Hi guys

Does anyone know if there is a strategy to seeing the different versions of the Great Movie Ride? I have been on this ride 6 or 7 times, and only once have we ever seen the bank robbery version.

Has it got anything to do with how you queue or which vehicle you end up in? Or is it just pot luck?

Thanks.

IIRC, the two scenes alternate. Two cars are going through the GMR one right after the other, and one gets the Western scene while the other gets the bank robbery simultaneously. That's why the door closes either right behind your tram or right in front of it before the "disruption" starts.

I'm pretty sure the cars in the back get stuck in the gangster shootout, and the front cars see the bank robbery in the Old West. If you ask to sit in one of the front 2 cars your should get to see the bank robbery.

That's great, thanks very much, Bob & JMD. I will be asking to sit up front at Easter when we are next in the World.

The car you get in doesn't "split" so it won't matter if you are in the front or not... that car will stop either one. I believe there is another group of cars with a different driver right in front or back of you doing the opposite.. but your driver is your driver... I have sat right behind a driver and the whole tram right behind you stops at the same place. I hope that it makes sense. I don't know if there is any real way to know which one you're going to stop at..... I DO know that the last few times I have been on it I have only seen the gangsters also!

Hi Nancy

Yes, it's strange isn't it?! I would have thought the law of averages would have meant we would have seen the bank robbery more than once! Ah well, I guess I'll just keep trying....

I think there are four cars total. 2 up front with one driver and 2 in the back with the other driver. The front 2 continue on to the bank robbery, the back 2 stay in the gangster scene. Thats what I meant by sit up front, if your in the back 2 cars with the second driver, you will not see the bank robbery.

It also depends on how many cars they are loading.

The loading/unloading platform has space for 2 2-car trains. If they are loading at full capacity then the front set will get one scene and the back set will get the other scene.

If they are running both sets of cars they will probably load the left hand side of the line to the back and the right hand side to the front. Depending on which scene you want to see you will need to get on that particualr line when you enter the queue. Unfortunately there is no way to know if they are running one or two sets of cars without going through line.

I think you have to be in the second tram to get the gangster shoot out. Somehow I usually end up in the first one so I've seen the western shootout many more times.

Thanks to everyone for the helpful replies. I will certainly be trying to get into the right hand queue and getting up front. This makes a lot of sense to me as we do tend to get put near the back as a general rule.

I remember last September the ride hung up @ the Tarzan part for about 20 minutes!! Then again on the Casablanca scene... Haha. It happens with those character action rides!

The best way to get the scene you want is to ask the CM about it. They are very good about trying to accomodate....

If you come upon a point in the line where you can either go to the right or to the left, going right will put you in the cowboy vehicle. Going left gives you gangster. Sometimes they direct people one way or another so you don't get a choice.

If you're not sure which way you went in the line, the front vehicle is cowboy and the back one is gangster.

That's right. The front-loading line is for the bank robber. The back-loading line is for the bandit. The best way to get the one you want is to ask out front. They can direct you to the right line. I think the bank robber is the better of the two, BTW.

When you get into line, you'll walk through some movie prop displays in an area that looks more like a hallway. Then you'll come into a large "theater" room with a movie screen showing various clips. The line splits right as you enter the "theater" portion of the queue, and this is where you'll want to stick to the right. Then, as long as the both portions are being shown, you should get the cowboy scene. I think in slower times they only run the gangster scene, and it won't matter which line you are in. Like somebody said, ask a CM near the start of the queue so you know ahead of time if both scenes are being run.

That's correct.....last year, they were roping this "option" off as we were entering due to crowd levels, so I ask the CM with the rope if we could go through, since we wanted that scence. She said she wasn't sure if they were still running the two scenes, but to ask the CM seating us....which we did and they were! Yeah! It took me several years to figure this one out......it happens right as you enter the room, so when there is no real queue in the prop room sometimes you don't even notice it!

Thanks again to everyone. It sounds to me as though there is a possibility that they were only showing the one option - especially as we usually go at a fairly quiet time of year. Perhaps I will fair better at Easter! I will definitely try to get to the front though.

I agree, Joanna, I thought the bank robbery option was better, but perhaps this is just because it is a novelty to me!! :rotfl:

Be warned though, during slow times, they may only show one of the scenes. Last time the cowboy scene was not being done. At least that's what the CM said when we asked to be in that car.
