up in the trash. Such a waste.

I have been in your shoes before. She probable had a cook out at home and forgot to get Sausage, and cooked 40 extra to take home.

Ended up with a BBQ Beef sandwich, the stand was the closest to our seats. Of course, I had walked down and back from the Sausage place first!

It's possible that she had already closed the cash register and therefore couldn't ring you up (no excuse for her rudeness though!). However, I worked sports concessions as a fundraiser last year, and employees/volunteers were allowed to take home unsold meat. Just sayin...

What also could have happened was her boss made her close the stand early and she was mad to be missing out on the hours. Maybe her boss was having the cookout and wanted the extras and she was mad because it cost her the money she would have made if she stayed open.

Next time - walk over to the Kinder's stand! mmmm....you can either get the RB bbq'd or like a sandwich with lettuce, tomato & mayo.

Not that it does any good now, but they have a "customer concern" number you can call while at the game. I think it's mainly to complain about rude fans sitting near you, but you could inform management about the situation at the Saag's stand. Unfortunately, Aramark runs the concessions, not the A's or the Coliseum.

I'm about Kinders out....they're at Raley Field too, home of the River Cats, the A's AAA team. Yeah, not a big fan of Aramark.

Guess each company has their own policy. My wife used to work at a movie theater snack bar. Closing out the cash register was the last thing they did, because the owner was cheap and wanted to make every penny he could. If there was a customer, and the item was available, they were open!! They even had to count cups, and the number of cups missing better equal the number of sodas sold.

Okay. I was back at the Oakland Colesium for last night and today's games.
I encountered a different sausage lady. Luz was so nice, 180 degrees out from the boss. Got my Sweet Italian Sausage sandwich. Got Kinders BBQ today. The sausage place is 1 for 2, which is 500, which is pretty good in baseball.
