I just watched both versions of the ride to see if my kids will be scared when we go in the Fall. Anyways, are there certain times they run one version over the other? Is it random?

I think at least one of my kids would like both versions, but I'm not sure if it's possible to see them both.

I would love to know this too - in all my trips, we have only ever seen the gangster version. I would love to see the other one.

Didnt even know there was a version other than the gangster version, only one ive ever seen.

I have heard there is a cowboy version but I have only ever seen the gangster version. I would love to see the other if possible.

The first car gets one scene, the second car gets the other scene. So both scenes are done daily.

One is the scene with the shoot out with the gangsters in the car. The other is the bank robbery scene where the bank is set on fire. What scene you get just depends on what car your put in

It's my understanding that both versions run at the same time and depending on which vehicle you are in, you either stop in the gangster scene, or in the west scene, and you get the corresponding character. I've ridden five times and have seen both, bandit 2x and gangster 3x. Not sure if both always run, or just at busier times. I was also told by others that you can request to a cast member to seat you in one or the other, I've never tried though.

Okay...I'm going to ask after the first time and see if they can accommodate my request. Or maybe I'll just ask for the cowboy version at the beginning.

The gangster is always running. The cowboy scene is cut out during slower periods. I've asked twice to see the cowboy scene and was accommodated both times. Without asking, I've seen the Cowboy scene once out of 6 times.

We have been going Oct. for the last few years and last year I asked specifically to ride in the Cowboy scene as we had never done that. It was mid morning and I was told that it was not running at that time and to try back later in the day. Well DHS is a half day park for us so we never went back. It may run but not all day. YMMV this was our experience- I'm going to try again this Oct.

the first time we rode, my ds was about 6 and the gangster was right next to him, he (my ds) was scared, he kept inching over closer to me. I had to whisper to him that it was make believe and not to be scared.
But then at the Indiana Jones show, he believed that it was the real Indiana as in Harrison Ford, he even went down after the show to meet him. Found out many years later that he had still believed for years that he had met Harrison. It was only at a later trip that he figured out that it was an actor but not Harrison Ford and he got quite upset.

I've asked the CM at loading and they've always placed us in the requested scene. There have been times that only the gangster scene was in use so there may not be an option but the CM's are very accommodating to requests.

I've been where only the gangster scene was running and times when there's both running, I don't know how accurate it is but it seems like every time I've been in a longer SB line they are only using one car. Mostly I just take whatever since I've seen them both, but sometimes if I see that they're loading both cars I'll go through the line again (again because it seems like when they are loading both cars the wait time in SB is negligible) and ask to be in the 'cowboy' car.

There are indeed two scenes, the gangster scene (1) and the wild west scene (2), the gangster scene is the primary scene that is used at all times of operation, this is why most people have only seen the gangster scene, the wild west scene is only used during peak periods of the day when the ride is operating at full capacity. If two entire ride vehicles (four total cars) depart the loading area at the same time then this means the second scene is likely being used, as stated previously you can kindly ask the CM if you can be seated in the second scene, if they are in fact operating that scene then they will normally accommodate the request even if you have to wait a few extra minutes.

This. You will always have the opportunity to do the gangster scene as it will always be going. They are often running both cars in the morning, regardless of crowd levels. Then, towards the afternoon, if the crowd level is low, they will switch to only running one care, the back car, that has the gangster. My advice to you is to look to see if they are loading both cars. If they are, make sure you request the bandit. You will have no way of knowing if that will be an option later on in the trip. Also, from personal experience, if you have the bandit first, you aren't expecting to get hijacked in the gangster scene the second time you ride it so it is a fun surprise (provided, of course, that you don't know about the gangster option already). I just love Great Movie Ride...

Have there been any changes put into effect on the Great Movie Ride since the Turner agreement went into place? Everything I have read says that changes would happen in Spring 2015.

Over the past 3 trips, we rode TGMR numerous times. The first two trips were during slightly slower periods in May and we saw the gangsters every time. Last year we went during Easter break, extremely busy, and finally saw the cowboy version. The last time I saw it was probably Easter break back in 1999.

I've heard that depending on the time of the year, and sometimes the time of the day/attendance, they will not run the Cowboy scene to save on cost (due to the pyrotechnics of the scene). Second to last time my girlfriend and I went (May of 2014) we requested to see the Cowboy version and the cast member has no problem with it. We just waited for the next front car to come around.

As far as if your kids will think it's scary or not, I would be more concerned about the Alien scene than if you get the Gangster/Cowboy car.
