DLRP lists 'donuts' on several menus. As I discovered on my trip to Germany this summer, the overall quality of Berliner has declined dramatically

The bad news? the 'beignets' at DLRP were nothing great. HOWEVER the patisserie chain 'Paul' with locations throughout Paris and also at Val d'Europe makes a doughnut very similar (but not quite as good

They also make a 'tarte au sucre' almost identical to her 'Zuckerkuchen'. And on Dec 6th there were no beignets at Paul as they were busy baking Puhmann for Nikolaus Day! (I missed mine as I was once again travelling that day...)
SO! lesson learned - for anyone looking for very very good and very authentic baking, visit Paul! Just a short train ride away from DLRP and worth stocking up. Paul definitely met up to my German tastebuds.
In his book, Simon also raves about the crepes at the cafe run by Paul in Val d'Europe - I didn't get a chance to try them though.
